Chapter 237: Chapter 218: Hidden Monster
A thousand blood insect warriors charged, each summoning their own Angels to battle, among which more than a dozen possessed Second Order strength.
Their Second-Rank Apostles charged wildly, moving with extre speed, covering three steps in two, and in no ti, they had arrived at the base of the wall.
“Attack!”
Gan Xinglei ordered the Tree Domain warriors defending the city to attack, as a multitude of crossbow arrows poured down like rain, densely hitting the bodies of the Apostles, piercing their flesh with a splat.
After the first wave of attacks, the Apostles suffered heavy casualties, and their Contractors, affected by the repercussions, fell to the ground in pain, their spirits wounded.
However, many of the Apostles wore crude armor plates, or had hard outer shells by nature, which greatly reduced the power of the crossbow arrows.
Although the arrows were still lodged in their bodies, bleeding profusely, their ability to move was not impaired.
“Bang bang bang”
But at that point, the Spiritual Energy rifles joined the fight, with a succession of gunfire ringing out, bullets pounding into the bodies of the monster Apostles, creating fist-sized blood holes.
Just one round of attack felled hundreds of monster Apostles, and the blood insect warriors who had charged closer were also killed.
“Disperse! Disperse and charge!”
Loud shouts ca from the blood insect warriors; the firepower of the guns on the city walls was too strong—these weren’t just rifles, but more like sniper rifles.
When they had made their move against the prison guards, the guards’ weapons weren’t nearly this powerful.
The surviving blood insect warriors imdiately dispersed and began looking for cover. Despite being sniped at like this, they still erupted with an extrely violent will to fight, wanting to quickly reach the base of the wall.
The fastest were those few Second-Rank Apostles. Their massive bodies, agile responses, and tough exteriors gave them greater impact resistance. The difficulty of landing a bullet on them was significant, and in the midst of their repeated dodging, they had already approached the wall.
Even if they were hit by stray bullets, it wasn’t enough to cause fatal damage.
“The firepower is still not strong enough.”
Zhu Xiong showed regret. The rifle fire was undoubtedly trendously threatening to First Order Monsters, as a hit was bound to slow them down or even inflict fatal wounds.
But when it ca to Second Order, that’s when the differences began to show, with speed and impact resistance ability among the factors affecting the containnt effort.
While they could still be injured, the difficulty was much greater. If it weren’t for the defense of the city, by this ti, the Second Order Monsters would have likely made it to their position.
As individual strength started to climb, the effectiveness of re firearms indeed began to wane.
“It’s just not enough of them.”
Ye Kailing stood by, speaking calmly.
“There are only a few hundred guns here now. If there were thousands, tens of thousands, plus machine guns and heavy artillery, then Second Order would be nothing.”
Her eyes were calm. Third Order Monsters had bizarre and powerful abilities and ordinary shelling might not do the trick, but Second Order clearly wasn’t enough.
“Artillery, we still can’t get that thing going. Old Gan, give us a couple rounds.”
Zhu Xiong’s eyebrows lifted as he looked toward Gan Xinglei.
Gan Xinglei rolled his eyes and said, “Quit kidding around; their Apostles are about to break through, and there are those few Third Orders too.”
As they spoke, indeed, led by Jiang Long’s three Apostles as the spearhead, they had broken through part of the vine defense and reached the front of the wall.
The Insect Head Apostle was about six ters tall, although only half as tall as the wall, but the other two blood-colored insect Apostles were a towering seven or eight ters, nearly reaching the wall’s edge.
One of them had blood-colored thin wings on its back, sharp as blades, fluttering with cutting speed that left knife marks on the wall.
Though it was unclear if they could fly, a re leap would surely get them over the wall.
The other Third Order Monster possessed a mouth part like a sledgehamr, shooting out as fast as lightning, the explosive force behind it terrifying.
The restraining vines were smashed in one strike by it, shattering directly. Heaven knew what would happen if that sledgehamr mouth part hit the wall.
Seeing this scene, Zhu Xiong and the others’ expressions darkened, imdiately becoming serious, realizing that ten ters of wall height seed not enough for these giant beasts.
“Leave them to . As for the Second Order, that’s up to you guys.”
Su Han’s voice ca through as he watched the Blood Insect Camp assault the city without hurrying to take action, undoubtedly aning he was contemplating using this as an opportunity to practice, to see how this siege battle should be fought and what was lacking.
His gaze swept over, his mind moved, and the ground rumbled. Five vine snakes imdiately burst out, pouncing on Jiang Long’s Third Order Apostles.
One Apostle, one vine snake, originally at Guanling Mountain they had planned to suppress Su Han’s first vine snake.
Having a three-to-one advantage, the combat power of the three Third Order Apostles was undoubtedly much stronger.
But now the situation had suddenly reversed, falling into a deadlock instead.
The six vine snakes churned, the ground cracked, they cooperated with each other, aided by the vines, engaging in a fearso battle.
The entire frontal battlefield seed to be under their control, with their massive bodies allowing them to dominate the situation, despite their limited skills.
“Damn it!”
Jiang Long and Guanling Mountain’s expressions abruptly changed, how could there suddenly be such monsters coming out of nowhere.
Didn’t they say there was only one Third Order in the Tree Domain?
“Jiang Long, coordinate in combat, take out these Vine Snakes first, this is surely that ancient tree’s doing.”
Guanling Mountain’s heart sank, his gaze filled with ferocity. Although the tide had turned slightly in their favor, it didn’t an they were bound to lose. The Vine Snakes might be enormous, but they weren’t without weaknesses.
“Attack the places where they’re connected.”
The Vine Snakes were connected through their roots and vines, making the part of them that protruded from the ground extrely flexible. However, the connecting points coming out of the ground were not so easily avoided.
With their plan set in their minds, the two imdiately directed their Apostles to attack the connecting spots, sending crimson beams of energy crashing down, severing a large number of vines.
The four-ard insect beast charged forward furiously, its scythe-like limbs swinging in an attempt to chop off the heads of the snakes.
Su Han watched with a cold laugh. Those two really had so ruthlessness in them, and their Apostles weren’t weak either.
However, there were nine snake heads, and the Scorpion Spider Demon and the Blood-winged Alligator Dragon hadn’t even made a move yet.
He was about to summon the remaining three snake heads to flank from front and back, sealing off the entire battlefield, and then deal with the Blood Insect Camp proper.
But at this mont, Bai Qilan’s voice suddenly echoed in his consciousness, “Su Han, don’t go all out just yet. There seems to be another one.”
She reached out to grab Su Han’s hand. In an instant, their perceptions intertwined, revealing the eerie Spiritual World where, beneath the city wall and many buildings, vague traces of Spiritual Energy could be seen moving underground, converging into the shape of a monster.
Its presence was elusive, constantly skirting the edge of the battlefield, at a distance neither too far nor too close, but definitely capable of escaping.
Exiting the Spiritual World, Su Han’s eyes imdiately took on a subtle shift. The action of summoning the snake heads stopped, and his attitude beca nuanced.
So there’s one hiding, fine then, let’s play. This is a good opportunity to perform a piece, also giving the Second-Tier Blood Insect Warriors a chance.
The fury of the Third Order Monster’s battle continued while, on the other side, after losing a large number of First-Tier Apostles and First Order Monsters, the Second-Rank Apostles, with their agile bodies and strong strength, rapidly climbed to the top of the wall.
They were extrely fast. Except for two or three unfortunate ones who were too slow and were gunned down by rifles, the rest reached the wall undetected, spreading out along a length of two to three hundred ters of the wall.
The pressure on the defenders instantly doubled, and so warriors almost got swept away due to their complacency.
Fortunately, Zhu Xiong and the others were already prepared for battle.
A blood-red monster, resembling a huge-clawed gecko, had just reached the wall when Zhu Xiong struck it with a heavy blow from his shield.
The Spiritual Energy shield in his hand, as large as a car door, was solid with energy. A single blow resulted in the sound of broken bones.
Gan Xinglei was even quicker to focus his thoughts, raising his hand to shoot a Spiritual Energy bullet, as large as a human head and as fast as a bullet.
The impact exploded upon contact, tearing apart the flesh of the Second-Rank Apostle.
With the two leading, the Second Order team captains and deputy team captains on Su Han’s side all ‘ferociously’ rushed into action.
Battle was not only a responsibility but also an opportunity to earn contributions.
The Blood Insect Warriors, thinking they would take the city wall, were stupefied. Their ten-plus Second-order Contractors and about twenty Apostles still couldn’t seize control of the wall.
Atop the wall, it seed like there were even more Second Order individuals than them. What was going on here?
If they couldn’t take the wall and pose a threat to the Contractors, then all the Blood Insect Warriors would be dragged to their deaths here.
“Roar”
Jiang Long’s eyes turned cold, blood-red as if bleeding, his gaze dreadful.
Then he was seen expanding in size, his muscles bulging as he transford into a small giant over two ters tall.
Aside from tearing his clothes to reveal a crimson body, there wasn’t much change in his appearance. Bulging muscles contained an unidentified substance wriggling beneath the skin, emitting a faint red light that was eerie and unsettling.
At that mont, he leaped onto one of the Vine Snake heads, striking it viciously.
A red light accompanied his punch as it descended, causing the head’s vines to snap, inflicting a heavy blow.
“Everyone, Frenzied Blood now!”
The raspy voice spread to every corner of the battlefield. Guanling Mountain’s face shifted slightly. Still, in the next mont, he too stimulated the Enhanced Blood Insect within his body.
A surge of Energy caused an enraged roar to ring out. Guanling Mountain also transford into a similar state, his voice coldly erging from deep within his throat, “You’re forcing my hand.”
The state induced by the Enhanced Blood Insect undoubtedly increased their combat ability dramatically, even making them not much weaker than the Apostles.
But the greater the power, the greater the cost.
If they couldn’t replenish enough high-quality blood food this ti, the food used to sustain the Enhanced Blood Insects would have to co from their own bodies.
Spiritual Energy, ntal power, blood—all might be drained significantly.
Guanling Mountain leaped forward, attacking another Vine Snake and crushing nurous vines.
The battlefield erupted with roars, and Su Han’s eyes sharpened with cold amusent, “Perfect.”
With a thought, a dark shadow suddenly shot across the sky, plunging swiftly onto the battlefield. It turned out to be the Third Order Interdiate Blood-winged Alligator Dragon.
