Chapter 193: Chapter 184 Preparing for Battle
“`
Su Han looked at Ye Kailing in surprise. “Are you sure?”
“Yes.”
Ye Kailing nodded affirmatively. “Qilan redid the tests, and the toxin levels are indeed very high; it couldn’t possibly be from a Second Order monster. Moreover, Qilan says that such a situation is not improbable in Lisu County. Geographically, they are already in a mountainous suburb, and there isn’t a stronger tribe to suppress them.”
The small county town didn’t have a large population, perhaps just several hundred thousand, with perhaps only around three hundred thousand as permanent residents.
But… that’s just the human population. If you include the various animals in the vicinity, their numbers would far exceed those in the city.
In South City, whether it’s the South City Camp or the Tree Domain, powerful gathering places would sweep their surrounding environnt clear of monsters, thereby forming a competitive ecology.
The more concentrated the humans are, the stronger their strength, the more the nearby monsters would be suppressed.
Just like Su Han, who was based in the northern district of the city, but upon learning of a Third Order monster in the eastern district, ca directly to raid them – the sa principle applies.
Monsters and humans naturally compete for ecological niches.
However, the situation is much graver in Lisu County.
If there isn’t soone with decent talent who can quickly unite all strengths and stand out, as ti passes…
The unchecked monsters, in the wake of repeated Psychic Tides, surging mists, and the possible descent of fissures from other dinsions, would beco increasingly stronger.
Eventually, it is highly possible that higher-level monsters would be bred, completely disrupting the balance and leading the county to fall.
“Lock down the information, and then prepare for battle.”
Su Han pondered for a mont, his eyes intent as he spoke, “Keep the information confined to the upper echelons, have the search teams, patrol teams, and reservists intensify their training, and hasten the increase of our strength. As for the matters here… I’m going back today. You go and call for Zhu Junhua and Bai Yaolong, and take them back with you.”
“Yes.”
Ye Kailing turned and strode towards Zhu Junhua, who was outside the square.
“Mr. Zhu, the leader wants to see you, and Bai Yaolong as well.”
Zhu Junhua had been pretending to deal with the corpses of monsters, but most of the corpses had been fused by Su Han’s three Angel Envoys, so his act was far from convincing.
Still, when the leader calls, one finds an excuse to leave swiftly – this much he understood.
Stirred by Ye Kailing’s voice, he hurriedly replied, “Alright, I’ll be right there.”
He called Bai Yaolong over, but his heart was filled with trepidation, wondering why the leader would suddenly summon him.
‘Could it be that the situation is quite serious?’
Although he had only heard snippets of conversation, he realized that the world outside South City in this post-apocalyptic era seed to be in even worse shape.
Once the three of them were gathered, Zhu Junhua asked, “Are we going to take any action?”
“You’ll co back with , get acquainted with the main camp. I’ll have soone brief you on what cos next,” Su Han replied succinctly and then the Blood-winged Alligator Dragon had already flown over, landing in the square.
“Everyone get on.”
He signaled for everyone to board, as the Mother Nest Ancient Tree and the Scorpion Spider Demon had already been taken back into the Book of Blood Spirit.
The wings of the Blood-winged Alligator Dragon beat powerfully, grasping the Giant Rock Ghoul from the square, and with a surge of its wings, the creature quickly navigated through the mist, the whooshing of wind slicing past their ears, the white expanse of the fog eerily terrifying.
Su Han had been preparing to return to the camp, and the ergency undoubtedly hastened his pace.
Lisu County was dozens of kiloters away from South City, a distance he believed the monsters would likely not attack over in the short term.
But the event rang alarm bells for Su Han – if one Lisu County could end up like this, how many others might have already fallen? There could be a second, a third, or even more places that had already succumbed without a single survivor escaping.
South City might not have many enemies within, but outside South City, there may well be more than one terrifying existence.
Preparation for an ergency was a necessity, which ant certain arrangents had to be moved up the schedule.
Less than twenty minutes later, the Tree Domain Camp ca into view. Nearly every other segnt of the camp was outfitted with Ancient Tree Crystals, the mist dispersed outside the entire camp, and despite the Mother Nest Ancient Tree’s absence, it was brightly lit as if with lamplight.
The walls were towering, with people coming and going, debris on the roads largely cleared away, and goods and crops being managed in an orderly manner, faintly displaying the order of the pre-apocalyptic world.
Although they only got a distant glance from the sky, Zhu Junhua and Bai Yaolong felt as if they had entered a haven like Peach Blossom Spring, utterly incredulous.
This, after all, was the post-apocalypse.
They themselves were running a sizable Survivors’ Camp, with over a thousand people taking over a stadium.
The more people there were, the more complex it got, and the myriad of issues beca harder to manage.
“`
Just being alive was already a luxury, let alone thinking of restoring any kind of order.
But, the Tree Domain Camp was an entirely different story.
“Whoosh”
With the flapping of wings, the Blood-winged Alligator Dragon landed, causing the surrounding guards and residents to light up with joy at the sight of it.
“Leader!”
They shouted in greeting, and Su Han nodded, descending with Ye Kailing, Zhu Junhua, and the others.
“Kailing, take them to Old Zhu and inform him of the situation, then coordinate with iyu. Their camp is equally important,” Su Han instructed.
“Understood.”
On the way, Ye Kailing had co to know that Zhu Junhua and the others were from a Survivors’ Camp that Su Han had subdued in the eastern district of the city.
The spatial rifts and distance in the eastern district made it difficult to integrate all the people from the camp at once.
But that didn’t an it was impossible in the future.
Ye Kailing led the people away, and Su Han imdiately went to find Bai Qilan.
Inside Villa Number Nine, it wasn’t just Bai Qilan working, Bai Shan and Cao Yubao were also deep in research.
The sound of Su Han’s footsteps imdiately drew their attention. Seeing that it was Su Han, they unanimously stopped their work.
“How’s the situation?”
Cao Yubao sighed, “There are 30 people poisoned, and for now, only two with lighter wounds and stronger abilities have survived. The others were eroded by the toxin, and their internal organs collapsed.”
He could see that those poisoned were not directly exposed to the poison fog. More accurately speaking, they weren’t the real targets of the fog at all.
It’s likely they were only touched by the fog that had diffused outwards.
Their wounds were not severe, but as Contractors, the ease with which they died was concerning.
This was his first encounter with toxins of such terrifying potency.
Bai Qilan took off her gloves, washed her hands clean, removed her mask, and said, “I compared the toxin. In comparison to the Mother Nest Ancient Tree’s Paralytic Toxin and the Rotpoison Ratman’s Rot Poison, the unknown toxin’s potency is higher. In erosion experints done with monster blood, Second Order creatures find it almost impossible to resist. Among Third Order creatures, the Mother Nest Ancient Tree has the highest resistance, followed by the Scorpion Spider Demon, and finally the Blood-winged Alligator Dragon. Although they can resist, they each suffer different degrees of erosion.”
Bai Shan added, “From the perspective of spiritual energy structure, this toxin also contains a high level of spiritual energy.”
All three conveyed the sa ssage: the toxin was of high grade, and the monster was of even higher grade.
“Can we speculate about the type of monster?”
“Not for the mont,”
Bai Qilan shook her head, “We don’t have much data for comparison, and finding the prototype is too difficult. Moreover, it might not even be an earth-native creature.”
“I don’t recomnd that you hunt this monster. We know too little information about it,”
She thought Su Han intended to hunt the creature and thus, she spoke up to dissuade him.
Su Han paused for a mont before replying, “I have no such plans for now, but we need to be cautious on our side. We must prioritize human body enhancers. If it’s impossible to produce them right away, then we need to step up on dical resource preparation and the provision of injections. I’m worried that monsters outside the city might covet the people inside.”
Hearing Su Han’s words, all three turned solemn, understanding the implications of his statent as they were all highly intelligent.
“I understand.”
………
The research lab wasn’t able to provide much of value, so Su Han took so of the toxin material himself, hoping to extract valuable information through his Fusion Ability.
However, no useful information popped up. He didn’t know if it was because the material was too sparse or because it had been contaminated or altered from being extracted from wounds.
Unable to identify anything through Fusion Ability, Su Han had to focus his efforts on the camp.
After Yan iyu and Zhu Xiong had coordinated with Zhu Junhua, they dispatched a team of two hundred to carry supplies as an advance party responsible for setting up the pharmaceutical factory camp.
Rashly covering such a distance, with the potential for monster attacks along the way, was not easy to deal with.
Su Han directly sent the Scorpion Spider Demon with the team to ensure complete safety.
Zhu Xiong led the team there, entrusted not only with stabilizing the pharmaceutical factory but also with transporting a batch of dical supplies back, and establishing a direct subway link from the factory to here.
The fact that the Scorpion Spider Demon accompanied them was also due to its ability to control tal, aiming to seal temporary unneeded subway tunnels and keep only the safe direct tunnels open.
In the camp, Su Han also began making corresponding arrangents.
