Chapter 408: Chapter 408: Peace Talks?
"Pass
the telescope."
Standing atop the precipice, Cheng Wen gazed into the distance, reaching out until Kong Ji handed him the Demon Race’s custom-built telescope.
The command center had arrived at the frontline because they knew what lay ahead was the toughest battle since entering the Secret Realm Battlefield.
Once this battle concluded, it would mark the late stages of the Secret Realm Battlefield, and the amount they achieved would depend on how well they fought this battle.
He mobilized everyone to the south, except for Li Rui and Cheng Mingyue from Group 01.
"If they continue to advance, we must engage them here."
All observing the terrain here were top-level command personnel who had received the relevant intelligence and Chen Cheng’s prediction, knowing that the two other countries had joined forces.
This was not only a test for the main line of the Extraordinaries but also a challenge for them.
In previous Secret Realm Battlefields, there had never been a case where two of the three major nations allied, but this ti was different. The Western Kingdom was stunned by a series of losses and chose to submit.
Facing such an unprecedented situation, after two consecutive days of research and discussion, the command center decided they couldn’t keep retreating and let the other two nations boost their morale. They must create an effective block to prevent their losses from expanding.
The command tier, including Kong Ji, knew that doing so was to halt the enemy’s montum.
"Oh gosh, these people just can’t stay put. The Western Kingdom is clearly defeated; why not just retreat quietly to the highlands?"
The bearded man complained helplessly, as typically, the side with significant losses would voluntarily shrink their area of influence, and the other sides wouldn’t pursue.
After all, the Secret Realm Battlefield is massive; no one could possibly claim all the spoils for themselves, and there had never been a situation of utter annihilation.
Kong Ji chuckled, "That’s because Simon is dead, and Ulysses can’t pull it off. If they were to retreat shafully, he’d likely be exiled to a city bureau until retirent."
"You sure enjoy the drama," the bearded man shook his head.
"Enough chit-chat,"
Cheng Wen cut off their conversation, "We’re weaker than the other side, especially in Li Rui’s absence. Quickly co up with a plan; we must win, and not just barely."
"My dear Brother Cheng, you’re making it difficult. The gap in hard power, Western Kingdom is battered but not yet broken. How can we fight one against two? I still think the ho swap strategy we suggested yesterday is better."
"Here we go again. Now we’re talking about blocking, so let’s discuss blocking."
While a few of them were still arguing about unresolved differences, the professional communicator Duan Ling ca running up.
"Report, Polar Alliance has sent an envoy wanting to see Director Cheng."
"See ?"
Cheng Wen was a bit puzzled. With the battle on the verge of starting, why would soone visit now? There’s no tradition of delivering war declarations in the Secret Realm Battlefield.
"Tell him to wait."
Cheng Wen didn’t want the envoy at this observation point, opting instead to go down himself. Although curious, he knew such anomalies surely had their reasons.
"I’ll go with you; what if he’s a suicidal assassin?"
Kong Ji decided wisely to accompany him down the mountain.
Discussing the envoy’s purpose all the way, soon they reached the bottom of the hill, threading through layers of positions to the forefront.
"Are you Charles Brown?"
As Cheng Wen approached, he forcefully called out the man’s na, using the Dragon Country’s language, "I’ve seen you in the Chaos Zone. So, what’s your business here now? Surely not a peace talk?"
The envoy didn’t switch to Western Extre Language, instead maintaining their dialogue in Dragon Country’s tongue.
"Respected Mr. Cheng, indeed it is, because...a new situation has arisen, which none of us anticipated."
His tone was very polite, not showing any animosity.
"Go on, what’s the situation?"
None of the three found a place to sit; they stood right there in the frontline position, with Demon Race mbers hustling around, preparing for battle.
Charles Brown said, "An island has been approached by a world NPC."
"Hmm?"
Kong Ji and Cheng Wen exchanged glances.
World NPCs can intrude into any Secret Realm, including Secret Realm Battlefields. In the past, with higher level caps, there was no fear, as there were top honchos among the Secret Realm agents, too.
Low-level encounters with a world NPC ant almost certain death, but those at sixty to seventy levels feared nothing.
This year’s battlefield had a unique aspect: the level cap was only 50. If a world NPC was highly skilled, it could indeed be troubleso.
But the problem is...
"You said ’one’, Mr. Brown, are you sure you understand the aning of this Dragon Country word correctly?" Cheng Wen asked.
Even with the level cap at 50, an ordinary world NPC like the Demon Race’s Barbarian Monarch or a non-top-notch Extraordinary like Wei Xun, could be taken down by a few top masters ganging up. Even if Zuo Qiutian ca, unless he was ready with so bloody array in advance, he couldn’t possibly single-handedly oppose hundreds of Secret Realm agents, plus tens of thousands of Demon Race mbers.
That’s why Cheng Wen found it odd: If one cos, it cos. Just surround and kill them; who knows, they might even drop gold coins. Why bother to co specifically to tell
this?
"Of course, I didn’t misunderstand. A man with an Eastern Continent face, wielding two short knives."
Charles had anticipated their puzzlent, "I wonder if either of you has any intelligence on such a person?"
His grammar was slightly flawed, but understandable enough. Cheng Wen stayed silent while Kong Ji asked, "So? You can’t handle him?"
Charles’s expression grew tense, "He’s formidable, a very unsettling assassin. He’s hard to track down, always appearing suddenly, killing, then using earth magic to escape; we can’t stop him."
Cheng Wen asked, "Is it serious enough to warrant peace talks with us?"
"Absolutely, I’ve been authorized by Archbishop Leslie and Commander Ulysses. They think this is the most urgent crisis," Charles replied.
"You don’t seem to carry an ’urgent’ aura," Kong Ji muttered softly.
"Haha, pardon , that’s just my personality. But I can directly tell you, that world NPC appeared just 48 hours ago, and so far, West Country’s Hopkins, Langdel, the church’s Bishop Taylor, Mansion Lord Jones have all been killed."
Simply speaking of ergencies might not be convincing, but when disclosing already lost targets, it clearly showed sincerity.
He listed several nas, each of them high-risk Extraordinaries recognizable by Cheng Wen. If what the envoy said was true, with these individuals dead, undoubtedly more casualties had occurred; only without particularly famous masters, ntioning them here was unnecessary.
"Mr. Brown, please wait here; we need to discuss." Cheng Wen said.
Charles nodded, "Of course, this was too sudden; I can understand your concerns, but still, I must say, best...hurry."
At this mont, his expression turned grave, "If all of our people die, you’ll face the sa fate."
