Xie Jia glanced at her, eting the suited man’s curious gaze, his face still expressionless.

"The doctor said my mom has high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, coronary heart disease, chronic kidney failure... she can’t eat anything with oil or salt."

Xie Jia swept his eyes over the whole table full of rich, greasy dishes, then looked at the big bucket of white rice sitting beside them.

She added, "She can’t eat rice or noodles either. Since their ingredients contain sugar too."

Alright, that was a very thorough and reasonable excuse.

The suited man had no choice but to shift his gaze away from Wang Hui and look at the last person — Wan Qian.

"Is the food not to your taste? Why aren’t you eating?"

The suited man’s voice could barely maintain its earlier polite enthusiasm; there was now an unmistakable trace of force behind it.

Wan Qian touched her stomach and looked at the table full of food, feeling a bit of regret.

It wasn’t that she didn’t want to eat — she simply wasn’t hungry at all.

Her stomach was still warm, as if she had just eaten ten minutes ago. Her whole body was filled with a sense of satisfaction and comfort.

Wan Qian could only reply apologetically to the suited man, "It’s not that the food isn’t good. I’m just really not hungry tonight."

The suited man was about to say sothing when Wan Qian suddenly thought of an idea.

Such a lavish spread — wouldn’t it be a pity if no one ate it?

Granny Zhang was still lying in the clinic and couldn’t co over for dinner tonight — why not pack so up for her?

Wan Qian looked up at the suited man with a shy expression.

"Um... even though we’re not hungry now, who knows if I’ll get hungry later tonight. Could I pack so of the food to go?"

The suited man was taken aback. Very quickly, however, his face broke into another warm smile.

Whether they ate it here or took it to go, the result would be the sa as long as Wan Qian eventually ate the food.

So, he imdiately fetched two plastic food boxes and handed them to Wan Qian.

Unexpectedly, Wan Qian stared at the boxes and frowned slightly in dissatisfaction.

"Um... do you have a clean thermal container or sothing?"

Since the food was for the patient in the hospital, it was better to bring it while still hot. If she brought cold food, Granny Zhang’s illness might get worse from eating it.

"Hey, you’re really..." picky, huh?

The suited man started to speak, but halfway through he pursed his lips and swallowed the rest of his words.

Forget it — after all, tomorrow these outsiders would beco the sacrificial offerings for the Dog God.

The suited man reluctantly pulled out a thermal container for Wan Qian.

He watched as Wan Qian filled it up with portions of rice and dishes from the table.

Once the villagers had finished eating and begun to disperse, Wan Qian carried the now-full thermal container toward the clinic.

Inside the clinic, the lights were still on.

Wan Qian pushed open the door, intending to greet Doctor Jiang in his office. However, when she opened the door, Doctor Jiang wasn’t inside.

Instead, on Doctor Jiang’s desk, there were a few small plates of food that looked untouched.

Wan Qian couldn’t help but recall that she hadn’t seen Doctor Jiang at dinner tonight either.

He was probably so dedicated that he stayed busy in the clinic even at dinner ti.

He didn’t even have ti to eat with everyone, so he could only have a quick bite alone in his office.

Wan Qian looked closely at the food on the desk. Though there was fish and at, compared to the feast she had packed, it was far too simple — nowhere near the sa level.

Sigh. Such a kind, gentle, and ethical doctor deserved to eat well.

Wan Qian thought this and opened her thermal container, picking out so food and placing it onto Doctor Jiang’s plates.

When she packed it earlier, she had chosen the best pieces on purpose:

Like the duck leg from the roast duck, the chicken wing from the stewed chicken, the pork knuckle from the roasted piglet... even the peanuts were the crispiest, most fragrant ones.

With these added, the dishes on Doctor Jiang’s desk suddenly looked much more plentiful.

Wan Qian nodded in satisfaction. This was the treatnt an angel in a white coat deserved.

After screwing the thermal container shut again, Wan Qian left the office.

Having done her good deed quietly, she carried the thermal container into Granny Zhang’s hospital room.

Granny Zhang lay in bed with her eyes open, pupils dull and lifeless as they stared at the ceiling.

Even when Wan Qian walked up and sat at her bedside, Granny Zhang didn’t react at all.

"Granny, I ca to see you, and I brought you so food," Wan Qian said warmly, taking out the thermal container and waving it in front of Granny Zhang’s eyes.

Granny Zhang stared blankly, her eyes vacant, her lips not moving at all.

Wan Qian didn’t mind. She simply opened the lid of the thermal container.

As soon as she lifted the lid, the aroma of food filled the entire hospital room.

Finally, there was a reaction from Granny Zhang. Her eyes shifted slightly, as if trying to see what was inside the container.

Wan Qian took out the food layer by layer. Then she set up the small table over the hospital bed and laid out the dishes neatly.

"Granny, the food in the village tonight was really good, so I brought so just for you."

Wan Qian looked at Granny Zhang with a big smile, her tone warm and enthusiastic.

"You haven’t eaten yet, right? Let help you sit up and have so."

As she spoke, she thoughtfully grabbed two pillows from the other bed and propped Granny Zhang up with them.

Granny Zhang leaned against the pillows, her eyes fixed on the food.

Slowly, a layer of fear spread in her eyes, and her body began to tremble ever so slightly.

But her limbs had long since been replaced — only her torso remained. She had no way to escape, even if she wanted to.

Wan Qian knew Granny Zhang’s arm was also injured and carefully bandaged by the doctor, so she probably couldn’t use it now.

So Wan Qian picked up a bowl from the table, held a pair of chopsticks, picked up a piece of chicken, and brought it to Granny Zhang’s mouth.

"Granny, let feed you. Ah—"
