91: Chapter 91 Building Chief 91: Chapter 91 Building Chief Hearing about the crying encounter, Han Fei was very distressed.

However, beyond his sorrow, Han Fei was even more curious about what exactly Cry had seen that day.

As he patiently questioned him, Cry gesticulated wildly with his hands, and eventually, he broke down in tears.

“Don’t cry, don’t cry, I’m not trying to rub salt in your wound, I just really want to know what’s on the Ninth Floor.

In fact, I’m planning to visit the Ninth Floor tonight myself.”

Upon hearing that Han Fei was also going to the Ninth Floor, Cry’s flailing arms slowly ca to a stop, and he stared at Han Fei for a long ti before writing four words on the palm of Han Fei’s hand—rember yourself.

“Rember myself?”

Han Fei wanted to ask more questions, but Cry disappeared into the Spiritual Altar as if avoiding a plague.

“This kid…

isn’t he a bit too standoffish?”

Not leaving room 1034, Han Fei sat amidst a pile of Talisman Paper and Papern, engaged in a fierce internal debate.

“The last two pieces of the Human-body Puzzle for the F-level mission are on the Ninth Floor.

If I can’t find them tonight, I’ll fail the mission, and all my efforts will have been in vain.”

“I want to save my roommates, and I need to complete their bodies.

I want to uncover the secrets hidden on the Tenth Floor, which also requires passing through the Ninth Floor—aning I will have to go there sooner or later.”

Han Fei knew the Ninth Floor was dangerous, but he didn’t want to give up on the F-level mission.

He pondered until three in the morning and, when the Ga Exit Key lit up, Han Fei finally made up his mind.

“First, take a look at the Ninth Floor, and if it’s really dangerous, I’ll run to Ying Yue’s for refuge.

If all else fails, I’ll log off.”

With the F-level Human-body Puzzle mission entering its final countdown, Han Fei left room 1034 and made his way upwards, preparing to attempt a visit to the Ninth Floor.

The eerie footsteps did not sound, and Han Fei reached the Eighth Floor without any trouble.

He first went to greet Ying Yue and unlocked her security door.

If he ran into danger later, he could skip the step of opening the door and head straight inside for safety.

After taking these precautions, Han Fei did not continue upward; he crouched by the stairway railing and peered up through the gaps between the railings to the floors above.

The Ninth and Tenth Floors appeared completely normal, seemingly even safer than the other floors, just like an ordinary, aged residential building.

The more normal and unexceptional they seed, the more uneasy Han Fei felt; he didn’t know where the Fierce Ghost might appear, and he couldn’t concentrate on any particular spot even if he wanted to.

Gripping the railing, Han Fei multitasked, keeping an eye on his surroundings while focusing intently on the Ga Exit Key.

“Let’s go up and have a look.”

Stepping onto the staircase leading to the Ninth Floor, Han Fei did not notice anything amiss; the stairs were just ordinary stairs, there was no strange odor in the air, and he heard no odd sounds.

Feeling no signs of danger, Han Fei reached the middle between the Eighth and Ninth Floors, the spot where Cry had severed his own arms.

Standing at the turn between the two floors, Han Fei looked up at the four doors of the Ninth Floor.

The security doors were ordinary; aside from the room numbers, there was nothing on the door panels.

He took two more steps up and then noticed sothing strange.

At the entrance to Room 1091 sat a brazier, within which lay half-burned Paper Money.

Beside the brazier was a black photo fra, inside was a black and white Mourning Photograph without a face.

“Sothing doesn’t feel quite right,” he mumbled.

The faceless black and white Mourning Photograph gave Han Fei a chilling sensation, and only after taking a closer look did he suddenly realize that the clothes worn by the person in the photograph were identical to his own!

His legs involuntarily tried to step back, but when Han Fei turned around, he discovered that the staircase from which he ca had disappeared, leaving only suffocating darkness behind him.

“Player number 0000, please take note!

You have found all the Relics of the Building Chief, fulfilling the conditions to successfully trigger a Level F Manager task—Building Chief!”

“Building Chief (Level F Manager Task): The basic duty of the Building Chief is to understand and master the basic situations of residents in the building, eliminate various security risks, coordinate family and neighborhood disputes, actively resolve conflicts, provide support to disadvantaged groups, and kill all those who wish to beco the Building Chief.”

“Attention!

Due to the player’s Level being too far apart from the task, additional task tips are provided!”

“In every building in this world, there exists the most cunning, most cruel, most insane, most terrifying entity, referred to as the Manager by so residents.

Now, there are only two paths before you: either be killed by him or beco him.”

“Attention!

Every Manager task is based on the mories and past of the previous Manager.

You will enter the mory of the Manager.

Dying here does not carry the penalty of death, however, with each death, you will lose part of your own mories.”

“Attention!

If during the task, you forget who you are, then you will be trapped forever within the Manager task.

You will beco part of the mory of the previous Manager, and through your shell, it will be reborn!”

The sudden voice in Han Fei’s Brain Sea left him stunned in place: “A Level F Manager task?

Level F tasks are much harder than Level G tasks, and Manager tasks seem to be a lot harder than regular tasks too.

With both combined, how difficult would that be?”

The way back had been swallowed by darkness, the staircase completely vanished, and as Han Fei tried walking into the dark, his Life Value would rapidly decrease.

Now he finally understood why those who went up to the ninth floor never went down again—there was simply no way down!

With no path to retreat, Han Fei had no choice but to head to the ninth floor, where he encountered sothing even more terrifying.

Turning his head to look upstairs, he saw a wall, as if the building had no tenth floor and the ninth were the topmost.

“The task tips say that every Manager task is based on the mory of the previous Manager.

Does that an I might have been pulled into the Manager’s mory?

And that I must gain the approval of the previous Manager to complete the task?”

Taking a deep breath, Han Fei intended to organize his thoughts when he opened his Attribute Panel, but what he saw made it impossible to remain calm.

Next to his character’s na, a new line of text had appeared—The player is in an abnormal state and temporarily unable to exit the ga.

“Unable to exit?!”

Han Fei was acutely aware of what these words ant—if he couldn’t complete this Level F task, he might be trapped here forever!

Anxiety and unease consud Han Fei, and it took a long ti for him to calm down.

He squatted at the entrance of Room 1091, where the person in the Mourning Photograph now completely resembled him.

“It doesn’t matter, as long as I complete the task, I can leave.

I should be able to do that,” Han Fei stared at his own Mourning Photograph, where he was smiling happily—a smile he himself hadn’t shown for a long ti.

“In the Deep World, regular tasks have the lowest difficulty, followed by hidden tasks, and then Manager tasks.

Once you accept a Manager task, you enter a special state, and it seems Manager tasks are the most core tasks in the entire task system of the Deep World!”

“If I can complete such a task, I would be able to understand more about the Deep World.”

Everything has its pros and cons, and Han Fei was not simply despondent; he knew that risk was synonymous with reward.
