608: Chapter 608: The Elevator That Doesn’t Lie 608: Chapter 608: The Elevator That Doesn’t Lie Picking up the security guard’s patrol diary, several actors opened it.
“January 1st, midnight, I’m really curious why this abandoned building still needs a security guard?
I’ve heard that the previous guards either t with accidents or were scared out of their wits, but I don’t know if that’s true or not.”
“January 4th, midnight, being on duty at the hospital is even more boring than I imagined, staying alone in this ghostly place without any friends to talk to.
The network signal is also terrible, even watching a virtual idol’s livestream buffers, and I don’t know how long I can hold out.”
“January 31st, midnight, finally the first month is almost over, just got a call from the boss, four tis the salary for the whole month, damn, I’m hyped about this job, I was born for this!”
“February 4th, night, a new colleague arrived today, but I haven’t heard from the leadership that anyone else was coming.
Well, as long as my salary isn’t cut, it doesn’t matter how many people co.”
“February 9th, night, the new colleague is so weird, always muttering sothing and never slacking off, patrolling five tis a night, is he trying to kill with overwork?”
“February 14th, night, I keep feeling like the new colleague is always staring at from behind, is that his gaze?
Lots of strange things happening lately, there always seems to be noises coming from deep within the abandoned hospital.”
“February 24th, 2 a.m., the new colleague didn’t co back after the fourth patrol, and I can’t get through to the boss’s phone, the signal is completely cut off.
I’m going in now to check, if I don’t co back, I hope whoever finds this diary can go into the room next to the security office, where I’ve hidden so of the information I’ve collected.”
“February 24th, around 4 a.m., I found the new colleague with an injured leg in the elevator car, he said soone rode the broken elevator to go upstairs, and also said that person had no shadow, wherever he went, all the lights would go out.
Dammit!
I wasn’t scared when I was alone!”
“February 28th, 8 a.m., I’ve finally made it through another month!
I’m a bit tempted to resign, but the boss pays so much, it’s troubling.”
“March 1st, not only did the boss give four tis the salary, but he also gave a bonus, but why do I always feel sothing off about the way the boss talks?
I’m a bit uneasy about taking this money.”
“March 29th, the month is almost over again, I can’t keep doing this, I have to leave!”
“March 29th, 6 p.m., as it was getting dark, a downpour started, and four n and four won ca to the hospital to take shelter from the rain.
They all look like big TV stars, the n handso and the won beautiful, but two of the won look very similar, are they twins?”
“March 29th, 6:30 p.m., I’m really panicking now!
The rain is getting heavier, and before the signal was completely lost, I received a ssage from the boss.”
“He said it’s too dangerous for to stay in the hospital alone and decided to find another security guard to accompany .
That person will be coming up the mountain tonight, the boss wants to go and et him!”
“If the security guard arranged by the boss only ca up the mountain tonight, then who was the guard who worked the night shift with last month?
Where did he co from!”
“March 29th, 7 p.m., that guy pretending to be a security guard disappeared!
The power in the abandoned hospital’s security office has also been cut off!
Did he do this?”
“March 29th, 7:30 p.m., there’s sothing off about those eight people who ca to take shelter from the rain!
They…”
The following pages in the diary were torn out, and these were all the contents on it.
“This guy sure is chatty.” After flipping through the diary, Xiao Chen turned to look at Han Fei, as if waiting for the class representative who’s usually poor at summarizing to speak.
“Our variety show is called ‘April 4th Secret Dossier,’ but in the diary, on March 29th, the security guard ntioned that four n and four won ca to take shelter from the rain at the hospital, which suggests that we might have already been here last month.” Han Fei looked at the others: “Does your script ntion anything about last month?”
“No, this is our first ti going on an outing.”
“That ans we truly have forgotten so things.
Last month we had been here, and at that ti Number Eight Woman was still alive.
But now she’s dead, and her face in the photo has beco blurred, as if soone deliberately rubbed it off repeatedly.” Han Fei stretched out his hand towards the other actors, “According to the normal plot, it’s very likely that the seven of us killed her.
We all participated, maybe you did the deed, maybe he dismbered the body.”
“Please, can you not talk about it in such a chilling way?” Xiao Chen felt that Han Fei’s voice was subdued and icy cold, as if he really had done those things.
“Going by what you’re saying, if we killed soone, why would we bother coming back here?” Li Huang also felt there was so sense in what Han Fei said, and her impression of him was slowly changing.
“I got it!
Maybe it’s precisely because we did sothing very cruel to Number Eight, which triggered us, causing us to lose so of our mories of her.
It’s also possible that everyone tacitly agreed not to ntion that na!” Wu Li spoke up.
“I, on the other hand, feel like the Number Eight Woman has beco a Fierce Ghost.
Because we killed her, she used supernatural ans to erase our mories and then gathered us back here, prepared to kill us all!” Alin’s voice beca sharp.
She never thought her first variety show would be this thrilling.
“Everything you’re saying makes sense, but there’s another possibility.” A cold smile appeared on Han Fei’s face, “March has thirty-one days, we first ca to the hospital on March twenty-ninth.
This variety show is called ‘April Fourth Mystery Files,’ telling the story that happened on April Fourth.”
“What does that prove?” Bai Cha frowned.
He really didn’t like Han Fei but held back because they were being fild by hidden caras.
“From March twenty-ninth to April Fourth is exactly seven days.
The first seventh days after death is when the soul returns.” Han Fei caressed the torn place on the diary, “Another possibility is that Number Eight is still alive, and the ones who are dead are the seven of us.”
“You really can spout nonsense.
If we’re all ghosts, then what’s the point of filming?”
“Have you forgotten the look on the short security guard’s face when he saw Xia Yilan?” Han Fei stood at the farthest distance from Xia Yilan.
“Right!
At that mont, the short security guard looked as if he had seen a ghost and quickly ran towards the depths of the hospital!” Wu Li recalled that scene.
“Perhaps he saw the corpse of Xia Yilan before, perhaps Xia Yilan was killed by him, perhaps the rush back was to dig up Xia Yilan’s body and check it again.” Han Fei’s analysis made sense, but after hearing it, the other six stars unconsciously distanced themselves from him.
“Why are you all staying so far away from ?” Han Fei was sowhat puzzled, “Either we’re all humans, or we’re all ghosts, we’re always in the sa boat.”
After speaking, Han Fei picked up the diary, “The security guard wrote on February twenty-fourth that if he didn’t co back alive, then the person who finds the diary should go to the room next to the security room to look for the information he left behind.
Let’s go, we’ll first check out the place he ntioned, and then visit the elevator that the security colleague said was haunted.”
The dark and enclosed environnt, the terrifying and strange atmosphere, and the calm and composed Han Fei, these three elents combined to create a harmoniously ominous shot, as if they were inherently one.
“It’s different filming a horror film.
For actors like us who shoot urban romance and workplace movies, it’s really hard to adapt to this atmosphere.” Xiao Chen and Wu Li followed behind Han Fei as well.
After searching for a while, they finally found the security guard’s room on the second floor, which only had so basic living necessities.
They moved next door and found a locked, run-down ward.
“The door is locked, we’ll need to find the key first.” Wu Li walked into the security room, “We must have overlooked the clues to the key…”
“Bang!”
Just as Wu Li finished speaking, several actors heard a loud bang; they stared dumbfounded at the door Han Fei had kicked open, their brows throbbing.
“Sorry, force of habit,” Han Fei said as he entered the room.
He slled a faint stench of decay and, looking up, saw colorful photos of the seven of them hanging on the wall.
“Why are our photos here?
And why are all of us dressed in graduation gowns?”
“These photos are creepy, it feels like they’re soulless.
How were they edited?”
“Look!
There’s an object placed under each photo, there’s a small iron cage under Bai Cha’s photo, clothes under Xiao Chen’s, and under Xia Yilan’s photo is…
a human face?!”
The six actors stopped in front of Xia Yilan’s photo, staring at the face that had been peeled off a model, then all turned their heads to look at Xia Yilan.
Xia Yilan was in bad shape, shivering with cold.
“Are you sick?” Wu Li took off his own coat and kindly offered it, but Xia Yilan, as if triggered by sothing, abruptly knocked Wu Li’s clothes to the ground.
“I never wear clothes that others have worn.”
Seemingly aware she had been impolite, Xia Yilan quickly picked up Wu Li’s clothes, managing a strained smile, “Don’t misunderstand, that’s a line from the script, it’s just the character and setting I’m playing.”
“Understood, understood,” Wu Li was just an ordinary third-rate horror film actor, no matter what Xia Yilan said, he would always give the other a way out.
“Han Fei, what do these things under the photos an?” Li Huang began to think along Han Fei’s lines, “Could it be our murder motives?
Bai Cha had once locked a woman in an iron cage, Xia Yilan had stolen that woman’s face?”
“Don’t talk nonsense!” Bai Cha exclaid in alarm.
The stars were all chattering away, while Han Fei was looking at the seven color photos.
Red ink had been used to write the words “give my face back to ” on the photos of the other six, but on Han Fei’s photo, soone had painted a red cross with paint.
“Is it really the Painter?
But how could he appear here?”
The most mysterious and strangely talented hatred at the Plastic Surgery Hospital was the Painter, and even Doctor Yan was unclear about his background; Han Fei himself only knew that in the White Orphanage, the Painter had trapped the severely injured Gesheng using just the oil paintings on the wall.
“The Painter isn’t as powerful as Butterfly, but when I killed Butterfly, it just happened to be Soul-returning Night, and half of Butterfly’s body was in a nightmare while the other half was in Deep World.
Additionally, with Gesheng’s suppression, all of us joined forces to barely kill it.”
Killing Butterfly had a lot to do with luck, as the Butterfly Han Fei faced probably had only fifty percent of its full power.
“Even if the Painter is weaker, he’s definitely stronger than Butterfly at fifty percent power.
This guy is a bit tricky,” Han Fei thought.
Han Fei actually didn’t want to encounter the Painter just yet, with Xu Qin breaking through her hatred, he had a plan in mind.
He was preparing to bring the goodwill of Little White Shoes and the two hatreds from Death Building to induce the hatred of the Plastic Surgery Hospital, to negotiate at the “Neutral Place” Departnt Store.
If everything went smoothly, they could all enter Paradise together.
If not, then it would be a good opportunity to use Mirror God’s power to create a situation where many could attack the few and besiege Little White Shoes.
“Han Fei?
Han Fei!” Alin tapped Han Fei’s shoulder lightly, “We’ve found the torn page from the security diary.”
Han Fei turned to look as Alin picked so fragnts out of the crevice between floor tiles, which she pieced together to reveal just one sentence—There is a ghost among those eight people!
“You really guessed it, the last content torn from the security diary must be conjecture about the identity of the ghost,” Wu Li searched the room but found no other clues, “We’re at a stalemate again.”
“Let’s go, check out the elevator in that building.” Han Fei pocketed the scrap of paper, “The security guard ntioned in his diary that his colleague saw a person without a shadow entering the elevator, maybe that elevator can only be used by ghosts.”
“Do we have to go to that building?” Xiao Chen couldn’t maintain his warm, sunny image anymore, “I know Tang Yi’s variety shows are always unpredictable, but I never imagined this recording process would be so torturous.”
Han Fei didn’t bother listening to Xiao Chen’s complaints and headed straight for the building.
The building was fitted with nurous hidden caras, and Han Fei wanted to see if the Painter would appear in front of the lenses.
The seven of them re-entered the corridor, heading towards the annex.
The inside of the building was much darker, only the area around the elevator had a light that was still fairly bright.
“This place has been deserted for so many years, can the elevator still operate?” Alin was a little worried, she was a newcor to variety shows.
“In terms of safety, you can fully trust Tang Yi, all props used in their variety shows have been checked over thoroughly more than five tis,” Wu Li finished speaking and then pressed the elevator button.
The decrepit elevator doors slowly opened, releasing a foul stench from the interior.
Inside lay a severed leg.
“It should be a prop, don’t be nervous,” Wu Li entered the elevator to check, but suddenly a green eerie light appeared on the cracked display screen of the elevator, “There are words carved into the severed leg prop, saying you must feed it sothing to enter the elevator!
Living people need organs and body parts, dead people need…”
Before Wu Li could finish reading, the elevator started trembling, and its doors began to close slowly, scaring Wu Li into running out swiftly.
“What kind of chanism is this?” Wu Li was shaken, “Good thing I’m fast.”
“It seems just as I thought, we can use the elevator to verify each other’s identities.
Just find the bodies hidden in the building, and we can get the elevator to open for one minute,” Han Fei approached the elevator, but as he did, the light above the elevator doorway suddenly went out.
The stars, caught off guard, scread, but Han Fei was left startled; he rembered the security guard’s diary stating that his colleague saw a ghost without a shadow, whose presence extinguished the lights.
“Am I the ghost?
Or is the ghost getting closer to this place?”
