282: Chapter 282: Human Story (Three More) 282: Chapter 282: Human Story (Three More) Han Fei pressed the button for the second floor, yet now the elevator had stopped at the second basent level.
The silver-gray elevator doors had not fully opened when a pale-faced schoolgirl appeared at the entrance, about to step inside when she suddenly seed to see sothing, and her body froze in place.
Her pupils darted anxiously within their sockets as the girl stared at a corner of the elevator, then abruptly withdrew her foot, turned, and sprinted towards the pitch-black corridor.
“Why would there be a girl in the Security Company’s second basent level?
She looks so scared, could she have encountered sothing terrible?”
Without giving it much thought, Han Fei rushed out with the Spiritual Altar in his arms.
The girl walked with a strange gait, as if one of her legs had no bones; worried that she might be followed by soone with nefarious intent, Han Fei kept following her.
Unexpectedly, the girl sped up her pace and, after turning a corner, vanished without a trace.
The overhead lights occasionally flickered, and during those brief monts of darkness, subtle changes seed to occur in the corridor, but it was impossible to discern exactly what changed.
Han Fei stood in the middle of the corridor, surveying his surroundings.
Below the Security Company were numbered single rooms, resembling either the company’s dormitory or converted underground rentals.
“The Protector God of Yimin Street lives in a place like this?”
The dark, damp walls were covered in moss, and a chill perated his body.
Han Fei was about to knock on one of the cleaner-looking doors to inquire with the residents when he suddenly noticed that the elevator doors behind him were still open.
“Was the elevator waiting for ?
Why do I keep feeling like soone is watching ?”
His gaze slowly drifted as Han Fei looked toward the surveillance cara in the corner, which he had initially assud was just for show, given the dust covering it.
He waved at the cara and flashed a friendly smile, indicating he had no ill intentions—at least for the mont.
Perhaps constrained by the strong moral codes of reality, Han Fei felt embarrassed to attempt breaking into a door while being recorded.
After wandering around the second basent floor and discovering that all the doors were locked, he returned to the elevator.
Strangely enough, as soon as he entered the elevator, the overload indicator lit up, but then it quickly returned to normal.
The elevator doors slowly closed, with all the nurical buttons on the control panel lit up.
Just as the silver-gray doors were nearly shut, Han Fei saw the face of a woman peeking around the corner of the corridor.
Pale expression, trembling eyes, and a face filled with terror.
“Bang!”
The mont he saw the woman’s face, Han Fei stretched his hand into the elevator doorway, grabbing onto the heavy door.
As he made contact, the elevator doors opened again.
Holding the Spiritual Altar, Han Fei didn’t think twice before dashing towards the corner of the corridor.
But by the ti he reached the corner, the pitiable girl had already disappeared.
“Was she coerced?”
Han Fei could not understand why a schoolgirl would appear in the Security Company, but by her looks, she seed to desperately need help.
“That girl probably harbors a mission.”
Regretfully looking at the wall beside him, Han Fei thought that if he could secure a mobile phone in the Deep World, he would be able to leave his phone number on the wall right now.
That way, he could start a conversation to slowly close the distance and open a channel of communication between them.
Having returned to the elevator, Han Fei held the Spiritual Altar and stood obediently in the corner.
He did not know where the elevator would stop next; all he could do was slowly explore this way.
The display continued to change numbers, and when the elevator doors opened again, Han Fei was at the fourth basent level.
A cold breeze entered the elevator, and the overload indicator lit up once more.
Han Fei looked at the empty elevator car, but the overload indicator simply would not go off.
“So should I leave?”
He hugged the Spiritual Altar as he stepped out of the elevator, and the silver-gray elevator doors slowly closed and began ascending.
“A Security Company with so many floors underground is in itself a matter to ponder deeply.”
The fourth basent seed to be a storeroom; it appeared as if no one had been there for a long ti, many of the doors were unlocked, and the hallway was cluttered with so broken furniture and dust-covered trash.
“Do even the employees rarely co to this floor?”
The corridor was pitch black, with only a single light near the elevator.
Standing there looking inwards, it was slightly chilling.
As the rustling sound of electricity arose, that lone light began to flicker.
Furrowing his brow, Han Fei turned around to press the elevator button on the outside, but after pressing it several tis, the button seed broken, it didn’t light up at all.
The sounds of the button’s spring chanism “clicking,” “clicking” echoed in the corridor, sounding sowhat helpless.
Watching the elevator move farther away from him, Han Fei suddenly stopped what he was doing; he had caught a whiff of faint blood scent.
The sll appeared suddenly and then drifted into his nostrils from afar.
He turned around, just as the light above his head went out, and at the dark end of the corridor, a sowhat distorted figure had inexplicably appeared.
The body had fallen and twisted; the face was completely disfigured, and it was rapidly moving closer to Han Fei.
“What is this thing?”
The light above suddenly ca on, and there was nothing in the cluttered passage, but the blood scent seed to have grown stronger.
Leaving a small gap in the Spiritual Altar, Han Fei and that thing seed both to be waiting for the light to go out.
The blood scent in the air was like claws scratching at one’s heart; after the brief mont of light, darkness descended again.
In utter blackness, the sound of items being touched could be heard, the vague, misshapen figure was moving quickly through the debris, covered with awful wounds.
It was getting closer!
The light ca on, and everything returned to normal as if the monster seen in the darkness was just a fignt of Han Fei’s imagination.
Seconds later, in the humming of the electric current, the light went out again.
The eerie figure had crawled to within five or six ters of Han Fei; he could clearly see its blurred, flesh-covered face and the broken bones piercing through the skin.
With a look of horror on his face, Han Fei frantically pressed the broken elevator button, amid the urgent noises, the scent of blood filled everything, as if it had climbed to his hair.
Four ters!
Three ters!
Blood-red footprints appeared atop the trash; a limping chair was overturned.
Just as the deford monster crawled within two ters of Han Fei, it suddenly stopped.
The hazy face fixated on sothing behind Han Fei, its cracked skull slowly tilting to one side; it suddenly discovered that every ti the light went out, an additional shadow appeared behind the living person in front of it?
The light by the elevator sprung up again, brightening the dark; yet, it could not dispel the fear.
The surrounding was dead quiet; Han Fei’s breathing beca rapid, his every minute expression screaming unease and terror.
His fingers were desperately pressing the elevator button, but the numbers on the elevator display screen remained unchanged.
The fear in Han Fei’s eyes escalated step by step, turning into desperation; his sanity was being eroded by uneasiness!
And at that mont, the lights went out again.
With the most terrified expression, Han Fei looked in front of him, only to find the monster with its bloody, blurry face had reappeared five ters away from him.
“Is it even trying to move back?”
Han Fei’s face still wore the deepest fear, yet the hand he hid behind his back silently retrieved a blunt knife from the Item Bar.
“Is it because my acting wasn’t good enough?
Why do I feel like you’re insulting my acting skills?”
