Chapter - 49.1

"She won’t tell the truth that easily," Lucius muttered to himself. He knew her type, she was cunning, evil, and always pretending to be innocent.

As he stepped out of the elevator, he spotted a room service boy passing by with a half-finished drinks tray. Lucius didn’t hesitate.

"Hey," he called out the boy with a wave.

The boy stopped and greeted Lucius with a pleasant smile, "Can I help you, sir?"

But Lucius just grabbed a bottle of whiskey from the tray without asking, "Thanks," he muttered, giving the boy a cheeky smile, "Now off you go."

And when the boy was gone, standing in the hallway, he uncorked the bottle and took a few long gulps. The burn hit his throat, it was refreshing.

Then he splashed a little on his shirt and collar, then ran his fingers through his hair, making it ssy. He loosened two buttons on his shirt and let his shoulders slump.

He looked like a man who had been drinking too much. He looked like soone emotional and vulnerable.

Exactly the look he wanted.

Then, he walked to Cassey’s room and knocked once, casually.

The door opened a couple of seconds later.

Cassey stood there in a silk robe, her hair loose, lips curved into a teasing smile. She leaned on the doorfra like she’d been expecting him.

"Well, look who finally showed up," Her lips curled up in a smirk, "Not playing hard to get anymore?"

Lucius gave a lazy, drunken grin and staggered slightly, pretending to lose balance.

"Had a rough night," he slurred, "Needed a drink... and maybe so company."

She chuckled and stepped aside, "Co in. You always find your way to , eventually."

She wrapped an arm around his waist and helped him in, letting him sink onto the edge of her bed.

Lucius kept his act up, rubbing his eyes and letting out a deep breath, "Everyone’s fake," he muttered, "Backstabbing liars... Can’t trust anyone in this damn place."

"Oh?" Cassey tilted her head, walking over to the table and pouring him another glass, "That’s a heavy thing to say. For my innocent Lucius.

"Want to tell what happened?"

He took the glass, sipped lightly, eyes scanning her every move.

"That bitch happened, what else,"

Lucius let out a groggy sigh and turned his head toward her, "Iris..." he slurred, "She... She blad for sothing I didn’t even do. She shouted at . She even slapped . Said she’ssss going to fire ..."

"How dare she slap you?" she hissed. A shadow passed over Cassey’s expression, but her fingers softly stroked his shoulder, "I told you she is so selfish. She just cares about herself and nothing else."

"For everyone is just a stepping stone. You are no different."

Lucius didn’t say anything. He just looked down, and that’s when he saw her hands.

Her nails. All perfect. Immaculate.

But last ti... He can surely rember one was missing.

His eyes narrowed slightly, but he didn’t react. Instead, he leaned further into the act.

"She always acts so high and mighty," he muttered bitterly, "Treats everyone like trash. Thinks she’s better than the rest of us."

Cassey smirked, her eyes gleaming, "You are not wrong," she said, her voice hardening, "I also just hate her, from the day she ca into my life, she made it hell," she hissed, and one could actually see the disgust on his face.

But suddenly she smirked, "But this ti I made sure she finally got what she deserved."

Lucius turned his head slowly toward her, feigning drunken curiosity.

"Huh?" he asked, voice heavy with a slur, "What did you do?"

"Huh, nothing. I was saying that we will make sure she will pay for it," she said, quickly hiding her smile.

Lucius knew Cassey wouldn’t give up the truth that easily. He had to play along— the way she likes.

"You know, I finally understood. You are the only one who cares for , Cassey," he whispered hoarsely.

Her eyes softened, and her smile turned smug. She stroked his lips with her thumb.

"Finally, you see it. I have always been here for you, Lucius. And I will always be."

He leaned in, letting their breaths mingle, "So... Do you have any idea how to destroy her? To make her regret what she did to ? Will you take my revenge?"

Cassey’s smirk sharpened, "Yeah, I just..." she paused mid-sentence, her smile flickering. Then, a fake grin took its place, "We will plan sothing together?"

Lucius saw the dodge. She wasn’t about to hand him the truth easily. Fine. He had another card to play.

Without warning, he rolled her onto her back, hovering over her, letting his body press down against hers.

He kissed her. First her lips, then her neck. She gasped, moaned slightly, her hands tangling into his shirt.

"Tell ," he whispered into her ear, voice dark and low, "What would you do to make her suffer for hurting ?"

Her body tensed. Her control flickered.

"Don’t you worry darling. I... I have already..."

But they were interrupted as suddenly, her phone buzzed.

The spell broke.

She stiffened and quickly pushed him back gently, jolted upright, brushing her robe into place.

She grabbed the phone and looked at the screen, "Marcus?" she whispered to herself.

Lucius grabbed her hand, "Who’s it?"

"It’s M... my mom," she stamred, and stood up.

"Hey, leave her. Co to ," he mumbled, pulling her towards him to get the chance of seeing the person who called her. But she gently pulled her arm away and hurried to the balcony.

"Give a second," she said before moving to the balcony.

Lucius rolled onto his back, eyes fixed on her as she slipped onto the balcony.

She answered in a hushed voice, "What’s the urgency?"

"Lucius and Iris are sniffing around. Looking for evidence," Marcus told her from the other side.

Cassey frowned when she heard him, "So? It was bound to happen."

"Make sure that the staff boy doesn’t rat us out. Handle it. And watch your own back." Marcus advised her.

"That’s your job," she said quickly, "I am done with my part. Now it is all up to you how you handle the ss."

"As for Iris and her boy, I can handle them. I know them both better than you."

And with that she hung up.

"Stupid jerk. Thinks he’s smart, huh?" she scoffed, talking to the phone in her hand, "I don’t care now, Lucius is by my side already," she grinned.

"Stupid jerk. Thinks he’s smart, huh?" she scoffed, talking to the phone in her hand, "I don’t care now, Lucius is by my side already," she grinned.

As she turned, she froze.

"Lucius?" she whispered, unsteady.

He stood still and stone-faced, "Your mom," he said icily, "Has a surprisingly deep voice."

"Ye— Yeah, she caught a cold," she stamred.

"Really?" he scoffed, "What was she saying?"

"Nothing. Just asking..."

"But you didn’t ask what happened right?" Lucius pouted, "Don’t you want to know why that bitch slapped ?"

"Ohh! I an yeah, sure," Cassey sighed in relief, "I just didn’t want to hurt you."

"But tell ... Why did that bitch lose her cool this ti?"

"You know na... Soone snuck into her room. So files went missing. And the deal... " His voice was low, and guilty, "No clue who did it."

Cassey blinked innocently, and kept her face calm, "Sounds serious."

Lucius gave her a sideways look, "It is. And the worst part? I think it’s soone close. Soone playing nice on the outside..."

Cassey saw the way he looked at him, and handed him another drink, still smiling, "What? You think it was , Lucius?"

Lucius gave a hollow laugh, "Don’t know. Wouldn’t surprise though."

Cassey placed a hand on his shoulder gently, "I wish I could. But I would never do that to you."

Lucius stared at her hand for a long second, then gave a slow nod, hiding the fire behind his tired eyes.

"Yeah," he said, "I hope not."

Cassey moved closer, her fingers lightly tracing down his chest, "You are thinking too much," she whispered, her voice like silk, "Just relax tonight... forget about all that nonsense."

Lucius looked at her with a tired smile, "You are right," he said softly, "Tonight’s not the night to think."

He took another slow sip of the drink she handed him then passed her the glass, "Cheers," he said.

Cassey giggled, clinking her glass with his, "To us."

"Can you get so ice?" He smiled again, "I will hold this for you," Lucius asked, as he handed her his glass and took hers from her.

"Sure," Cassey nodded and turned to get him ice.

In that brief mont, he reached into his pocket, where a small, thin packet of powder waited. Lucius emptied it into her drink in one smooth, practiced motion. A tasteless, fast-acting sedative that wouldn’t hurt her, just buy him ti.

She turned back, and he was already holding the glass toward her, "Drink with ."

She took it, no questions asked, and drained it in one go, "Happy now?" she teased.

"Very," he murmured.

Within a minute, her movents started to slow. Her smile flickered, her eyelids heavy.

"Lucius... I feel weird..."

"I know. That’s because you talk too much," he said gently.

She stumbled forward, reaching for him, but he caught her carefully, laying her down on the bed.

Her body went limp, and her breathing deepened. Fast asleep.

Lucius stood there a mont, staring down at her.

"Never trust soone who lies to your face with a smile," he said softly, brushing a lock of hair from her forehead, "You should know that the best."

"You almost had , Cassey."

He turned and slipped out of the room without a sound.
