83: Chapter 12: Sensual Fragrance_2 83: Chapter 12: Sensual Fragrance_2 Lin Xiaoguai hadn’t had the chance to be polite with a few words when Wang Wei Jun shot off like a bullet.
She blinked, “Shall we go in then?”
Shen Chi took her hand, leading her into the military building.
Perhaps because everyone was out for morning exercises, there were no people to be seen in the military building.
Just as Wang Wei Jun had said, they easily found the ho where they would spend the next two years.
Shen Chi unlocked the door with a key, and Lin Xiaoguai stepped inside to check the place.
It seed to have been cleaned up roughly, as there was no accumulation of dust.
Opening several room doors to take a look, Lin Xiaoguai was sowhat surprised to find that it was a four-bedroom and two-living room apartnt.
Although it wasn’t as luxurious as those in future generations, it still had tiled floors, two bathrooms complete with bathtubs, mirrors, and flush toilets; basic furniture and kitchen utensils were all available and looking extrely clean and spacious.
Considering Shen Chi’s current rank, however, she soon found it not surprising.
She took out a small blanket to spread on the floor and placed Little Niangao on top, then rolled up her sleeves to start a second round of cleaning.
Fortunately, there were cleaning tools available like mops, buckets, and dusters.
Shen Chi also ca over to help.
The two divided the labor efficiently: Shen Chi was responsible for tasks requiring strength, such as fetching and changing water, as well as the dangerous task of cleaning the windows, while Lin Xiaoguai took care of sweeping, mopping, and scrubbing furniture and objects.
Having a large house had its disadvantages too, but thankfully they had eaten breakfast before coming.
After working all morning, they finally had the place cleaned up.
The only thing left was to procure so daily necessities.
After storing the cleaning tools away, the two of them, famished, headed to the cafeteria with Little Niangao in their arms.
The cafeteria was bustling with activity.
Soldiers who had just finished training were chatting loudly in groups, their voices naturally louder than those of ordinary people.
Initially, no one noticed them, but once the first person did, the couple’s outstanding appearances prompted reminders from one person to another, and soon more and more eyes were on them.
“Is that Lieutenant Colonel Shen?” At that mont, a tall, robust-looking man in his early thirties, stepped forward through the crowd and said, “I’m Jiang Wei, a Lieutenant.
I’m looking forward to learning from you in the future.”
The crowd let out surprised murmurs: Lieutenant Colonel?
He doesn’t look like he’s even thirty, does he?
“Hello, you can just call Shen Chi.” In fact, in the military, people usually just called each other by their nas in private, regardless of rank—unless you had a stickler for a superior who liked giving people a hard ti.
But clearly, Shen Chi wasn’t among them.
Seeing that he did not show the slightest arrogance, Jiang Wei’s tense expression relaxed a bit.
He turned to Lin Xiaoguai, “This must be your sister-in-law and nephew, right?
My place is just above yours.
If sister-in-law has free ti, she’s welco to co up and chat with my wife.”
He didn’t seem too easy to get along with, but his words nevertheless revealed a warm and straightforward nature.
“We’ll definitely co to visit,” Lin Xiaoguai said with a gentle smile.
Her smile was soft, and Jiang Wei’s heart felt a bit embarrassed, clearly seeing she was not the type to easily sh with his own wife.
Not wishing to impose any further, Jiang Wei took his leave.
Shen Chi went to fetch their als, and because they were starving, they didn’t bother being picky and just enjoyed their food—in fact, the food quality of the security district’s cafeteria was quite decent, certainly better than the one Shen Chi had experienced previously in J province.
Little Niangao, having been fed before arriving, was quiet, curiously watching the sea of olive-drab around him.
While they were eating, many people were sizing them up.
By the ti they finished, people had started to co up to greet them.
When they exited the cafeteria an hour later, Lin Xiaoguai let out a slightly overwheld sigh of relief.
Such direct enthusiasm could indeed be overwhelming.
“You and Little Niangao head back first.
I need to go to the military area to get acquainted with the work.
I’ve asked around, and there’s a general store in the family area.
You can buy what you need there.
If it’s too heavy, leave it at the store, and I’ll pick it up on my way back,” Shen Chi told her at the entrance to the family area.
“You go ahead with your things, I can handle this,” Lin Xiaoguai said, intending to buy her own necessities rather than picking anything indiscriminately from the general store, but she saw no need to ntion this to Shen Chi.
After returning ho, Lin Xiaoguai purchased a set of bedding from the exchange store.
Once the bed was made, she tucked her newly woken son into it and then began decorating their new ho.
She sorted out bedding, kitchenware, condints, and then moved on to acquiring small items such as towels, tablecloths, sofa cushions, carpets, curtains, cups…
By the ti Lin Xiaoguai felt it was about right, it was already evening, with Little Niangao awake and playing with toys on the carpet, while she herself was sewing a white shirt.
“The people at the general store said you didn’t co?” Shen Chi asked as soon as he entered, but then he stopped, astonished, and pointed at the various items in the room that looked well put together, and even exceeded expectations, “Where did all these co from?”
“I bought them,” Lin Xiaoguai clipped the last thread and said.
Shen Chi frowned, “You went outside?”
Lin Xiaoguai neither confird nor denied, just remarking, “I’m not fond of the things in the general store.”
Shen Chi was sowhat helpless.
He wanted to scold her but couldn’t find the words.
He sighed in the end, “Don’t do that next ti.
Running off to unfamiliar places, I’ll worry.” He had been shocked when the general store staff said Wanwan hadn’t shown up – he thought she might be sick or feeling unwell.
Lin Xiaoguai simply acknowledged his concern, and as Shen Chi was about to say more, he noticed the shirt in her hands and suddenly laughed, “Is that for ?”
Lin Xiaoguai rolled her eyes at him, “I made it for myself!”
Shen Chi didn’t believe that—it was obviously a man’s shirt.
He changed his shoes and sat down beside her, taking a look and expressing surprise, “Is it almost finished?”
His wife’s skills were truly remarkable; the shirt he was wearing was one she had made, and he felt extrely comfortable in it.
However, seeing grandpa, grandma, and Xiu’er each having several garnts, while he himself had the least, he felt rather unhappy.
He managed, after much effort, to convince Wanwan to make him a few more.
For this reason, the normally frugal Shen Chi had purposefully left most of his clothing at ho this ti, precisely to prevent her from making excuses.
