Her eyes locked onto Shen Chi like a desert traveler fixed upon a mirage of an oasis, nearly screaming out "Shen Chi, Shen Chi, you have to tell him, that day I wasn’t at Rose Bar, I was with you. Tell him, tell him..."
She kept repeating "tell him," looking pitifully desperate, but Shen Chi was utterly unmoved, ruthlessly shattering Xu ii’s fantasy with a cold expression, "On New Year’s Eve, I was out of town on business, then went straight ho to be with my family without any stops on the way."
Xu ii’s face turned ashen visibly fast, and suddenly, the grip she had on her child loosened. Before anyone could react, the child had hit the floor, letting out a heart-wrenching cry.
Mrs. Yu was startled, and her instinct to nurture kicked in as she picked the child up imdiately. After a quick check, she was relieved to find that, thanks to the carpet, the child was unhard, rely scared.
But in the next mont, Xu ii suddenly snatched the child and threw him towards the corner of the coffee table—
"What are you doing!" Mrs. Yu couldn’t help but shriek.
Luckily, this ti Jiang Tao reacted quickly, catching the child before his head hit the corner of the table.
Before he could sigh in relief, Xu ii reached for the child, attempting to wrench him back.
Jiang Tao dared not hand the child back to her, continuing to dodge her.
"Give my child back!" Xu ii’s voice was hoarse, screaming like she had lost her mind.
"ii, what are you doing, let go!" Dong Min had also caught onto the situation by now, stepping forward to try and pry Xu ii’s hands free.
Xu ii turned a deaf ear, hell-bent on taking the child.
Dong Min realized sothing was terribly wrong, exerting more force, but strangely, Xu ii had a surprisingly strong grip, and no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t pull her off.
Jiang Tao lifted the child higher, while Xu ii yanked at his sleeve, trying to pull the child down; Dong Min, one hand on Jiang Tao’s sleeve, the other on Xu ii’s hand, attempted to separate the two, leading to a tense stalemate.
"Little sister, co and help!" Seeing things go south, Dong Min quickly called for backup.
"Huh? Oh, I’m on it!" Dong Fei was startled for a mont before stepping up to help.
Lin Xiaoguai was a bit dazed and turned to Shen Chi—what on earth was happening?
Shen Chi patted her arm soothingly and said with a stern voice, "Enough, if you want to make trouble, go make it elsewhere!"
"Lieutenant General?" Jiang Tao was puzzled.
The Lieutenant General wasn’t especially kind-hearted, but this wasn’t right, not when an innocent child was involved.
"Let her try to kill the child if she wants. That way, she becos a murderer, and all our problems are solved," Shen Chi thought and said out loud.
Instantly, everyone felt a chill down their spine—how heartless must one be to disregard a child’s life?
Shen Chi, however, only noticed Lin Xiaoguai, who was shaken. He gently put his arm around her shoulder and then said, "However, even if she wants to kill the child, please do it sowhere else. Don’t dirty my ho."
Before anyone could react, Xu ii, quivering, let go of Jiang Tao, turned her stunned gaze toward Shen Chi—her look could not have been more despairing.
"ii?" Even Dong Min, who had always been sparing in his affections for Xu ii, couldn’t help but softly call out.
But her gaze suddenly shifted, settling on Lin Xiaoguai, and before anyone understood what was happening, she lunged at her, hands reaching for Lin Xiaoguai’s neck.
Truth be told, in that instant, Lin Xiaoguai was a bit bewildered. Thankfully, though her mind was foggy, her body instinctively leaned back.
—She hadn’t expected, not in this lifeti nor the last, that she would still end up in a situation where Xu ii was strangling her.
"Xu ii!" Shen Chi’s furious voice erupted.
The next mont, everyone saw a blur before their eyes, and Xu ii was flung away by Shen Chi grabbing her wrist.
He threw her with such force that her body soared through the air, smashing into the shoe cabinet at the entrance with a loud crash, then flopped to the ground like a rag doll.
"ii!" Dong Min was startled, turning angrily to Shen Chi, "What do you an by this?"
"What do I an?" Shen Chi was livid, "I feel like killing soone!"
With these words, the murderous aura he had honed on the battlefield, usually suppressed, was unleashed without restraint, pressing down on everyone in the vicinity.
Dong Min and Dong Fei were frozen stiff, eyes wide with fear as they looked at Shen Chi.
Mrs. Yu was also terrified by the side of Shen Chi she had never seen before.
"Shen Chi," Lin Xiaoguai tugged at Shen Chi’s sleeve.
Shen Chi paused, the killing intent dissipating in an instant as he turned to Lin Xiaoguai, and suddenly, he embraced her tightly, as if to confirm her existence.
—For so reason, at that mont, he had felt an extre fear. Although, with his skills and presence, Wanwan was in no danger from Xu ii, and indeed, she was unhard, but he felt inexplicably terrified.
Lin Xiaoguai was sowhat uncomfortable in his strong embrace, yet she didn’t resist and instead hugged him back.
"What’s wrong?" she asked softly.
Shen Chi’s fearful emotions were unmistakable, yet feeling the answer absurd, she swallowed her words, "Why are you afraid?"
Dong Min and Dong Fei breathed a sigh of relief amongst themselves, exchanging a glance as both their hearts sank.
They were going to be ruined by Xu ii!
Xu ii, in pain all over, fixated her unwavering gaze on Shen Chi and Lin Xiaoguai hugging, a storm of agony and resentnt swirling in her eyes.
"Xu ii, I’ll give you two options, either stay in a ntal institution for life or marry Zhou Jincai."
Amidst the haze, the chilling voice of Shen Chi slowly resonated.
