There were plenty of people in the courtyard who couldn’t stand Fan Quanfu, saying that although he was a man, he behaved like a woman and couldn’t handle things decently.
On the way back, everyone looked at Lin Xiaoguai differently. Goodness, they had thought she was just a rabbit, yet who knew a rabbit’s bite could also hurt.
Lin Xiaoguai was in a good mood too. She knew it wasn’t a permanent fix, but she figured if she pulled this off a few more tis, no one would dare to ss with her again.
As for those ladies who were stirring the pot and trying to ruin Lin Xiaoguai’s reputation... Lin Xiaoguai had her ways to deal with them.
When the year-end ca, Zhi Xin Garden’s gift shop added a new area, which Lin Xiaoguai called the "A-grade section." This section included all types of rchandise available in the store, but it was all top-notch and rarely seen goods.
The transaction thod in this area was different from other areas; it only accepted bespoke and advance reservation services.
Bespoke service, as the na suggests, ant crafting products tailored to the custor’s needs, whether it was jewelry, embroidery, dicine, ceramics, food, flowers—anything in the store could be chosen.
Such bespoke items were precious, with only one order accepted per year; one definitely needed good fortune to be chosen.
Then there were the advance reservations; Lin Xiaoguai would sketch designs of works in planning, which custors could reserve for later production and sale. Although reserved goods weren’t as significant as bespoke ones, they were still one-of-a-kind, with no second copies made.
Reservation services were not like bespoke services, which were offered once a year; they depended solely on Lin Xiaoguai’s preferences. That is, she might be in the mood to add several dozen reservation goods in a month, or due to a bad mood, only introduce one over half a year. The chance to reserve a favorite item depended on luck too.
However, unlike bespoke services which were relatively fair, Lin Xiaoguai had much room to maneuver with reservation services. For example, when new reservation goods were launched, she could easily inform well-acquainted custors ahead of ti. As for those not well-inford, well...
Lin Xiaoguai’s gift shop had always been about high-quality goods, and the newly introduced A-grade section contained the crè de la crè. Upper society was already full of competition, and the bespoke service had been scheduled to open during next year’s store celebration. Unsurprisingly, the reserved goods quickly beca objects of fierce competition among the ladies and misses of the Capital’s Upper Layer, symbolizing a kind of tacit status.
"Mrs. Shen, are you saying there’s truly not a single reserved good left?" The plump middle-aged lady asked anxiously.
Lin Xiaoguai shook her head regretfully, "I’m sorry, Mrs. Chu, but the last A-grade item was reserved at nine this morning."
"What about new reservation goods?" Mrs. Chu was sweating bullets. At the last gathering, she was the only one without an A-grade item. If she turned up empty-handed again this ti, she couldn’t imagine the ridicule she would face.
Lin Xiaoguai still shook her head, "Actually, the most recent batch of reservation goods was released these past few days; the store won’t be introducing new reservations for a short while."
"Mrs. Shen, can’t you make an exception for ?"
"Absolutely powerless, I’m afraid." Lin Xiaoguai replied softly, "Mrs. Chu knows, reservations are chronological. Even if I could co up with new design sketches now, it would be a long wait for the items. It seems like you’re in a hurry..."
Mrs. Chu’s expression fell, her eyes brimming with resentnt. Gritting her teeth, she said, "I’ve heard when the new reservation goods are available, Mrs. Gu and Mrs. Sheng receive phone calls?"
"That’s true." Lin Xiaoguai didn’t deny it, just smiling craftily, "You are well aware of the relationship between Mrs. Gu, Mrs. Sheng, and our family. I believe I understand their preferences well too, so naturally, I inform them about new goods of interest."
"Isn’t that unfair to everyone else?" Mrs. Chu stared at her determinedly.
She wasn’t stupid; she knew she had yet to reserve any A-grade goods because of the rumors about Lin Xiaoguai she had spread in the past.
"It can’t be helped." Lin Xiaoguai spoke gently, "After all, I don’t have everyone’s contact information, do I? And even if I did, I’m not well acquainted with the custors, how would I know what interests them? If I waste everyone’s ti, that’s my fault. Besides, there’s only one of in the store – if I call all the custors for every new item, I wouldn’t have ti for anything else."
That sounded nice, but wasn’t it just about whose calls you answered, depending on your mood?
Mrs. Chu was beside herself with rage but couldn’t express it; she could only swallow her anger and say, "I’ll leave my phone number; please don’t forget to inform when there’s a new reservation." She paused, as if afraid of being excluded again, and added, "I’m very interested in both jewelry and embroidery."
She still relied on the gift shop’s items for face value. If she had to attend events with outdated jewelry again, she would be mortified.
Lin Xiaoguai nodded in agreent, "Of course."
She knew when to quit while ahead. Since the other party had backed down, and presumably chastened by the lesson, the traditionally gossipy lady wouldn’t dare speak ill of her again.
Similar incidents had happened many tis before. None who had participated in spreading rumors previously had been spared.
Seeing how people in the courtyard changed their attitudes toward Lin Xiaoguai so drastically, Shen Chi was both surprised and delighted. He hadn’t expected Wanwan to handle people so adeptly.
"You did great!" When his wife perford so well, he was not stingy with his praise, leaning in to give her a long, deep kiss.
Lin Xiaoguai glanced at him, "Aren’t you rewarding the wrong person?"
Shen Chi caught her insinuation instantly, asking softly in her ear, "Then what reward would you like?"
Lin Xiaoguai’s eyes twinkled cunningly, "How about you lie down tonight and let do as I please?"
Shen Chi imdiately shook his head like a rattle-drum; that was not a man’s business, and he wasn’t falling for that. (To be continued.
