Chapter 380: Chapter 15: The Lost Golden Pendant_2

“The Lin Family’s young master is getting pretty old, huh?” Lin Xiaoguai asked curiously.

“He’s not that old; he’s only ten years older than Miss Song. He’s just 32 now, and he’s been willing to wait for Miss Song for so many years, which obviously ans he’s more than just a little fond of her.”

So the supposed discord between the two was actually just Song Tianrou making a fuss on her own.

“Ten years older?” Lin Xiaoguai couldn’t help but glance at Shen Chi.

Shen Chi was startled and it took him a mont to realize that he too was ten years older than Wanwan!

But he had never cared about that fact. Not that he was so open-minded; it’s just that no one had ever brought it up to him. Given his age, he and Wanwan should have looked quite different in appearance, but over the years Wanwan had been taking good care of the family’s health. Not to ntion Shen Chi had always been using those dicinal baths to strengthen his body. Therefore, he not only didn’t look old—so people would believe he was under thirty. Plus, he never experienced the physical weakness common to people his age and could still easily best the combat soldiers on the training ground.

But from the way Wanwan had looked at him earlier, could it be that she also resented the fact that he was ten years older than her?

Shen Chi’s heart caught for a mont, feeling slightly ominous.

“Then if Miss Song hates Young Master Lin so much, how co they’re getting married in just a month?” Lin Xiaoguai asked at this point.

“What else could it be? They’re getting married because of a pregnancy,” Shen Chi ca back to his senses and replied.

Lin Xiaoguai frowned upon hearing this and glanced at Song Tianrou, who was looking down with a sullen expression, and said, “It couldn’t be that Young Master Lin…”

“You’re overthinking it.” Shen Chi’s expression turned peculiar for an instant, and he whispered in her ear, “I know so insider information. Apparently, Miss Song got her hands on so aphrodisiac. She planned to seduce a college classmate to ruin her reputation and get the families to call off the engagent. But at the last mont, she got cold feet. Still, it was Young Master Lin who ended up rescuing her. Then they got into an argunt, and in a fit of anger, Miss Song accidentally took the aphrodisiac, and… well, you know the rest.”

Lin Xiaoguai was mortified. Was Miss Song not right in the head? This was clearly a case of shooting herself in the foot. She thought that Song’s previous argunts were just spoken in anger; she didn’t expect she would actually do sothing so foolish.

Shen Chi, on the other hand, thought that it was fine for a woman to be a bit silly, as long as she was silly in a way that n liked, just like Miss Song. After all, won as clever as his Wanwan were truly rare.

When the newlyweds ca to offer their toasts, both Lin Yu and Song Tianrou recognized Lin Xiaoguai’s unforgettable face. Both of them looked a bit awkward, fearing Lin Xiaoguai would bring up their past encounter. Fortunately, Lin Xiaoguai was not one to stir up trouble and said nothing of the sort.

When Lin Xiaoguai’s family went to Zhi Xin Garden for a vacation, she rembered that they hadn’t yet hosted a al for friends and relatives on this side. She suggested gathering everyone for a al, given it was sumr, and the farmhouse had plenty of space for a barbecue, which was more than appropriate for the occasion.

Shen Chi naturally had no objections and readily agreed to invite everyone. By the ti Lin Xiaoguai had prepared the at and vegetables at ho and set up the barbeque grill, Han Shouxin’s family had arrived first.

“Elder brother and sister-in-law, how co you’re so early?” Lin Xiaoguai set down the skewer she was holding and asked curiously, lifting her head.

As everyone knew, Han Shouxin was always busier than anyone else. At gatherings like this, he was usually either absent or late. Being this early was a first.

“We ca to tell you sothing.” Zheng Cuicui’s face was a bit pale as she spoke.

“What’s wrong?” Lin Xiaoguai was startled to see her expression.

Han Shouxin coughed lightly, and Zheng Cuicui realized she had been a bit too distraught. She composed herself, took Lin Xiaoguai’s hand, and asked, “Wanwan, do your handmade pieces of jewelry have any unique marks?”

“Of course,” Lin Xiaoguai replied curiously, “Why do you ask all of a sudden?”

Zheng Cuicui’s face brightened, “Then you should be able to recognize your own work, right?”

Lin Xiaoguai found the question strange but nodded in agreent.

Zheng Cuicui imdiately breathed a sigh of relief, almost to the point of tears from joy.

“What’s going on?” Lin Xiaoguai was confused.

“It’s like this,” Han Shouxin began, comforting his wife as he spoke, “Didn’t you give Nuonuo a Dolphin Gold Pendant a while ago?”

Lin Xiaoguai nodded, recalling she indeed had. Granny had told her about the tradition of boys wearing golden locks, and she thought it would be unfair to favor so children over others. So, she made a Dolphin Gold Pendant for each of the kids—Nannan, Nuonuo, Sisi, Qiaoqiao, and Yaya in Shanghai—tying each pendant on a red string for the children to wear.

Han Shouxin continued, “Nuonuo started attending a cram school this year, right? Last month, she lost the pendant there. She searched for several days but couldn’t find it and has been quite down about it. Then yesterday, she saw the pendant you gave her around the neck of one of her classmates. She asked for it back, but the classmate refused, claiming it was a birthday gift her mother had bought for her. Nuonuo isn’t the kind to let things go, so she argued with the classmate about it. The cram school’s teacher intervened and it turns out that the teacher is the classmate’s mother. She claid she bought the pendant as a birthday gift for her daughter during a trip to Shanghai, and could recount the details of when and where it was purchased with clarity. Cuicui tried to explain to the teacher that Nuonuo indeed had a similar Dolphin Gold Pendant, and that it wasn’t an attempt of theft, hoping the teacher would clear the misunderstanding in front of the classmates. However, the teacher was unyielding, even accusing us of condoning our child’s bad behavior, saying Nuonuo would grow up to be a parasite on society. Cuicui was so angry, she skipped lunch, and Nuonuo has been crying too.”
