Chapter 328: Chapter 33 Shen Xiu’s Grievance_2
“Brother, sister.”
“Dad knows about this?”
“Grandma, no.”
“What happened at ho?”
“…”
After a long questioning, everyone suddenly realized, Cheng Tiantian was only three years old, and Zhou was only a year and a half old, how could they speak clearly?
Luo Yufang was sowhat anxious and said, “This damned girl, always making people anxious, never giving anyone peace of mind.”
“Don’t be hasty, the child might have been wronged, don’t show her a stern face later.” Grandpa advised and then could not help but complain, “What’s with Jiahui? Even if Xiu’er doesn’t make a call it’s fine, but it’s been several days’ journey from Z Province to the Capital. He didn’t even know Xiu’er was coming and hasn’t caught on these days? Didn’t he think to give a call?”
Luo Yufang was initially upset because of the earlier part of his statent, but upon hearing the latter part, she nodded in agreent, “Jiahui has always been reliable, how could he suddenly beco unreliable?”
Speaking of Shen Xiu’s husband, Cheng Jiahui—he was a good man. Aside from his appearance, education, and job, the most important thing valued about him was his responsibility.
After the young couple got married, whenever there was sothing in or outside the ho, he imdiately managed it without any delays, very reliable indeed.
“He thought I had called.” At that mont, the newly awoken Shen Xiu ca downstairs.
“Then why didn’t you make a call?” Luo Yufang imdiately snapped angrily.
“I was afraid that you guys wouldn’t let co,” Shen Xiu said, sitting on the sofa and lifting her son reaching for the candy on the coffee table onto her lap.
“What exactly happened?” Shen Chi asked with a frown.
“My mother-in-law ca,” Shen Xiu stated with her head down.
Cheng Jiahui had two older brothers. He was the youngest son in the family, but unfortunately, his parents did not favor him or his eldest brother but rather the middle son.
His eldest brother had gone to college in S Province and afterward settled there for work and got married, only returning ho for festivals. Luo Jiahui followed a similar path as his elder brother, attending university in Z Province and afterward, staying to develop his career.
On the other hand, their middle son, besides his sweet-talking skills, was good for nothing. He hadn’t even passed high school, refused to work steadily, and was always shifty and sneaky. Mr. and Mrs. Cheng took the money asked from their elder and youngest sons to find him a job through connections, but he ended up getting fired several tis by his supervisors, and the money spent beca a complete waste.
Even so, in the eyes of the elderly couple, the middle son was still the best. Both the elder and the youngest sons were deed heartless for abandoning their old parents to enjoy life on their own.
The Shen Family knew about these but Shen Xiu and Cheng Jiahui didn’t live together. Except during the festive seasons, they didn’t interact much, so it shouldn’t matter much.
Mr. and Mrs. Cheng had visited before but only to freeload. Cheng Jiahui was capable of handling these situations. Although he wouldn’t refuse everything, he always knew how to maintain a limit, preventing his parents from being too greedy.
“What did your mother-in-law say?” Luo Yufang speculated.
The mother-in-law never liked her granddaughter, always nitpicking every ti she visited. Initially, Xiuwa was thin-skinned, and after being pricked a few tis, she felt embarrassed, but as ti passed, she took it less to heart.
Perhaps this ti the old woman went too far?
“This ti, my mother-in-law brought Cheng Jiajian and a distant niece nad Fu Chuni, saying that she wanted and Jiahui to find them potential mates,” Shen Xiu said with a look of grievance, “You also know about my second uncle. He’s not much to look at, uneducated, and at thirty he’s still lazing around irresponsibly, and whenever he sees a pretty girl, he can’t take his eyes off her. Not to ntion city girls, how many girls from the countryside would look up to him?”
“Although Fu Chuni is pretty, she has all the bad habits of a country person—not bathing for a month, not washing hands after using the restroom, and staring at everything as if she had never seen it before. I feel embarrassed to go out with her.”
“Also, grandma, you didn’t see it—she’s in her twenties, and she actually snatched food from Tiantian’s hands. When we caught her, she even claid that Tiantian scattered the food around and she picked it up because she couldn’t stand watching it go to waste.”
“Our Tiantian has always been good. When has he ever scattered food around? Yet my mother-in-law actually believed her, pointing at her grandson’s nose and scolding him. Tiantian was so scared that he cried.”
“With Fu Chuni’s behavior, which man in the city would fancy her?”
“I initially thought about casually introducing them to a couple of potential partners to deal with the matter, but my mother-in-law wanted more. If they aren’t college graduates, she would look down upon them!”
Shen Xiu said coldly, “She doesn’t even look at her own behavior, yet she looks down upon ordinary workers. Who would fancy her?”
The family looked at one another. Luo Yufang asked, “Then didn’t Jiahui say anything?”
“Say? Of course, he said. But that’s his mother—who never took her youngest son seriously. Would she listen to him?” Shen Chi spoke angrily, “You guys don’t know how manipulative my mother-in-law can be. As soon as Jiahui said she should go ho, she just sat down at the doorway and started crying and screaming that we were ungracious. In the beginning, the neighbors kindly tried to diate a few words, but after my mother-in-law scratched one neighbor’s face, no one dared to intervene. In just one month, Jiahui and I were fined several tis by the neighborhood committee.”
“If it were just that, it would be bearable. But Fu Chuni actually took a fancy to Jiahui, and my mother-in-law actually thought it was a good idea. She outright asked Jiahui to divorce . When we ignored her, she said she would sue Jiahui for being unfilial. Not only that, she ran to the hospital to berate , making the hospital helpless. They had to give an extended leave and asked to co back to work after so ti.”
Shen Xiu couldn’t hold back her tears, “I couldn’t bear it anymore. My ho beca unbearable with those three troublemakers, no classes so no salary. Yet those three just stretched out their hands for clothes and opened their mouths for als, constantly asking for money to buy this and that, even seemingly planning to squat there indefinitely. It’s supposedly my own ho, yet every day they criticized everything, despising this and that, wanting to eat different things at different tis. When Jiahui wasn’t ho because of work, they caused even more trouble. Without a mont of peace, how am I supposed to live like this?” (To be continued.
