Jiang He’s gaze was filled with surprise.
He saw that on the track inside the park below, a young boy was lying face down.
The boy’s entire body was stained with blood, his clothes torn apart as though ripped by a wild beast, riddled with tears that exposed bleeding wounds.
Next to the boy stood a tricolor fat cat. It was none other than Xiao Mi, the calico cat raised by Du Lingwei at the fire station. Its claws and fangs still carried traces of blood.
At first glance, this scene looked exactly like a beast attacking a human.
But Jiang He imdiately sensed sothing was off.
The calico cat wasn’t facing the boy—it had its back to him. Its vertical pupils stared intently at the park’s lamppost, its arched spine bristling, fur standing on end, and its throat growling in warning, as though confronting so invisible presence.
Rather than an attack, it was clearly protecting the boy.
However, when Jiang He looked in the direction of its confrontation, he saw nothing, and sensed no presence at all.
Invisible?
Jiang He opened his mouth and spoke.
“See Through.”
A gleam of light enveloped his pupils.
Looking again, he finally spotted the anomaly.
Above the lamppost’s shadow perched a bat-like silhouette.
It had a burly body, sharp claws and fangs, and a pair of enormous bat wings. Like so kind of demon, it squatted effortlessly atop the lamppost, almost as if it did not exist.
It licked the blood from its claws, its crimson eyes gazing downward with hunger and greed.
Jiang He froze. “Is this a bat-type exotic beast?”
“It isn’t an exotic beast.” Old Jiang shook his head. “I’ve never seen such a thing before.”
The fact that Old Jiang had never seen it ant it did not belong to the “Exotic Beast Rampage” tiline.
As for whether it was a product of a transcendent’s talent in the “Transcendent Rampage” tiline, or sothing else entirely...
Jiang He leaned toward the latter.
At this mont, staring at the monster, he felt as though he were gazing into an image from the “Demon Abyss.”
“So this is a ‘Possibility’…”
While Jiang He fell into silence, Old Jiang’s voice reached him.
He asked, “Want to take care of it for you?”
Hearing this, Jiang He looked downward.
The bat demon had moved. Its body turned into shadow, as though the lamplight had been devoured, and it pounced toward the calico cat and the boy on the ground.
Just then, the calico cat’s body swelled, transforming into the size of a tricolored tiger. With its right paw, it ripped through the air, striking hard against the shadow.
The shadow was forcefully repelled, the bat demon retreating to the lamppost once more, glaring in fury.
The calico cat shrank back to its normal size, now bearing several new wounds.
Seeing their clash, Jiang He flashed forward, leaping from Old Jiang’s back. “No need, I’ll handle it myself.”
He descended from the sky, locking his gaze on the bat demon. Flas flickered in his right hand.
Using the lingering effect of Step on Air, he stomped forcefully in midair, propelling his body downward like a cot.
At the sa ti, he spoke.
“Instant.”
This was not the trump card Spell Word reserved by White Crane, but a degraded version Jiang He had crafted himself by imitating the six Spell Words White Crane had left behind.
Though inferior to White Crane’s version, under the enhancent of the World Destroyer’s skills, it could still unleash considerable power.
Like now—his speed doubled, turning him into a fiery teor crashing down on the lamppost’s shadow.
The blazing fla of Jiang He’s right hand poured without reservation into the shadow!
The bat demon shrieked in a distorted scream.
A strange lody echoed in the night.
But Jiang He quickly sensed sothing wrong.
Through the “See Through” perspective, his fist had already smashed into the bat demon’s face, flas engulfing it. With fire of this strength, it should have been reduced to ashes.
After all, it seed to be no stronger than an E-rank creature, while Jiang He carried countless enhancents.
Yet in the real perspective, his flas were only entangled with the shadow, forming a bizarre coexistence.
Could this shadow be weakening his flas?
Jiang He recalled how, when Xiao Mi had just struck it, the bat demon had appeared enraged but had not actually been injured. His eyes narrowed.
If that’s the case, then let’s stack more damage!
Coincidentally, Jiang He wanted to test his new skill—
He had grinded two days at ho, raising his 【Word Keeper】 profession to level 16. The gains included not only eight Word-Spirit slots—
But also fifteen skill points to unlock new abilities!
This was a B-rank profession—the 【Word Keeper】’s professional skill!
At this mont, Jiang He activated the skill he had just allocated.
【Lingering Echo lv3 — Active Skill: Repeats the last used buff-type Word-Spirit, stacking its effect. Each repetition consus the Spell Word again, with ntal consumption doubled. (Current max repetitions: 3)】
“Instant” x2!
Quadruple speed!
Jiang He’s body shot forward, speed surging again like a blazing teor streaking past the bat demon.
As flas erupted, he stepped on air once more, twisted midair, and triggered another Spell Word.
“Instant” x3!
Eight tis speed!
He blasted the bat demon again, an explosion of intense flas lighting the night sky!
This was a combo move—a chain explosion!
Jiang He felt an intoxicating thrill from the speed, stepping on air once again, his grin brimming with excitent.
Again!
“Instant” x4!
Sixteen tis speed!!
BOOM!!
This ti a sonic boom erupted. Like a rocket, Jiang He shot straight at the bat demon, fist cocked—
But when he blinked, the monster was gone. In front of him was only the ground.
CRASH!!
The pavent shattered as Jiang He slamd in, climbing out of the pit with a soot-covered face, rubbing his sore nose.
Well… the “Instant” he had drawn only boosted speed, not reaction ti.
With only 80 points in physical strength, that speed had already exceeded his ability to adapt.
Clearly, this combo still needed improvent.
Thinking so, Jiang He raised his head toward the lamppost and frowned.
The shadow had thinned considerably, yet it persisted, still entwined with the flas.
Within it, the bat demon was reduced to skeletal remains by the burning, but it still wasn’t dead. Its grimacing face twisted hideously as it lunged at the boy on the ground.
Such tenacity was shocking.
Should he continue pouring fire until it was reduced to ashes?
Then Jiang He noticed Old Jiang observing from midair. His mind shifted.
He activated his Eraser talent, altering the texture of his right hand’s skin. With a step, he blocked in front of the plunging bat demon, thrusting out his hand—
As his skin touched the shadow, it was like light eting darkness—instantly, the shadow was erased.
With almost no effort, his hand pierced through the darkness, seized the bat demon’s head, and yanked it out—
Deprived of the shadow’s protection, the remaining flas surged over it at once, consuming it in a blaze until only ashes remained!
Jiang He muttered, “…Old Jiang, isn’t this talent badass?”
“Then try taking off the World Destroyer profession and say that again.” Old Jiang chuckled.
“ow…”
Sensing the danger had passed, the calico cat’s fur smoothed down. Its tail stood straight as it rubbed against Jiang He’s leg, purring sweetly.
Jiang He smiled as well, crouching to stroke the cat. “Good Xiao Mi.”
For so reason, ever since he had co to the fire station, Xiao Mi had always stuck close to him, unusually affectionate.
Even Du Lingwei was jealous of it.
Of course, Jiang He hadn’t forgotten about the injured boy nearby.
He reached out, intending to use a healing Spell Word to treat him.
Yet the mont he touched the boy, a bone-chilling cold surged into his hand, forcing him to recoil.
In shock, he watched as the boy turned over, revealing a face covered in eerie inscriptions and stained with blood.
“This is…”
“Don’t rush.” Old Jiang landed, his brows furrowing. “It wasn’t just that monster earlier…”
“The aura on this boy—that’s the true evil I sensed from the start.”
