Jian Dan’s hand trembled as she answered the phone. Hearing Lai Wei’s comforting words, she felt slightly at ease, "Weiwei, hurry up, I’m scared."
Lai Wei’s heart trembled, "Okay, I’ll be quick. You go ho and rest now. Send your address, and Hai En and I will head out imdiately, okay?"
Jian Dan replied with a hum, hung up, and quickly sent over the address.
After doing all this, she sat on a chair for a while before getting up and leaving. She hailed a cab outside, headed straight to the apartnt, and once ho, she went to her room and locked herself in. Her mind was in turmoil; she didn’t know what to think, and everything was a jumbled ss she couldn’t unravel.
She was just scared, overwheld by things she hadn’t experienced before, the unknown, all while recalling Bo Qin’s indifference, which nearly brought her to tears.
She had never been strong, and over the years, Bo Qin’s pampering had made her even less resilient. She had thought they could maintain this peaceful coexistence, but it was clear that it was just her own wishful thinking.
She tossed and turned, unable to sleep, and just then, she saw a ssage from ng Xue.
ng Xue: Little Jian Dan, are you coming to my wedding with Zhou Yao?
Jian Dan’s complicated feelings were slightly alleviated; she looked at the ssage in disbelief, checking it several tis before responding.
Jian Dan: No way, since when did you and Secretary Zhou get so close? You’re getting married already?
If she rembered correctly, the two of them used to mind their own business.
Not only that, but they always seed like they’d never interact again, she had witnessed that herself, so how were they suddenly getting married?
It seed ng Xue didn’t expect her to ask this. She sighed for a while before faintly smiling and replying.
ng Xue: Drunken missteps, and you know, pregnant, plus I’m not young anymore. Zhou Yao and I have known each other for a long ti and know each other well, so we thought getting married now is quite good. The child can’t wait, so we’ll have a simple gathering with friends and family for now, and have the wedding later.
The company is busy now, not only is Bo always busy, but we as secretaries are also busy. Now that I’m pregnant, my work is piling up on Zhou Yao, so I think all the botherso wedding preparations can wait. The child is the priority.
After reading ng Xue’s ssage, Jian Dan responded with an "Oh," then instinctively touched her own belly. Her fingers flew across the keys as she replied.
Jian Dan: I’ll be there, ng Xue, are you panicking about having a baby?
ng Xue: Not panicking. I wasn’t careful myself, but since I’m already pregnant, even if Zhou Yao said he didn’t want it, I probably wouldn’t get rid of it. It’s my flesh and blood; I can’t bear to part with it.
I can raise the child myself. It’s just Zhou Yao’s attitude surprising ; he seems... happy.
Recalling that day’s scene, ng Xue felt like laughing, and indeed, she did laugh, quite happily.
The joy in her laughter was infectious, softening a corner of Jian Dan’s heart as she thought about a stranger, a soft bundle, soon eting her, not knowing who it would resemble.
Jian Dan: Congrats, Sister ng Xue.
ng Xue: Congratulations to us both. I heard from Boss Bo that you’ll be back soon. Don’t hesitate when you do; let’s et for a al. Although my belly has grown a bit and it’s inconvenient, I still think it’s quite nice.
Jian Dan: Okay.
After chatting with ng Xue for a while, Jian Dan felt much better. She cald down her earlier tension and helplessness, wanting to call Lai Wei and tell her not to make the trip, but Lai Wei’s phone was off. She checked the ti; she had chatted with ng Xue for over an hour, surprised at how quick Lai Wei was.
She got up, washed her face, and then called the supermarket to deliver fresh groceries.
After arranging the groceries in the fridge, she finally felt at ease, filled with energy. Like ng Xue said, there’s nothing one can’t do. She herself could also raise the child well.
But probably Uncle Qin would find her disgusting too.
The thought of the word ’disgusting’ alone choked her, her whole being rejecting it. She didn’t want to leave such an impression, but it seed inevitable.
She sat quietly on the sofa, sleeping when tired, cooking when hungry.
