Finn Prescott squeezed Crystal Rhodes’s hand, but his dark gaze was fixed on Nina Wynn.
His gaze held a mix of admiration and sothing inscrutable.
Nina Wynn took a step back and glanced up at Finn Prescott before quickly lowering her head, hiding behind Warner Zimrman as if terrified.
Seeing her act this way, the profound look in his eyes intensified.
Crystal Rhodes didn’t notice the subtle interaction between them and cried out in pain as Finn Prescott squeezed her hand. "That hurts!"
Finn Prescott flung her hand away. His gaze shifted from Nina Wynn, but he didn’t even glance at Crystal Rhodes as he said coldly, "If you’re going to throw a tantrum, at least be mindful of the setting."
Crystal Rhodes’s face flushed red. She shot Nina Wynn a vicious glare, then turned and followed Finn Prescott.
Nina Wynn watched them leave, a flash of coldness in her eyes.
Just then, Warner Zimrman tugged at her clothes. "This way."
Nina Wynn turned, her head bowed, and whispered, "Miss Zimrman, about what just now... will you tell my uncle?"
Warner Zimrman’s face was expressionless. "I didn’t hear anything, and I saw nothing."
Nina Wynn grabbed Warner Zimrman’s arm and whispered, "Miss Zimrman, your dress is beautiful today, and your hair looks wonderful too. You look so young and elegant."
Warner Zimrman’s face remained impassive. Without a word, she led Nina Wynn to a less conspicuous spot and had her sit down.
The Finch family’s engagent banquet was a grand affair. The guests were almost all prominent figures from Elysian City, and the hall was a sea of lavish attire.
Nina Wynn cared little for such things.
She could tell this was Chloe Joyce and Adrian Finch’s engagent party, but she didn’t understand why Caleb Rhodes had insisted she attend.
But Caleb Rhodes was always ticulous; no one could ever discern his motives until the very last mont.
So, she still felt a sliver of anticipation.
After sitting for a short while, Nina Wynn stood up and headed for the restroom. When Warner Zimrman moved to follow, Nina looked at her with pleading eyes. "Miss Zimrman, I saw a friend. I just want to say a few words. I promise I’ll be back in five minutes. Can I go by myself?"
Warner Zimrman sighed almost imperceptibly, her expression still neutral. "Just five minutes. If you’re not back after five minutes, I’ll co looking for you."
Nina Wynn said quickly, "Miss Zimrman, you’re the kindest Miss Zimrman in the whole world."
With that, she hurried away.
Before she even reached the restroom door, a hand clamped down on the back of her neck, and she was yanked into a nearby room.
Nina Wynn’s brow furrowed. "Let go!"
Finn Prescott closed the door and lit a cigarette, then gave her a careful look from head to toe. "Tsk. Nice dress. It looks good on you."
Nina Wynn smoothed her hair and said deliberately, "You squeezed Crystal Rhodes so hard you hurt her. Don’t you feel the least bit sorry for her?"
Finn Prescott squinted at her for a mont, then suddenly pinned her against the wall. He lowered his voice. "Don’t tell that wasn’t on purpose. You think I didn’t hear what you said to her?"
Nina Wynn’s expression faltered, and she lowered her head. "You misheard."
Finn Prescott tilted her chin up, raising an eyebrow. "Does Caleb Rhodes know you’re not as docile as you pretend to be?"
Nina Wynn fell silent.
The rough pad of Finn Prescott’s thumb brushed against her delicate cheek. He clicked his tongue. "You were just trying to get my attention, weren’t you? Don’t use such crude tactics next ti. It makes you look foolish."
He left one thing unsaid. ’The way she kept stealing glances at him earlier was also pretty cute.’
Nina Wynn lowered her gaze and muttered, "You’re the foolish one!"
As she spoke, she swatted his hand away. "You looked even more foolish when you were knocked out and getting dragged away!"
Finn Prescott raised an eyebrow. "I didn’t realize you had such a sharp tongue. And whose fault was it that I got knocked out? Nina Wynn, you owe several favors now. So, tell , how are you going to pay back?"
At that, Nina Wynn took a wary step back, looking up at him. "You can na your price, but let remind you, I don’t have much money. If you ask for too much, I won’t be able to pay!"
Finn Prescott ground his teeth and stared at her for a few seconds, his gaze holding an emotion that was difficult to decipher.
He suddenly stepped forward, planting his hands on the wall on either side of her and trapping her against his chest. In a low, hoarse voice, he said, "How about you offer yourself to ?"
Nina Wynn assud this was just the rich young master toying with her. She pushed him away and retorted just as playfully, "Sure. First, dump Crystal Rhodes. Then, co and propose to properly. After that, I’ll give myself to you."
Finn Prescott clicked his tongue. He stroked his chin as he studied Nina Wynn for a mont. "That’s not a bad idea."
Nina Wynn pulled out her phone and glanced at it, then said quietly, "Roy is recovering. Thank you for your help the other day."
Finn Prescott raised his eyebrows. "The little fella got lucky. That friend of mine isn’t usually in the country. If we hadn’t run into him by chance, I wouldn’t have been able to save it either."
Nina Wynn said, "In any case, thank you. I’ll treat you to dinner soti to repay you. I have to go now, I only have five minutes."
Finn Prescott frowned. "Caleb Rhodes keeps you on a tight leash. My brother says there’s sothing not quite right between you two. Nina Wynn, be honest with , is there sothing going on between you and him?"
Nina Wynn stiffened for a mont before forcing a casual tone. "Your brother keeps a tight leash on you, too. Does that an there’s sothing not right between you two?"
Finn Prescott frowned and said no more.
In no mood to argue with him further, Nina Wynn pulled open the door and walked out.
As she was coming out of the restroom, she had just reached the corner when she saw Caleb Rhodes striding toward her.
Even from a distance, she could sense the bone-chilling aura emanating from him.
The oppressive weight of his presence made her tremble, even with the crowd between them.
Before she could even process what was happening, Caleb Rhodes seized her wrist in a powerful grip.
A savage glint appeared in his eyes. Without waiting for her to speak, he dragged her into a nearby lounge.
The mont the door closed, Caleb Rhodes seized her by the chin.
His chest heaved as he fought to suppress his rage, glaring down at her. "Who did you just go to see?"
His grip was imnse. Nina felt as if her jaw would break, and she hissed in pain. "It hurts! Uncle, let go!"
From the landing of the second-floor staircase, Caleb Rhodes had seen it with his own eyes: Finn Prescott and Nina Wynn entering this hallway, one after the other. A few minutes later, they had erged the sa way.
’A few minutes. That was more than enough ti for plenty to happen!’
He stared at Nina Wynn’s small face. The very thought that she might have been having a secret tryst with Finn Prescott made him want to snap her delicate jaw.
"Speak! Who did you see!"
Nina was in too much pain to speak, able only to claw at his fingers.
After clawing at his hand a few tis to no avail, she could only look up at him with tears welling in her eyes. "N-no one... I..."
The next second, his mouth crashed down on her parted lips, his tongue forcefully invading.
He bit her lips brutally, almost hard enough to break the skin.
Nina Wynn gasped in pain and reached up to push him away.
But to her shock, he spun her around and slamd her against the door.
The next second, with a loud RIP, her cocktail dress was torn open, exposing her entire smooth back to the air.
