Elena’s POV

Marcus stood frozen between Damien and , his mind clearly struggling to process what had just unfolded before him. The confusion written across his features made it obvious that accepting this reality was proving difficult for him.

"Damien. The military forces are closing in on our territories. Retract your fangs." I commanded firmly.

Damien’s intense gaze swept over , conducting a thorough assessnt to ensure I remained unhard. Only after confirming my safety did his canines disappear back into his gums. He stepped away from the vehicle with deliberate movents.

The car door slamd with enough force to echo through the quiet street. Damien strode past Marcus without acknowledgnt, climbing the steps to reach on the covered porch.

"Are you injured in any way?" His voice carried genuine concern.

"No. He caused no harm." I provided the reassurance he sought.

"I deployed surveillance teams to monitor your territory and the educational institution near your pack lands." Marcus called out from his position beside the vehicle below us.

"Ah, those reconnaissance operatives. They provided quite entertaining sport. Particularly when I had to evade them between classes." Amusent colored my tone.

"She developed impressive evasion skills as ti progressed." Damien added with obvious pride.

"You attended that institution?" Marcus’s question held surprise.

"You were aware of my educational aspirations. This arrangent allowed to pursue them without your constant supervision." I directed my response toward Marcus.

"And the two of you have ford a partnership?" Marcus pressed.

"She belongs to as my destined mate and serves as Luna to my pack. My wolves have embraced her completely and hold her in high regard. You possess no authority in this matter. Any attempt to detain her here would result in council intervention. I believe forcibly separating mates carries a death sentence." Damien’s declaration carried unmistakable nace.

"The situation remains complicated. His marital status, rember." I reminded him.

"Indeed. How are those dostic arrangents progressing?" Damien inquired, though his expression remained hostile toward Marcus.

I finished the last of my cigarette and moved toward the entrance. Damien followed closely while Marcus trailed behind as we entered the main living area.

A prominent wedding photograph dominated the space above the fireplace, showcasing Viviana in an elaborate gown that defied good taste. The dress combined white and pink in a gaudy display, overloaded with excessive embellishnts and unnecessary decorative elents.

Her makeup appeared so heavily applied it resembled a mask, while her artificial nails extended to such impractical lengths that basic tasks would have proven impossible. Soone would have needed to assist her with cutting food during als.

My attention shifted to Marcus in the photograph, noting his complete absence of joy or satisfaction. A brief mont of sympathy touched , though it dissipated rapidly when the distinctive sound of stiletto heels against marble flooring announced an approaching presence.

"Wonderful." I muttered with resignation as I turned to face the entrance.

Viviana halted abruptly upon reaching the doorway, her expression transforming to shock when she discovered standing in her living room.

"Why is that worthless oga vagrant contaminating my ho?" Viviana’s voice dripped with venom.

"You will refer to my mate using her proper title of Luna. No lesser form of address will be tolerated." Damien’s warning carried deadly seriousness.

"Luna? You hold the position of Luna?" Disbelief saturated her words.

"While I can observe that you clearly do not. Five years of marriage between you two, yet neither of you bears a mating mark. That speaks volus about your relationship." My observation struck its intended target.

"I have business elsewhere." Viviana announced, spinning on her heels and departing as quickly as she had arrived.

"Where is your mother currently?" Damien inquired softly.

"She remains upstairs resting. I spent ti with her earlier before she fell asleep." I explained.

"What troubles her?" His concern was evident.

"The grief from losing my father has finally overwheld her defenses." I admitted.

"I deeply regret her suffering." Damien offered genuine sympathy.

"Thank you. I want her to et you when she awakens." The request felt important to make.

"Absolutely. I would be honored." His agreent ca without hesitation.

"Could we possibly redirect our attention to more pressing matters?" Marcus interjected with obvious impatience.

"What specifically?" I asked.

"The approaching conflict. Military intelligence has located our pack territories. They are mobilizing for systematic elimination operations." Marcus’s announcent carried grave implications.

"This threat is actually materializing?" Damien sought confirmation.

"Absolutely. The abandoned appearance of this area results from everyone seeking concealnt from military forces, surveillance drones, and their advanced detection equipnt." I elaborated on the current situation.

The weight of Marcus’s revelation settled over us like a heavy blanket. The peaceful facade of our supernatural world was crumbling as human forces prepared to wage war against our kind. The implications stretched far beyond personal relationships and pack politics.

The military possessed resources and technology that could prove devastating against even the strongest werewolf communities. Their systematic approach suggested careful planning and intelligence gathering that had gone undetected for far too long.

Our conversation had shifted from personal matters to survival itself. The luxury of relationship drama and territorial disputes seed insignificant when faced with potential extinction. Every pack would need to unite against this common threat or face destruction individually.

The comfortable illusion of safety we had maintained was dissolving rapidly, replaced by the harsh reality of an enemy that viewed us as nothing more than targets to be eliminated.
