Elena’s POV
"Yeah. They all believe it." Julian confird.
"When do I get to et them?" The question left my lips before I could stop it.
"Why would you want to do that?" His tone shifted, becoming more guarded.
"I think I deserve that much. And I deserve to know exactly why you think I’m so damn prophet." The words ca out sharper than I intended.
Julian’s entire deanor changed. He started shifting uncomfortably, his fingers drumming against the stone surface beneath him. The idea of eting his family clearly made him nervous, but I wasn’t about to let this go.
If they truly believed I possessed so special ability, then I had every right to face them and demand answers. I wasn’t going to be kept in the dark about sothing that apparently concerned my own destiny.
"I’ll need to discuss it with them first." His response was carefully asured.
"Well, you better make it quick. I don’t have ti to waste on this ridiculous theory of yours." My patience was wearing thin.
"You really don’t think there’s a werewolf war coming?" He pressed.
"Of course there’s going to be conflict. There always is. Alphas are constantly at each other’s throats, making threats, plotting to destroy rival packs. It’s just another day in our world." I shrugged, trying to appear nonchalant.
"That sounds like a terrible way to exist." He observed.
"Oh really? And you’re telling that in two hundred and eighty years, your kind hasn’t faced any challenges? No other species trying to eliminate you? Not even the werewolves that made this treaty necessary in the first place?" I challenged him.
"We’ve had our share of conflicts. But nothing like what we’re witnessing now. Werewolf packs across the entire country are preparing for battle."
"What kind of battle?" My curiosity was piqued despite my skepticism.
"That’s exactly the issue. We have no idea what they’re preparing to fight over." His frustration was evident.
I pushed myself up from the rock and climbed down, my feet hitting the forest floor with a soft thud. My eyes swept through the trees surrounding us. Ti was running short, and I needed to return soon. There was already a chance that patrol units had detected my scent trail leading away from pack territory.
This eting was supposed to be brief, but it had stretched on far longer than anticipated. All because he had dropped this prophet bombshell on . It was the most absurd thing I had ever heard.
I found myself at a loss for words. I didn’t know how to respond to Julian, and I wasn’t sure what I would even say to his family if this eting actually happened.
But this prophecy concept had to originate sowhere, and I needed to understand what information they possessed.
Without warning, a vicious snarl erupted from just a few feet away, making leap backward and whirl around to face a massive black wolf.
The creature shifted seamlessly back to human form, revealing Damien standing before us.
"What the hell is your problem? You nearly gave a heart attack!" I shouted at him.
"What are you doing out here with this bloodsucker?" Damien’s voice was low and dangerous, his teeth clenched.
"I needed to ask him about so treaty he made with my forr pack." I tried to keep my explanation simple.
"How exactly do you two know each other?"
"I honestly don’t know. He just appeared in the trailer one night when I was there by myself. He only shows up occasionally to deliver these cryptic warnings like so weird fortune teller." I gestured toward Julian dismissively.
"Stay the hell off my territory and away from my people, parasite." Damien’s growl was filled with pure hatred as he addressed Julian.
"I never intended to create more problems for you. I apologize. I had no idea she would end up seeking refuge with you." Julian’s voice carried genuine regret.
"Hold on. Do you two actually know each other?" The pieces weren’t adding up.
"He’s the vampire scum who stole my mate."
Damien’s growl intensified, and I stared at Julian in complete shock.
Well, it appeared that Julian’s chances of introducing to his family had just beco significantly more complicated. Especially if he didn’t survive this encounter.
The tension in the air was thick enough to cut with a knife. Damien’s muscles were coiled like a spring, ready to attack at any mont. His eyes had shifted to that dangerous amber color that ant his wolf was barely contained beneath the surface.
Julian, to his credit, didn’t back down, but I could see the wariness in his posture. He was prepared for a fight, even though he seed reluctant to engage in one.
"This is just perfect." I muttered under my breath. "Of all the vampires in the world, I had to get mixed up with the one who has history with you."
"More than history." Damien’s voice was barely controlled. "He destroyed everything I cared about."
The forest around us seed to hold its breath, waiting to see how this confrontation would play out. Birds had stopped chirping, and even the wind had died down to an eerie stillness.
I found myself caught between two supernatural beings with apparently deadly history between them, still no closer to understanding this prophecy business, and running out of ti before my absence would be noticed back at the pack.
This day had taken a turn I definitely hadn’t anticipated when I decided to sneak out for answers.
