Marcus’s POV
The satisfaction I felt after sentencing Victor to a decade behind bars was imnse. I had announced to the entire pack that he faced charges for sexual assault, caught red-handed by one of my warriors. We kept the victim’s identity sealed to protect their privacy. Without that detail, the pack celebrated my decision wholeheartedly.
There was no way I would let Victor escape punishnt for what he did to Elena. However, Viviana’s sudden engagent announcent completely blindsided .
I had explicitly told her we needed to keep this quiet for now. She clearly didn’t give a damn about my wishes. She couldn’t contain her excitent about becoming the pack’s future Luna.
Then ca the party. I never consented to any celebration. She cornered completely. She would pay for this once everyone cleared out.
My eyes found Elena at the back of the gathering, devastation written across her features.
Every instinct scread at to rush over and explain everything. I wanted to reveal the real reasons behind all these decisions.
She understood the situation with Viviana’s uncle and the political complications, but she remained in the dark about everything else.
Jett stood beside her, offering comfort and support.
A low growl began building in my chest.
Viviana approached and seized my hand, pressing her palm against my chest. She was close enough to hear my threatening sound, and she gazed up at with those supposedly innocent eyes. But I saw through her act now. I recognized her for what she truly was - a manipulative scher who would destroy anyone to get what she wanted. She always had.
I should have been the one consoling Elena, assuring her that everything would work out. Instead, she spun around and disappeared before I could reach her.
More pack mbers arrived, and Viviana grabbed my hand, dragging around the packhouse where she had already stationed workers to prepare for this celebration.
Had she orchestrated this entire event without my knowledge?
"Hugo. What the hell is going on?" I demanded, approaching my Beta.
"She claid you two were engaged and wanted a party as soon as she returned to the pack today. She ordered to start preparations. You seed distracted all day, so it was simple to organize this without you noticing," Hugo explained with a grave expression.
"You don’t seem thrilled about this situation," I observed.
"I’m not a damn event coordinator. But she apparently thinks otherwise. I’m your Beta. Could you please clarify that to her?" Hugo requested.
"Don’t worry. I’ll handle this," I assured him.
"What about Elena?" he whispered.
"I need to tell her everything. She has the right to know the complete truth," I said.
"Alpha. She could be in danger if she learns what’s really happening," Hugo warned.
"I understand the risks. But I’m out of options. She witnessed Viviana’s announcent out there."
"Damn. Elena has really affected you. I knew you wouldn’t be able to maintain that emotional distance you always claid you’d keep," Hugo said with a knowing smirk.
"The situation has beco far more complicated than that," I admitted.
Hugo studied with suspicion. "I spent last night with her," I confessed.
He looked at the way a disappointed father would regard his wayward child. Genuine disappointnt filled his expression.
"I know the entire pack despises Elena and her mother, but we both understand it’s complete garbage. They don’t deserve this treatnt. And now you’re playing gas with her emotions like so heartless bastard. If you spent the entire night with her, she knows exactly what that ans. I wouldn’t be surprised if you just completely shattered her," Hugo said.
"I’m aware. I have to find her imdiately," I said, turning to leave.
I began walking away when Viviana rushed over and grabbed my arm.
"Where do you think you’re going? This is our engagent celebration. You’re not leaving," she demanded.
"Who do you think you are? I specifically told you I didn’t want anyone knowing about the engagent yet," I snarled through clenched teeth.
"If you ever speak to like that again, you can forget about my uncle’s alliance," Viviana threatened.
"Are you seriously blackmailing right now?" I asked.
"Label it however you want. But I will ensure your life becos a living nightmare and your pack doesn’t survive the year if you do anything to sabotage this arrangent. You know exactly how many allies my uncle possesses. They’ll all eagerly help destroy you and your pack. You’re not particularly popular among the other Alphas, Marcus," she said, smoothing down her dress while speaking. She acted like we were having a pleasant chat, but the underlying nace was unmistakable.
