The three major families of Suichuan Immortal City: the Songs mainly managed the elixir business, the Ges specialized in the selling of magic artifacts, and the Qis dominated the talisman trade.

However, unlike the Songs and the Ges, the Qis aggressively monopolized the talisman market, consistently suppressing the talisman businesses of loose cultivators and small families.

Originally, talisman crafting was a relatively easy cultivation skill to learn, but due to the overt and covert actions of the Qis, there were very few cultivators selling talismans in the Suichuan Immortal City market, and those who did mostly offered unconventional talismans.

Only the Hundred Treasures Pavilion was able to compete with the Qi family’s shops to so degree, albeit the prices of the talismans in the pavilion were not very competitive.

This caused the Qi family’s reputation among the lower tier cultivators to be rather poor.

"It’s all Fu Nian’s fault." Fu Nian also felt a bit embarrassed; he had forgotten all about the poison when he left.

"Never mind, how are you now? Are your injuries healed?"

Yu Qingtan couldn’t be bothered to argue further.

"They’re healed. I hid so things before I took action. After I regained about 60-70% of my strength at the Xue family, I went to retrieve them. It was quite an effort to remove those chains."

Fu Nian wiped his storage bag at his waist, took out a talisman and a jade slip, and placed them on the zither table.

"Here is a Second Stage low-quality Escape Talisman and a Soul Cleansing Technique spell, as an apology to the young lady. Ten years ago, my Fu family accidentally obtained a legacy of the Talisman Dao, along with this Soul Cleansing Technique and the Purification of Soul. Unfortunately, the news leaked, my Fu family was attacked and destroyed by the Qis, and I was the only one who escaped."

Fu Nian spoke very calmly, but his tightly clenched hands revealed that he was anything but calm inside.

"I see."

Yu Qingtan accepted the Escape Talisman and the jade slip with the Soul Cleansing Technique.

Generally, heritage cultivation techniques and spells do not have restrictions such as being able to be taught only to one person or not to be spread, and they can be imprinted. However, imprinted copies would inherit these restrictions.

This jade slip with the Soul Cleansing Technique was likely imprinted from the heritage jade slip.

"You must also understand the Escape Talisman. This Soul Cleansing Technique is a rare Soul Dao spell; one needs to possess Divine Sense to cultivate it, and the difficulty of cultivation is extrely high. I have yet to even grasp the basics. However, the Purification of Soul can aid in cultivating the Soul Cleansing Technique and, when mastered to higher proficiency, can slowly strengthen the Divine Sense. Unfortunately, I’m not versed in music, so I hope it will be useful in the hands of Miss Qing Tan."

Fu Nian sat back down next to the table and said.

"Then I thank you, Young Master Fu."

Yu Qingtan was also very interested in the Soul Cleansing Technique.

"May I ask what are Young Master Fu’s plans going forward?"

"The vendetta of clan destruction cannot go unavenged! However, considering the strength of the Qi family, I plan to lay low for a while, improve my strength, and wait for the right opportunity."

Fu Nian gripped the teacup tightly, finished speaking, and then downed his drink in one gulp.

After listening, Yu Qingtan said, "Then Qing Tan shall play the ’Purification of Soul’ for Young Master Fu!"

She had intended to advise Fu Nian not to be blinded by hatred to the point of recklessness, but it seed unnecessary now.

Upon finishing, her fingers lightly plucked the strings, and the lody wafted through the air.

Fu Nian closed his eyes.

And listened in silence.

...

Outside the Suichuan Immortal City, within a certain mountain valley,

a small sect was situated.

Right now, outside the valley, it was densely surrounded by demonic beasts.

There were Two-tailed Leopards with bodies filled with black spots.

There were Fla Wolves with grey coats and a tuft of red fur on their foreheads.

There were nine-foot-tall, muscular Strong Apes.

There were Saber-Toothed Tigers with ’king’ shaped markings on their foreheads and protruding fangs.

And there were Sky-Rending Eagles soaring through the sky, with wings sharp like blades and talons like hooks.

There were also many types of demonic beasts, such as Spotted Pigs, Long-horned Deer, and Rogue Rabbits.

These demonic beasts, so of which should have been competitors or even predator and prey, were not engaging in any significant conflicts with each other at this ti.

Instead, they were attacking the protective formation of the valley in an orderly manner.

Inside the valley, the sect leader’s face was filled with bitterness as he watched the formation on the verge of collapse.

"Sect Leader, I can’t hold on much longer. Has the reinforcent from the Immortal City arrived yet?"

A disciple, while injecting spiritual power into the formation, shouted to the sect leader who was also operating the formation.

"Hold on a little longer, the reinforcent will arrive soon,"

the sect leader said with a resolute expression, loudly encouraging the disciple.

But in his heart, he didn’t hold much hope.

The demonic beasts had co too quickly, catching him off guard.

They were just a small sect with only him and the great elder as foundation establishnt cultivators, occupying a minor spirit vein for cultivation.

Today, the demonic beasts suddenly launched a major assault, with no less than ten major demons of the second stage.

Before they were completely surrounded, he had just enough ti to use the only escape talisman he had to allow the most talented disciple to flee and to send for help from Suichuan Immortal City.

"They ca too fast. Could it be that the beast tide is upon us?" the sect leader sighed inwardly. It was doubtful they could hold out until the reinforcents arrived.

"I regret harboring any hope for luck!" the sect leader lanted in his heart. Previously, when the number of demonic beasts near the sect increased, the Immortal City had indeed predicted the possibility of a beast tide and advised cultivators near the Immortal City to move closer to it as much as possible.

Unfortunately, the sect leader couldn’t let go of the sect’s hard-earned foundation and had not made a firm decision in ti. By the ti he thought of leaving, it was already too late.

With a "Boom" sound, the formation’s light screen shattered.

The sect’s protective formation, capable of withstanding attacks from late-stage foundation establishnt cultivators, was finally breached under the intensive assault of the demonic beasts.

"Kill!" Wiping the blood from the corner of his mouth, the sect leader drew a precious sword and several talismans, shouted loudly, and charged at the demonic beasts.

Seeing this, the other disciples also showed determination, using their skills to attack the demonic beasts.

In such a situation, the human race could not hope to surrender for a chance of survival.

Demonic beasts’ flesh was beneficial to the cultivation of humans, and the sa was true vice-versa.

For most cultivators, stepping onto the path of cultivation ant being prepared to et their demise soday.

We cultivators, why spare a battle.

"Kill!"

Unfortunately, they were ultimately too few against the masses.

The hundred cultivators who charged for battle were swiftly engulfed by the horde of demonic beasts.

A streak of blood in the sky marked the normally tranquil valley with a tinge of desolation.

Similar incidents were unfolding in various markets, small family clans, and other areas where cultivators gathered near Suichuan Immortal City.

Fortunately, the Immortal City had issued an early warning, and approximately seventy to eighty percent of these cultivators had already temporarily moved into Suichuan Immortal City.

So cultivators who managed to escape also brought the ominous news back to Suichuan Immortal City.

The loose cultivators living in the shantytowns outside the city, a small portion of whom had not yet rented housing within the city with borrowed money.

Now they also rushed into the city in droves.

As for the calls for help from the smaller forces, Suichuan Immortal City did not pay any attention.

According to the findings of the investigatory cultivators sent out by the city, the scale of this beast tide had already exceeded expectations, and it was uncertain whether the city itself could withstand it, let alone spare any forces to rescue them.

Even Ouyang Wenjian, upon receiving the investigative results, imdiately dispatched emissaries to Sunset Gate and Tianxiang Valley for aid.

He then fully activated the city’s protective formation and imposed a temporary control order within the city.
