Chapter 87: 087 Just kidding

Chen Xu woke up and stared at the ceiling for a while before quickly reclaiming the familiar feeling.

Strictly speaking, he only spent a little over two months in the dream realm, and the remaining nearly four months were spent in a coma.

Of course, the system very humanely skipped over the ti he was comatose.

He grabbed his phone from beside the pillow and checked the ti—7:03 AM.

Stretching out, he sat up and after freshening up, he went to the kitchen where he looked at the shabby kitchen with so dissatisfaction.

He put on an apron he hadn’t used in a long while, grabbed a steel wool pad, squeezed so dish soap on it, and cleaned every corner of the kitchen.

Then, he began to boil water in a pot.

If there was one practical skill he gained from this trip in his dreams, it was the cooking skills he learned from 2003.

Neither the high-tech items nor the fundantal theoretical knowledge from the Knowledge Seed Program were of any use in changing his current situation.

But cooking skills were different; as the saying goes, “food is the god of the people.” Having good cooking skills wouldn’t make one filthy rich, but earning a small fortune wouldn’t be difficult.

After arriving at the second shelter, he seriously considered and realized that the most useful thing for him at this stage was the cooking skills of 2003. Thus, he started spending so ti each day learning from 2003.

Sadly, the ti was too short. From the mont he woke up to the Acid Ant Beast’s attack, there was only one month’s ti. He only learned a few dishes, which were far from systematic.

As for which dishes he learned, he couldn’t rember.

That damn anti-addiction system caused him now to have losses in many mories from the dream, especially the details.

He only rembered that he hadn’t learned much.

“If I could have learned for the full four months, not to ntion other things, opening a restaurant would definitely be enough.”

He felt regretful inside, but his hands didn’t stop. Holding a knife slightly longer than a fruit knife, he quickly chopped a tomato and added it to the boiling soup.

Soon, a bowl of steaming noodles was ready.

He picked up the chopsticks and tasted it; his face showed so dissatisfaction.

“I need to go to the supermarket after work today and buy so more spices.”

As a single young man living alone, he didn’t cook often, and the spices at ho were pitifully few—just salt and soy sauce, perhaps including Lao Gan Ma at most. He didn’t even have vinegar, let alone other spices.

This bowl of noodles had an egg, a ham sausage, and a leftover seasoning packet from a packet of pickled beef noodles from last ti. He didn’t even add green onions; how good could it taste?

Previously, he wasn’t very demanding about the taste of food.

Now, without realizing it, his palate had beco much pickier thanks to 2003. Plus, having learned so skills himself, his standards had risen quite a bit. If possible, he hoped to eat better.

“Right.”

He rembered sothing midway through eating, got up, went to his computer desk, and picked up a black-covered notebook. He continued eating while flipping through it.

The notebook contained work records from the half-month before he entered the dream, detailing what ti he went to which place, t with whom, and what work he did—all ticulously noted.

After returning from the dream last ti, he had nearly forgotten all about work-related matters because the mories were too distant, which scared him. So this ti, he had written this work record in advance.

Besides the past half-month’s events, the notebook also contained work schedules for the coming days.

With it, he wouldn’t have to worry about making mistakes at work after waking from the dream.

……

Chen Xu had finished his breakfast and reviewed his work journal; seeing that it was about ti, he left for work.

Having spent two months in a shelter, he now found the bustling streets filled with crowds and traffic liberating. The usual noises, which typically annoyed him, now seed pleasant to his ears.

The crowded bus appeared to him vibrant with life, and its lively atmosphere touched him deeply.

When he arrived at the company building, he spotted Dai Zixin from afar and rushed up to her, slapped her shoulder, and exclaid, “Morning!”

Waiting for her to turn around, the astonished expression on her face made him burst into laughter.

“What’s gotten into you so early in the morning?” Dai Zixin asked grumpily.

“Hehe.”

Dai Zixin looked at him suspiciously, “You’re not here to press for money, are you? I told you, I’ll transfer it as soon as I get my salary.”

“Why do you look so gloomy? Who upset you?”

Seeing her in a bad mood, Chen Xu was puzzled. In all the ti he had known her, she was always cheerful and hardly ever upset.

“I’ve lost followers,” Dai Zixin said, her face imdiately turned mournful, “In the past two weeks, since they noticed you weren’t in the live streams, my followers have been dropping, and now, it’s almost half gone, woo…”

Chen Xu said, “We’ve been busy these past two weeks, what could we do?”

Dai Zixin said gloomily, “If this continues, all the followers I’ve worked hard to accumulate will disappear.”

“Ah—I can’t take it anymore, maybe I should just quit.”

By then, they had almost reached the elevator, and upon hearing her words, the nearby people turned to look their way, several of whom were colleagues from their company.

Chen Xu looked at her in surprise, thinking how daring she was to say such a thing aloud in the company building.

Dai Zixin realized she had spoken out of turn and stamred, “I… I was just joking.”

Ding.

The elevator arrived.

Chen Xu patted her shoulder sympathetically and headed towards the elevator.

This elevator was full, and neither of them could get in, so they had to wait for the next one.

Dai Zixin said nervously, “Chen Xu, there were HR colleagues just now; they didn’t hear that, did they?”

Chen Xu responded, “What do you think?”

Dai Zixin’s face fell, “It’s over, what if it reaches Mr. Luo and the others?”

Just as Chen Xu was about to reply, he caught the sound of high heels clicking against the floor, a sound that wasn’t particularly clear in the sowhat noisy lobby. Yet, the distinct frequency made him instinctively look back.

Seven or eight ters away, Luo Xiyun, dressed in a white coat, was walking towards them. Their gazes briefly t in mid-air.

Chen Xu sighed inwardly, her indifference was consistent; every ti, it doused any enthusiasm that had just begun to kindle within him.

“Luo, Mr. Luo,” the normally confident Dai Zixin felt unusually nervous seeing her.

Luo Xiyun’s gaze swept over her face and she said, “Have you forgotten what was said last ti?”

“No, Mr. Luo,” Dai Zixin tried to explain, but Chen Xu pulled her aside.

Chen Xu, looking up at Luo Xiyun who was a bit taller than him in her high heels, made a decision in his heart and said, “I think the company policies aren’t all that inconsiderate, right?”

PS: Thanks to everyone who rewarded, the list is quite long so not naming everyone. Special thanks to Jiaijicheng, Personal Ear, Wei Wuhui, and Abandoned Ali for their generous rewards. Oh, and it’s almost Monday again, how about a few more tickets?
