Chapter 32: 032 New Departnt
“`
Very quickly, Chen Xu found himself in a bind, with no ti to think about anything else.
In reality, although only a night had passed, he had spent a whole six months in his dream. After such a long ti, being suddenly asked to continue work he had left unfinished six months ago would likely leave him bewildered.
Now, sitting in front of the computer, he didn’t know where to start.
“Oh right, the briefcase.”
He opened the briefcase, pulled out the contents, found a docunt, and carefully went through it, finally getting so ideas.
...
Then, he stuffed everything back into the briefcase. Picking up the mouse, he opened a certain docunt. He vaguely rembered that he habitually stored all his work materials there.
He spent the entire morning arduously familiarizing himself with these materials, slowly regaining his work state. He didn’t dare to ask others, as that would be too suspicious.
He barely made it to the lunch break. Old Tang invited him to go eat together.
They went to the restaurant they frequented, which was two streets away from the company.
Upon arriving at the store, Chen Xu rembered that the food there was pretty good and reasonably priced. They often ca here for lunch.
Neither Old Tang nor he liked ordering takeout, mainly because they weren’t willing to stay in the company all day. They took the opportunity during lunch to get so fresh air.
“Did sothing happen?”
After sitting down, Old Tang suddenly asked, “I’ve noticed you’ve been acting a bit strange these past two days.”
Chen Xu knew his odd behavior this morning couldn’t be hidden from a coworker he worked with every day, so he said, “It’s nothing, just feeling a little troubled inside.”
Saying this, he suddenly thought about changing jobs and figured he could ask Old Tang for so advice.
“Actually, I want to change jobs.”
“Why so suddenly?” Old Tang was quite surprised.
Chen Xu replied helplessly, “You know my situation in the company well. It’s been almost two years, and I’m still in the sa place. I feel like I can’t keep drifting along like this. I might as well change jobs. There might be better opportunities.”
Old Tang looked at him, thinking about his situation at the company, and couldn’t find words to persuade him otherwise, so he asked, “Have you made up your mind?”
“Mm.”
“Have a target?”
“Not yet, I’ll start by sending out resus. I don’t have many other requirents, as long as the pay is higher than now.”
As they talked, the food arrived, and the two ate and chatted.
Since Old Tang had more work experience, he offered a lot of useful advice.
After lunch, they returned to the company and didn’t bring up the matter again, as the resignation wasn’t sothing to let other colleagues know.
Just as they returned to the company, they happened to run into the delivery guy who ca to pick up a package. Chen Xu quickly handed him the Apple X phone. His high school desk mate was in the neighboring city and should receive the phone by tomorrow.
Once the money from selling the phone was in hand, it would greatly ease his economic pressure.
After the delivery guy left, Chen Xu picked up a cup, ready to brew so tea to refresh himself.
In front of the water dispenser, several female colleagues were gathered gossiping, and Chen Xu suddenly heard them ntion Luo Xiyun, only then realizing she was on a business trip.
He was a few levels below Luo Xiyun and naturally didn’t know her whereabouts. Hearing she was on a business trip gave him a sense of relief. At least he wouldn’t run into her in the next few days.
After filling his cup, he returned to his seat, leaning back in his chair, thinking and doodling on paper.
He was trying to recall things from his dream, hoping to find another opportunity to make money.
Until the break was almost over, he didn’t recall anything useful. Casually, he tore the scribbled paper, crumpled it into a ball, and tossed it to the wastebasket in the corner.
The ball of paper flew accurately into the basket.
He clapped his hands, turned his chair around, took a sip of tea, and revived his spirits, continuing to struggle with the docunts on the computer.
…
Afterward, Chen Xu returned to his usual mundane life, and it was only when his high school desk mate received the phone and transferred him nine thousand yuan that he got a delightful surprise.
The resus he sent out hadn’t received any responses yet.
A week later.
Just like before, he arrived at the company on ti. After a week of adjustnt, he finally regained the work state from six months ago.
Upon arriving at the company, he found his colleagues unusually gathered, discussing sothing.
He turned his head and asked Old Tang, “What’s going on? Did sothing big happen at the company?”
“I just got here too.” Old Tang shook his head, showing he didn’t know.
“You haven’t heard?” At that mont, Cai Hao, a colleague next to Chen Xu, leaned over and said worriedly, “There’s news that the company is planning to establish a marketing departnt. When that happens, it’s very likely our advertising departnt will be dissolved. Right now, Old Wang has gone to find out what’s going on. We don’t know the situation.”
Old Tang was surprised, “How did this happen so suddenly? There wasn’t a hint of this yesterday.”
Chen Xu also realized what this news implied. Their company didn’t produce products, and the newly established marketing departnt seed redundant with the advertising departnt’s functions.
When the ti ca, the new departnt would certainly be stripped of a lot of power, or more seriously, directly abolished. No matter which result, it wouldn’t be good news for the mbers of the advertising departnt.
However, for soone who was already prepared to resign, it didn’t affect him.
In fact, the company he worked for wasn’t a small one, with nearly ten large chain supermarkets, all located in comrcial centers.
Including the employees of those large supermarkets, the company had over two thousand employees, a classic large enterprise.
As the advertising departnt of the headquarters, it nominally managed the promotion of all the stores.
However, in reality, each store had significant independence. Every ti there was a promotional activity, they did their own thing, at most sending a report up to notify, and the advertising departnt couldn’t intervene.
The reason was simple. The manager of each store was a local power. Nominally on par with the minister of the marketing departnt, they were actually more capable, earning more, and having a deeper background, not considering the advertising departnt at all.
Chen Xu had worked here for nearly two years, primarily doing summary reports. During the peak season, he was also transferred to the stores to run errands, which was truly unpleasant.
This was one reason he planned to resign. In such a traditional industry, without backing, the path for advancent was too narrow.
As for why the company wanted to set up a marketing departnt at this ti, he couldn’t figure it out. Either way, it had nothing to do with him.
The entire advertising departnt was in a bit of a panic that morning, and everyone was not focused on work.
Finally, the supervisor, Old Wang, returned with news, assuring that the advertising departnt wouldn’t be dissolved and no staffing cuts would occur. The new marketing departnt would handle online sales, and its functions didn’t overlap with those of the advertising departnt.
This finally reassured the employees.
“Chen Xu, co to my office for a mont.” After announcing the news, Old Wang called Chen Xu.
No way.
Chen Xu felt a bit frustrated. Every ti Old Wang called him to the office, it was never for anything good. “Could it be because of the recent poor performance, he wants to reprimand ?”
