Chapter 208: Headache Chapter 208: Headache Chen Xu had booked a table at a newly opened restaurant where the ambiance was quite nice. A piano sat in the middle of the room, with a young girl seated at it, playing a soothing lody that was a pleasure to listen to.
This was a Western restaurant. Actually, Chen Xu preferred Chinese food, but trying sothing different once in a while was fine. Luo Xiyun wasn’t picky and accepted both Chinese and Western dishes. Each ti they went out on a date, Chen Xu tried to take her to different places to enjoy a variety of dishes.
Sotis, when ordering food, it was quite interesting to hear her explain the origin and the way to eat a particular Western dish.
“You and your cousin seem to have a good relationship,” Chen Xu suddenly brought up their encounter at the airport.
Luo Xiyun, while browsing through the nu, replied, “Mm, I moved in with my grandmother during junior high. He was just in elentary school then. I lived there until university, watching him graduate to middle school. Before that, I always thought I was an only child and treated him like my own younger brother.”
“Why did your youngest aunt move abroad? With the current state of affairs in the United States, it can’t be easy, right?”
“Initially, my youngest aunt moved overseas due to differences in business philosophies. This ti she ca back to the country, she didn’t even visit my grandmother. She always felt my grandmother was partial…”
Chen Xu thought to himself, it was another wealthy family scuffle and changed the subject, “Does your youngest aunt have just one child?”
“She also has a daughter, one year younger than , who didn’t go with them abroad. Apparently, they had a big argunt over it.”
“Could it be she went to work for your uncle’s company?”
“Not exactly, she seems to have opened a teahouse. I’ve wanted to visit several tis but never managed to find the ti.”
Chen Xu keenly sensed sothing odd in her expression when she ntioned this cousin and asked, “You don’t like this cousin?”
Luo Xiyun shook her head and gazed at the cup on the table as if reminiscing, “She looks a lot like my mother, and people often said she resembled my mom more than I do. After my mom passed away, every ti I saw her, I was reminded of my mom and would get so sad that I’d hide away and cry. Not long after, my grandmother had her move back in with my youngest aunt.”
“Perhaps because of that incident, she’s held so grudge against . Since then, we’ve lost contact. It’s been a few years since we last t. Even during New Year’s, she doesn’t return to my grandmother’s house; we’ve never crossed paths.”
Chen Xu wanted to take this chance to learn more about her relatives to avoid accidentally offending them in the future.
He then inquired about her uncle’s family.
Luo Xiyun’s mother had two siblings: she was the eldest, followed by the uncle, with the youngest aunt being the youngest of the three.
Among them, her uncle only had one son, and her youngest aunt had one son and one daughter, which was not exactly a thriving lineage.
However, she ntioned that her uncle apparently had an illegitimate child elsewhere. Hearing this, Chen Xu knew that there would be no small troubles in her uncle’s household in the future.
Next, they ordered their al and shifted to other topics.
Soon, the food was served.
Chen Xu picked up his knife and fork, ready to start eating, when he suddenly heard her say, “Actually, my dad and my younger uncle are half-brothers—they share the sa father.”
He paused, baffled, stopping his motions; he hadn’t known this before.
“My dad lost his mother to illness when he was young. Later on, my grandfather remarried, and my younger uncle was born to that woman. From that point, my dad beca sowhat disregarded at ho.”
“After my grandfather passed away, according to his will, most of the estate was left to my younger uncle, and my dad received only a small portion. After my younger uncle died, all those assets went into that woman’s hands. My dad has always wanted to reclaim what belonged to the Luo Family.”
Only then did Chen Xu realize why Luo Zhenghai was so opposed to his relationship with Luo Xiyun. It was no surprise that he would suspect Yang Jinxia of eliminating her parents and brother to seize the family fortune. If he were in his shoes, he would harbor such suspicions as well.
Yet, there was one thing he couldn’t figure out, “How did your dad take back control of the Tianluo Group?” If Yang Jinxia had gotten most of the Luo Family’s fortune, how did it fall to Luo Zhenghai to control the Tianluo Group?
“The Luo Family always had its connections. My dad gained the support of so shareholders and beca the chairman of Tianluo Group. Moreover, the group didn’t start off as large as it is now; it beca truly powerful after a series of acquisitions and rgers, which also diluted Yang Jinxia’s shares.”
“It was then that Yang Jinxia’s grandmother was so angered that she vomited blood and was sent to the hospital, never to get up again. From that mont on, Yang Jinxia truly took control of Jinxiu Investnt, and after that, my dad never gained any advantage over her. This woman, she’s much more formidable than her grandmother ever was.”
Chen Xu had heard Yang Jinxia ntion her grandmother before, and it was clear that their relationship had been very deep. This ant there was a profound animosity between Yang Jinxia and Luo Zhenghai.
Could Yang Jinxia really let bygones be bygones?
He had no confidence in that outco whatsoever.
…
After dinner, Chen Xu drove Luo Xiyun ho, heading straight into the residential compound.
“I’ll walk you up,” he suggested, parking the car outside her apartnt building.
“No need, you should head back,” Luo Xiyun shook her head.
Chen Xu looked at her and said, “The three-month period has passed.”
Luo Xiyun’s face flushed red as she spat, “Is that all you ever think about?”
“I’m a man, it’s normal to think about it. You should be worried if I didn’t.”
“…” Luo Xiyun lowered her head and after a while spoke softly, “I still can’t quite accept what happened between you and that woman. I know it’s not your fault. It’s my problem. Can you give a little more ti?”
Chen Xu got a sinking feeling and asked, “How much longer do you need?”
Several seconds passed before she hesitantly said, “Half… half a year maybe.”
Chen Xu gave a wry smile, “Do I have the option to say no?”
“I’m sorry,” she said in a quiet voice, head still lowered.
Chen Xu was at a loss for words. He had thought that the matter with Yang Jinxia was over, but now there seed to be another pitfall waiting for him. He felt sowhat bitter inside.
Once Luo Xiyun went upstairs, he got out of the car and leaned against the door, watching until the light in the window of her apartnt turned on before getting back into the car and driving off.
There was still ti, and he planned to go back to the office. There was sothing he wanted to ask Secretary Jin—where she had heard about Luo Xiyun going to work abroad.
Today had been a huge mix-up, but sohow it had ended with Luo Xiyun and him making up. However, he was very concerned about the truth of this matter, as during dinner, he hadn’t asked her about it.
When he returned to the office, Secretary Jin was indeed there, tapping away at her keyboard. When he asked her about it, she stopped what she was doing and looked at him, saying, “If I hadn’t said that, would you have been in such a hurry to find her?”
“So, you made up this story to deceive ?” Chen Xu hadn’t expected this kind of answer at all.
Secretary Jin stood up and earnestly said, “I made a mistake. I shouldn’t have lied to you, I’m sorry. Feel free to punish .”
Chen Xu didn’t know what to say. To be angry? Sure, he was a bit, getting deceived like that. But she did an well after all. It would seem petulant to punish her for her intentions.
“Deduct half a month’s salary,” he said coldly.
“I accept.”
Chen Xu turned and left, sighing inwardly. Even if he punished her this ti, he owed her a favor, and he would always think of a way to make it up to her.
Having such a secretary was really headache-inducing.
PS: Second update done, off to sleep, sorry for the shorter length. Will make up for it after I move to the new house in a couple of days. Votes for the monthly ticket are appreciated.
