Chapter 117: We must hold steady at 117
The next morning, Chen Xu arrived at the office on ti. While waiting for the elevator, he appeared sowhat distracted.
Last night, he had dread of Yang Jinxia. Upon waking up, he found himself needing to wash his underwear.
Originally, in the dream, though he spoke of rolling in the sheets with her, he never actually experienced such a strong urge. Otherwise, in the two months they’d known each other, he would have had countless opportunities to push her down.
If he had truly wanted to, he could certainly have overco those obstacles.
Now, thinking that he wouldn’t see her until after the Spring Festival, he felt an unusual impatience.
“No, I must keep my composure. The mont you make that call, you’ve lost.”
He reminded himself.
He understood well that in this fast-paced society, feelings often co and go swiftly.
With soone like Yang Jinxia, who not only had outstanding looks but also excelled in every other aspect, and who wasn’t so naive girl without experience, how could she develop deep feelings for him so shortly after eting?
Perhaps her continued approach was rely driven by novelty. Once he takes the initiative, she might imdiately lose interest and no longer wish to engage with him.
He had seen such scenarios before. A guy from his college dorm beca soone’s backup option and never managed to beco the primary choice even by graduation.
Taking the elevator up to his floor, he had finally adjusted his ntal state. As soon he sat down, he saw Secretary Guo bring Old Tang over. Wondering what was happening, he listened as Secretary Guo introduced Old Tang as his work replacent.
“You two were in the sa departnt before, so you should be familiar with each other. Please start the handover process as soon as possible.” Secretary Guo said and then quickly left.
“Congratulations on becoming part of the new departnt.” Chen Xu genuinely rejoiced for him. After moving to the new departnt, not only could he expect a salary increase, but his future prospects were also significantly brighter.
Liu Kun’s cooperation with Fangdong Group was sothing he had witnessed firsthand. By connecting with the nation’s largest platform, online sales for the company would undoubtedly skyrocket. It was fortunate timing for Old Tang to join the venture.
Given Old Tang’s abilities, he was sure to perform even better than Chen Xu had.
“Why are you resigning all of a sudden?” Old Tang asked quietly.
“Let’s talk about it over lunch,” Chen Xu replied.
…
After the morning eting, Liu Kun went to Luo Xiyun’s office to discuss the progress made over the past month.
“What’s the deal with the cooperation with Fangdong Group?” Luo Xiyun asked, “I’ve looked at the cooperation plan, and normally, Fangdong Group wouldn’t offer us such strong support.”
Liu Kun’s expression remained calm, having anticipated this question. He said, “I approached Mr. Yang from Jinxiu Investnt. I was once her employee and had t her a few tis. She holds a significant number of shares in Fangdong Group and can influence so of Fangdong’s decisions.”
Luo Xiyun frowned deeply and countered, “She’s not exactly a saint. Why would you provoke her?”
“Don’t worry, she agreed to help this ti without making any demands,” Liu Kun reassured her.
Luo Xiyun shook her head and said, “Owing soone a favor is even harder to repay. My father would be furious if he knew.”
“I’ll take full responsibility with Mr. Luo,” Liu Kun stated solemnly.
“It’s already too late to discuss this now.”
Luo Xiyun spoke earnestly, “In the future, I hope you won’t go behind my back and make decisions on your own.”
“I understand,” Liu Kun said, bowing his head.
With that, the matter seed to have been put to rest.
After chatting for a while longer and covering most topics, Liu Kun got up to leave. As if asking casually, he inquired, “Are you attending tomorrow’s annual eting?”
Luo Xiyun was about to shake her head, recalling last year’s mories from the eting, but then, rembering sothing, she said, “I should go. It wouldn’t look good if I were absent from such an event.”
“Hmm,” Liu Kun responded and then left.
When he returned to his office, he called his secretary in and asked, “Is that thing I told you about with the technical departnt taken care of?”
“It’s all set.”
“Was it done cleanly?”
“Don’t worry, the managent in the technical departnt is in disarray. I pulled a few strings, and it was done. No one will suspect .”
Liu Kun’s face gave nothing away. This was the first ti he had entrusted his secretary with such a matter; it was a small test, and even if it failed, it wouldn’t matter.
The secretary hesitated before speaking, “Brother, you want to teach those people a lesson with this incident. But is it going to work? They can’t be stupid enough to hand over the evidence to you, right?”
Liu Kun sneered, “They’re not stupid, just shalessly brazen, thinking things are still the sa as before. I’m not intolerant of them, but they try to ruin my plans, huh.”
…
At noon, Chen Xu and Old Tang went out for a al together. Since Chen Xu had joined the new departnt, they had seen each other less frequently, eting only when borrowing and repaying money, and exchanging a few words over lunch.
“Now that you are in the new departnt with good treatnt and prospects, why do you suddenly want to resign at a critical mont?” After the dishes were served, Old Tang asked, puzzled.
“I want to start my own business.”
This answer was sowhat unexpected for Old Tang, knowing Chen Xu as he did. Chen Xu didn’t seem like the kind of person to make such a decision. Old Tang fell silent for a mont.
Chen Xu smiled, “I want to take a chance while I’m young.”
“You’ve really changed a lot since joining the new departnt.”
Old Tang said with so emotion, “So what do you plan to do?”
Chen Xu said, “Restaurants. Actually, I’ve already started. I opened a noodle shop near where I rent. It’s open for business after I get off work, and it’s doing pretty well.”
Seeing that he had thought it through, Old Tang laughed, “Then let congratulate you on your success in advance.”
“Thank you.”
“Let’s go check out your shop over the weekend.”
Chen Xu replied, “Sure.”
“Chen Xu.”
Suddenly, a woman’s voice ca from behind, and he turned around, startled. It was a female colleague, looking at him with surprise, “Are you really resigning? Going off to run a noodle shop?”
Seeing who it was, Chen Xu knew that news of his noodle shop would soon spread throughout the entire departnt.
At that mont, all he could do was keep smiling and say, “Yes.”
…
Sure enough, after Chen Xu finished lunch with Old Tang and returned to the office, a few acquaintances gathered around to ask him about his resignation and his noodle shop.
News traveled incredibly fast in the company, he suspected that the other colleagues might have created a gossip group excluding him specifically.
He finally managed to get through the inquiries, but when the other colleagues returned, it was another round of questioning. Their enthusiasm was a bit overwhelming.
“Otherwise, let’s go to Chen Xu’s shop this weekend and have a gathering, as a sort of pre-farewell party,” soone suggested.
“Sounds good,” others chid in agreent.
Chen Xu was quite surprised internally. Since moving to the new departnt, aside from Dai Zixin, whom he knew better, he maintained a strictly professional attitude towards other colleagues and didn’t have much of an interpersonal relationship. Unexpectedly, they could be so enthusiastic.
If he refused, that would be terribly unkind, so he expressed his welco.
“What is this all about?” Suddenly, Luo Xiyun’s voice ca from the entrance, “Work is about to start, what’s all this noise?”
Everyone imdiately quieted down and hurried back to their seats.
Only Dai Zixin stood up to explain, “Chen Xu is about to leave the company, and we were discussing having a farewell party at his shop.”
Luo Xiyun’s eyes flickered with confusion, “Shop?”
Chen Xu said, “Yes, I opened a noodle shop, and everyone has been supportive, saying they want to visit.”
Luo Xiyun’s faced remained expressionless as she said, “In the future, don’t discuss these things during work hours.”
With that, she went straight into her office.
Dai Zixin stuck out her tongue with a sense of relief.
Chen Xu was still looking at the office door, feeling that her attitude had beco even colder.
That’s for the best, he thought.
“Is Mr. Luo always like this?” Old Tang whispered.
Dai Zixin whispered back, “No, she was fine yesterday, I don’t know what got into her today.”
