Chapter 115: 115 it’s ti to say goodbye
The next day, Chen Xu did not take Yang Jinxia’s car to the company; he took the bus instead. It would be troubleso to explain if acquaintances saw him.
As usual, he arrived at the company around 8:50 a.m., brewed himself a cup of hot tea, leaned back in his chair, and listened to the idle chatter of his colleagues, just waiting for Liu Kun to arrive before starting the regular morning eting.
“The New Year is coming again,” Dai Zixin said softly, rocking her chair, feeling sentintal. “Ti flies so fast; it feels like just a blink of an eye since I graduated half a year ago. By the way, the annual company eting is in a few days. I heard that the prizes in previous years have been very substantial, is that true?”
Chen Xu said, “They are indeed substantial. Last year’s first prize was a laptop worth more than 20,000 yuan. However, us ordinary employees typically have just average luck.”
“What do you an by that?” Dai Zixin felt there was a hidden aning in his words.
“It’s nothing,” Chen Xu replied, lifting his teacup and taking a sip.
“Mr. Luo.”
Suddenly, an excited voice rose from the doorway. Chen Xu’s action of drinking tea paused, and he quickly turned his head to look, seeing a familiar figure enter his view.
Still dressed in a black trench coat, she moved as if bringing a breeze with her. As she walked in, the whole office quieted down.
“Good morning, Mr. Luo,” his colleagues stood up and greeted to welco their superior.
“Good morning, everyone,” Luo Xiyun surveyed the room, and when her eyes t Chen Xu’s, she paused slightly, gave a barely noticeable nod, then withdrew her gaze and headed to her office.
When Chen Xu saw her rosy complexion and spirited eyes, he knew she was fully recovered and he let go of any lingering concerns. He could leave the company with peace of mind in half a month.
Sotis, he wondered if, like Yang Jinxia, she might be influenced by the clone in the dream and develop so feelings for him. If he pursued her, maybe he could actually win her over.
Every ti the thought occurred to him, he rembered what she had said in the dream.
“His na is Du Feng, a senior executive at a tech company, with a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His parents have known mine for years. He’s 1.85 ters tall, very handso, cos from a wealthy family, and is well-educated and talented. Everyone says he’s the perfect match.”
Then, he would lose all such thoughts.
In the dreams, he could do as he pleased. But in reality, there were too many considerations.
“Is this your office?”
Liu Yung followed Luo Xiyun into the office and looked around.
She had entered the company with Luo Xiyun, but hardly anyone had noticed her.
Luo Xiyun settled her handbag and took off her trench coat, saying, “I told you, you didn’t need to co with .”
“You moved to a new departnt, and I haven’t visited yet. I’ve been wanting to see it,” Liu Yung quickly noticed the potted plant on the desk and remarked curiously, “Aren’t you averse to dust?”
“Don’t touch it,” Luo Xiyun stopped her as she reached out, and took out a spray bottle, unscrewed the lid to check the water, which looked freshly added, then screwed the lid back on and sprayed so water on the plant.
She had been away for a month, and it must have been Secretary Guo taking care of it. It was growing well, though no trellis had been set up for the leaves to spread out.
Liu Yung, watching her practiced movent, comnted, “You have changed.”
“Take a seat; I need to work,” Luo Xiyun put the spray bottle back in place, sat down at her desk, and turned on the computer. After being away from the office for a month, she’d need ti to get back up to speed.
“Then I’ll have your secretary take for a walk around,” Liu Yung stood up and went to find Secretary Guo.
“Sure, go ahead,” Luo Xiyun did not mind her.
Liu Yung left the office in search of Secretary Guo, who took her on a tour around the departnt.
“Who is that?” Liu Yung asked seemingly casually as they made their way around the office.
Secretary Guo followed her gaze and answered, “His na is Chen Xu, he’s mainly responsible for the advertising matters.”
Chen Xu.
Liu Yung etched this na into her mory. Since joining the company, she’d been observing Luo Xiyun and indeed had noticed a few clues.
The way Luo Xiyun looked at this man was completely different from her interactions with other employees.
But upon examination, this Chen Xu seed awfully ordinary. What exactly attracted Luo Xiyun to him?
Curiosity burgeoned within her, but she had no intention of approaching Chen Xu.
As best friends, so taboos must be avoided at all costs. Luo Xiyun was the type of person who couldn’t stand flaws.
Her curiosity hadn’t reached such an extent; knowing a little was enough.
Her purpose for coming along this ti was to see which man it was. Now that she had a likely candidate, she didn’t linger. After dropping by Luo Xiyun’s office to say goodbye, she left.
…
Chen Xu finally finished gathering all the materials from various stores. After handing them over to Secretary Guo, he no longer needed to be out and about every day. But still, he had to communicate with the advertising agency every now and then.
Apart from that, he would normally stay in the office, carefully reviewing the final products submitted by the ad agency to look for any errors.
He often sat down at his computer and would stay put for the entire day, occasionally allowing his mind to wander. Compared to others, he had it relatively easy.
He was planning to resign soon, his work was still completed on ti, and taking the odd lazy mont really wasn’t much of an issue.
In the afternoon, just before finishing ti, he knocked on Luo Xiyun’s office door.
“Co in,” she called from inside, and only then did he push the door open and enter.
Luo Xiyun was reviewing a docunt. When she looked up and saw him, she paused, casually closing the docunt, and asked, “What’s up?”
Chen Xu’s gaze lingered for a second on a potted plant on the desk. The plant had grown, and one could easily tell it was indeed a tomato plant.
This must also be an influence from the mory fragnts of the replicants in his dreams, he guessed, as he moved his eyes away and said, “I wanted to talk about resigning.”
“Sit down,” she said in her usual succinct manner.
Chen Xu took a seat across from her and said, “I’m thinking of leaving on the 10th next month. Should we arrange for soone to take over my duties?”
Luo Xiyun wasn’t looking at him; her eyes were fixed on the tender shoots of the tomato plant as she said, “I’ll arrange it. Just follow the procedures.”
“Alright, then I’ll head out,” Chen Xu said, rising from his seat and leaving.
The door closed gently behind him with a soft thud.
Luo Xiyun reached out and gently touched the topmost green leaf of the tomato seedling, sighing softly.
This month of rest had enabled her to see many things clearly. During the last week, Liu Yung even joined her on an overseas trip to clear her mind, which seed to have broadened her horizons. Her sleep had drastically improved, finally allowing her restful nights.
Life had to go on; it was just a dream after all, and it was ti to bid it farewell.
She would simply regard this bizarre dream as a unique experience in life.
That was her line of thought, but as soon as she considered his imminent departure, her heart felt as if it was being seized by sothing, and she couldn’t catch her breath. A thought grew stronger and stronger, “If I asked him to stay, would he?”
