Chapter 198: Chapter 148: Was She Wrong in Her Thinking?

“Brother Wang…”

The tone of Wang Jinhui on the other end was not good: “Are you being watched by the police?”

“Brother Wang, please save , send soone to pick up, bring so powder…”

“Why should I trust you? Are you setting up with the police?”

Xue Qi anxiously denied: “No! Brother Wang, I won’t implicate you. The deal this weekend will still go on, you give the goods after it’s done, then I’ll leave here!”

There was silence from Wang Jinhui before he spoke: “Address.”

It was three in the afternoon before Su Zhen was moved to a regular ward, her tiny body mostly wrapped in bandages, which were soaked with blood, a horrifying sight.

“After the anesthesia wears off, I will check her again. The most serious is her right leg fracture, you also need to be careful.” Doctor Yang explained attentively, and Su Nian listened earnestly, “Doctor Yang, does Zhenzhen have any head injuries?”

“We’ll only know when she wakes up, the current examination shows nothing serious; there’s just a slight abrasion on the head. Mainly, the waist and legs absorbed the impact… Thankfully, Ah Shu reacted quickly, and this little girl was spared.”

Referring to this, Su Nian felt a pang of guilt again, paused, and asked: “Doctor Yang… how is he now?”

“He hasn’t woken up yet, there’s a blood clot in his brain, surgery is necessary.”

“There won’t be any issues, right?”

“That guy is tough, he won’t die.” Doctor Yang paused, then added: “He probably won’t wake up until tonight. If you’re worried, go see him. Nothing much here, just call when she wakes up.”

“Alright, thank you, Doctor Yang.”

Standing in the corner, Su Yan, who had been worried all day, finally felt relieved.

He had never been so scared as he was today.

“Su Bao, go downstairs with little uncle to eat.”

“What about you, Mom?”

“Mom will go down later.”

Su Bao looked at Su Zhen on the bed and said, “I’ll go buy so lollipops for my sister, she’s sure to cry when she wakes up.”

Su Zhen smiled and nodded in agreent.

After Su Bao and Su Yan leave, she turned to look at Su Zhen on the bed, touching her small face, eyes full of pain.

Thankfully, Ah Shu reacted quickly, and this little girl was spared.

Suddenly rembering Doctor Yang’s words, Su Nian couldn’t help but go to that man’s ward.

Just like Su Zhen, he lay quietly on the bed, the drip regularly falling. Standing by the bed, her hand slowly reached for his handso yet pale face, fingers gently touching his forehead wrapped in white bandages, observing his closed eyes.

His eyelashes were beautiful, not long but very dark, adding a hint of color to his sharp gaze.

Closely observing his features, even after four years, they were still flawlessly perfect.

Sotis she wondered, how did such a good man end up with her?

Today, he risked his life for Su Zhen, and Su Nian began to re-evaluate her view of him.

Everything was too contradictory, too chaotic for her to make sense of.

If his approach was really to take the child, then his blatant attempt would be sothing she could not prevent, then why bother with these futile efforts?

Moreover, Ye Jiayao couldn’t bear children, but he could. If he wanted a child bearing his blood, that would be too easy, the won wanting to bear his child were nurous. Why then did he wait painfully for four years for her?

Could it be… that she was wrong?

But why did he go behind her back to et Ye Jiayao, and lie to her about not knowing Ye Jiayao’s whereabouts?

Too many doubts muddled her mind, she decided not to think about anything, to let go of reasoning and follow her instincts. When the storm hit, she’d find an umbrella for shelter…

“Old Shen, which one is the real you?”

The room answered her with its silence.

Her hand gently touched his left cheek; there were still swollen marks where she had hit him hard.

It wasn’t the first ti she saw him weak, but each ti it still pained her. She knew he hadn’t had an easy life, growing up amidst interests without the warmth of family affection, constantly guarding against sches and conspiracies by his half-brother.

That was why he learned to wear masks, to the point where even she couldn’t understand his thoughts.

His suffering and pain were borne alone, to outsiders he was high and mighty, but she had seen the loneliness behind the glory. She knew, the man who could call the wind and summon the rain, wasn’t having a good ti.

Now, however, she was bewildered, hovering between trust and suspicion. Each step taken with extre caution, a wrong one might lead her

to fall into an abyss…

She stared at him quietly for a long ti, held his big hand, then bent down, lightly touching his sowhat dry lips with a kiss so light, as if breathing a bit heavier would shatter this calmness.

She straightened his hand and properly covered him with a blanket before leaving.

At night, Su Nian lay beside Su Zhen’s bed, waiting for her to wake up.

Around ten o’clock, she heard thin whimpers emanating from the bed; Su Nian imdiately woke up.

Su Zhen was slightly opening her eyes, pursing her lips, yet unable to produce a loud cry.

“Zhenzhen, Mom is here.”

Looking at the usually lively and active Su Zhen, who now lies on the bed unable to speak, Su Nian’s dry eyes moisten once again.

Su Zhen looks at her with slanted eyes, and the slightest movent of her neck causes her to whine with her lips, “Ow… it hurts.”

Su Nian gently says with moist eyes, “Stay still, sweetie. Mom will call the doctor.”

After calling Doctor Yang, Su Zhen was very noisy during the examination, tears unceasingly falling, and her cries hoarse, causing Su Nian to turn away quietly to wipe her own tears.

How she wished she could bear the pain for her young daughter, and how she wished there was a man to lean on right now, telling her everything will be alright…

“The child is too young to bear such pain. Give her a painkiller injection first.”

Although aware that the dicine isn’t good for children’s bodies, at this mont, anything that could lessen her child’s pain felt necessary.

The usually indifferent Su Bao also got up from his bed the mont he heard Su Zhen crying, watching his sister worriedly, carefully holding her small hand, silently comforting her emotions.

After administering the painkiller injection with a sleeping effect to Su Zhen, Su Nian soothed her and she fell asleep.

Once the child cald down, Doctor Yang then said, “There are no other issues now. She just needs to get through this period, but since she is still developing, be cautious not to cause secondary injuries, otherwise, it might lead to chronic issues.”

Su Nian nodded with red eyes, “…Okay.”

As the child fell asleep again, the tears in Su Nian’s eyes had still not dried.

Looking at the two children holding hands in their sleep, Su Nian felt a surge of guilt.

Because of Xue Qi’s hatred towards her, the young children suffered.

And that man…

She wondered if he had woken up. She wanted to talk to him now, wanted to depend on him without worries, to lay down all suspicions and gamble on an uncertain future.

Would the outco be a reunion of the family or a disastrous loss…

In another ward, the man on the bed slowly opened his eyes, the corners of his mouth faintly curving upwards.

He had a beautiful dream, in which she was there, saying sorry to him, shedding tears for him…

Sitting up and observing his surroundings, he slowly recalled the events before fainting; his face’s smile was abruptly replaced by a chill.

He imdiately removed his IV needle and climbed out from under the covers.

After the children slept peacefully, Su Nian wiped away her tears, covered the children properly, and thought about checking on Shen Hanxiu.

Wearing a hospital gown, Shen Hanxiu looked sowhat wan, but his dominant aura couldn’t be concealed.

Turning the corner, he abruptly stopped at the sight of the woman walking towards him.

Seeing her red eyes, his guilt surged again. Standing still, he looked at her gloomy-eyed, and as their gazes t, the tears at the corner of her eyes flowed once more.

While he was contemplating how to start speaking, how to apologize and how to comfort her…

A soft body threw itself into his arms, her waist tightly encircled, her scent lingering at his nose.

This gesture surprised and delighted him, and he hesitated for two seconds before lifting his hands to embrace her.

Seeing her throw herself into his arms, he felt as if he was dreaming.

Wasn’t she supposed to hate him terribly for what happened to Su Zhen?

Amidst his confusion, a choked whisper ca from her in his arms, “…I’m sorry.”

Shen Hanxiu gently stroked her head, his lips unconsciously curving up, a sigh of relief escaping him silently.

Su Nian felt secure even in her tears, nestled in his embrace; even if she knew this might be a gentle trap, she wanted to deceive herself and enjoy the comfort for a while.

Shen Hanxiu patted her shoulder, lifted her slightly, and with the tips of his fingers, wiped the tears from the corner of her eyes, asking softly, “How is Zhenzhen?”

Su Nian kept her head down and shook it slightly, composing herself before looking up at him to ask, “What about you? When did you wake up…”

“Just now.”

“Did you call a doctor to check?”

Seeing his concerned look, Shen Hanxiu thought any pain was worth it, “No.”

“Then why are you out of bed… Go back and lie down, I’ll call the doctor.”

Shen Hanxiu hurriedly grabbed her hand, fearing that if she left, she would return cold again. If this was a dream, he wished to never wake.

Seeing him hold her, Su Nian inexplicably turned back and looked at him, he smiled lightly and said, “I’m fine, let’s first check on the children.”

Su Nian glared at him with her red eyes, “Still saying you’re fine, the doctor said there is a blood clot in your brain that needs surgery.”

Not a single person in the family gave her peace of mind.

She thought he would take care of himself after hearing this, but he instead embraced her and moved forward, saying lightly, “Don’t worry, I won’t lose my mory and forget you.”

Su Nian sniffed, touched inside.

Seeing that the children were asleep, Shen Hanxiu didn’t disturb them, hearing a bit about Su Zhen’s condition from Su Nian before saying, “Leave the rest to , go rest, it’s late.”

“You’re the patient, you should rest.”

“I am a man.”

“n are humans too.” Su Nian’s heart ached, him taking up the man’s responsibilities, bearing everything alone, she rembered slapping him, feeling as though she had hit her own heart, a dull pain.
