Chapter 163: Chapter 120 What Do You Understand? Being Too Clever by Half_2

Maybe he shouldn’t have gotten involved with her to start with; he thought he could walk away unscathed when the ti ca, but Wei Lan’s simplicity and purity made him feel his actions were despicable. He also knew that she truly liked him, starting from their university days.

So when he suddenly proposed to her, she struggled ntally for a while, yet still chose to accept.

She was easily satisfied; he only needed to dine with her or buy her small gifts and she would smile at him beautifully.

Her pure smile increased the guilt in his heart.

It also made him start to feel remorse and self-bla.

Taking out the key she gave him, he unlocked her door and walked into her bedroom, this being the first ti he visited so late.

On the small hoy bed, she was fast asleep, breathing steadily, her chest rising and falling rhythmically, her slightly chubby face appearing very cute.

After they got married, she beca his obedient little wife, quietly waiting for him at ho, even going out to learn to cook since she didn’t know how, but he spent too little ti at ho.

He didn’t know whether it was an impulse, fatigue, or a desire for stability, but Jing Zan took off his coat, sat beside her bed, shifted her body inwards, and then lay down beside her.

Even though he tried to be gentle, she still opened her eyes, bewildered for a couple of seconds before panic inexplicably set in, and she babbled an apology: “I’m sorry… I won’t ask anymore!”

Confused by her sudden apology, Jing Zan couldn’t help but be amused by her behavior, chuckling as he touched her head: “What are you talking about?”

Wei Lan’s eyes widened as she stared at Jing Zan’s face in the darkness, not sure if she was dreaming or awake.

In her dream, as Sister Niannian had said, she confronted Jing Zan about who he was calling, asking if he had another woman outside, and then the normally gentle Jing Zan suddenly flew into a rage.

When she opened her eyes and saw Jing Zan, she thought she was still in a dream, so she quickly and ekly apologized, then seeing his gentle smile, Wei Lan froze, feeling the tenderness of his touch on her head… This wasn’t a dream?

But… but why would Senior be here at this hour? And… and in the sa bed with her!

“What dream did you have?”

“Eh? No… none…” Wei Lan, nervous, stuttered her speech, which took her a mont to gather before she belatedly asked: “…Senior, when did you co?”

Jing Zan drew her closer into his embrace, looking at her shy deanor, his mood lifted, and he softly replied to her: “Just now.”

Wei Lan had never been this intimate with any man, even though they had been married for several months, this was their first night sharing a bed, leaving her completely sleepless and tense.

“Are things at your company settled now?”

Jing Zan paused, his expression frozen for a few seconds before nodding: “Yeah.”

Awakening from her dream, Wei Lan hesitated whether to press forward and get to the bottom of it, afraid that he would beco fierce as in the dream if she did, but without asking, her heart couldn’t rest easy either.

As she lay stiff in his embrace, deliberating whether she should speak, Jing Zan suddenly made a move, initially lying on his side, he then turned to cover her body with his, his large hand encircling her waist, the scorching warmth of his palm transferring through her thin nightgown to Wei Lan.

Although she had never been with a man, Wei Lan could vaguely anticipate what was to co.

She had once dreamt of giving everything she had to him, but now she hesitated; she was afraid that he didn’t really like her, afraid that if she let down her last line of defense, she’d have nothing to hold him back with, and she didn’t want to be a foolish woman who knew his heart wasn’t with her, yet still surrendered everything, ending up losing everything…

“Senior…” Wei Lan reached out and pushed him.

Jing Zan looked down at her, then leaned over to swallow the words she had behind her lips.

On the verge of a misfire, Wei Lan caught her breath and hurriedly spoke, the hesitant words slipping out: “Senior, every ti you get a phone call you leave… is it always work at the office?”

She chose a tactful way to ask, but due to extre nervousness, she still felt her words were not quite right, perhaps she should have asked if there was a lot of work needing to be done overti at the office?

Wei Lan’s sudden question made Jing Zan halt his actions, a flicker of panic and regret passing through his eyes before disappearing before she could notice.

He had nearly made a big mistake; he had already wronged Wei Lan enough, and could not afford to err so grievously that things beca irreparable.

Releasing Wei Lan, he gave a low “um,” without any further explanation, as if to dismiss her questioning.

With that, he tugged at the blanket, and lay down with his back to Ziyan: “Let’s sleep, it’s late.”

Wei Lan looked at his back, her heart a tangled ss, filled with unease and grievance.

She had clearly annoyed him by being ddleso; his dismissive response left her even more uncertain, wondering if he really had another woman outside?

His ex-girlfriend was a completely different type from her, tall, stylishly beautiful, with a great figure, they even looked good standing together – sothing Wei Lan couldn’t compete with, not to ntion when it ca to poise and grace, especially in front of him, she was left feeling constrained.

Could it be that he regretted it, found her too boring after getting married, that’s why he wasn’t sincere in his attitude or even cared about what was on her mind?

Wei Lan knew she wasn’t stunningly beautiful or engagingly conversational, and even she felt she wasn’t well-matched standing next to him.

That must also be why he never took her to et his parents or introduced her to his friends.

Tears welled up, and with her back to him, she covered her mouth, trying not to cry out loud; her nose was so congested it was unbearable, so she got up and went to the restroom.

It was only when the bathroom door shut that Jing Zan opened his eyes. He clearly heard her sobbing, his heart in turmoil, realizing his dismissive attitude had let down a girl who truly liked him.

Maybe if he hadn’t gotten involved with her, she wouldn’t be feeling this sad now?

This night was destined to be anything but peaceful…
