"Grandma, why are you up?" Bai Qingshui imdiately rushed to Old Madam Bai’s side, attempting to support her. But as soon as she stretched out her arm, the old lady recoiled as if from a venomous snake, causing Bai Qingshui considerable embarrassnt. She paused, perplexed. "Grandma, I’m just trying to help you."
"I don’t need it!" Old Madam Bai was so angry her chest ached. "If you support , I fear I’ll die even faster!"
Intimidated by Old Madam Bai’s imposing aura, Bai Qingshui looked aggrieved. "Grandma, why would you think that? It’s , Qingshui."
A suffocating feeling caught in Old Madam Bai’s chest; she could neither cough it up nor swallow it down. She waved towards Si Mingjing. "Mingjing, co over and help . My chest feels terribly tight."
Si Mingjing rose and strode over to Old Madam Bai, helping her to the main seat before taking her pulse.
After taking her pulse, Si Mingjing gently said, "Grandma, please calm down. It’s not worth harming your health over this."
Old Madam Bai clutched her chest and thumped it twice. "How can I not be angry? How could I not be? The child I watched grow up wants to kill ! It’s like I’ve raised an ungrateful wolf!"
Bai Qingshui’s heart lurched and sank. Does Grandma already know? How is that possible? It’s impossible! She had planned everything so ticulously, and it had all gone as smoothly as she’d anticipated. There was no way Grandma could know!
Bai Chuanfeng’s right eyelid twitched incessantly. She had always suspected it wasn’t Ye Siyuan’s doing, and she couldn’t believe her own daughter was capable of such a thing. Yet, her mother was so furiously enraged...
Clutching at the last shred of hope, Bai Chuanfeng walked over. "Mother, what are you saying?"
"What am I saying? Go ask that wonderful daughter you raised!"
Old Madam Bai shouted sharply. Seeing the small doll on the table, she grabbed it and threw it at Bai Qingshui. "Using a doll to curse your own grandmother—is this sothing a human being would do?"
The doll struck Bai Qingshui’s face. A fine needle grazed her cheek, leaving a bloody scratch.
Bai Qingshui’s mind went blank. Ignoring the sting, she desperately explained, "Grandma, it wasn’t ! It was Ye Siyuan! Are you confused because of the fever?"
Old Madam Bai snorted heavily, her voice filled with anger. "Are you hoping my mind is muddled by fever so you can manipulate at will? Use as a pawn to deal with those you want to harm? How could the Bai Family produce such a degenerate descendant! I never wanted to believe it. Even now, I still don’t want to believe it. But you... you have disappointed too greatly!"
After uttering just a few words, Old Madam Bai felt dizzy. She clutched Si Mingjing’s arm, leaning weakly against her.
Si Mingjing stood beside Old Madam Bai, allowing her to lean on her. Her gaze, sharp as a blade, fell upon Bai Qingshui’s face. Her eyes were so bright and piercing that Bai Qingshui felt a chill to her very core.
"It’s not like that! It’s not like that! Grandma, it was Ye Siyuan!" Bai Qingshui frantically explained.
The other clan mbers exchanged bewildered glances, unable to understand the situation.
Even Old Master Bai and Bai Qingshui’s father, Sheng Baichuan, began to wonder, Has Old Madam Bai beco senile? The evidence is irrefutable. Ye Siyuan did this. How could Bai Qingshui possibly be involved?
Old Master Bai walked towards his wife. "Qiuying," he said, "this matter has nothing to do with Qingshui. All these items were found in Ye Siyuan’s room. Don’t wrongly accuse the child. Qingshui grew up with us; how could she do such a thing?"
It was precisely because Qingshui had grown up by her side that Old Madam Bai felt an even deeper chill in her heart.
Tears stread down Bai Qingshui’s face. "Yes, Grandma, how could I do such a thing? It was Xianglan who said she saw sothing ’unclean.’ The butler took people to investigate and found these items. It has nothing to do with ! I was just indignant on your behalf!"
"Go! Bring that maid Xianglan to !" Old Madam Bai ordered furiously.
Xianglan was brought to the living room. She adamantly claid, "Old Madam Bai, I saw it by accident while cleaning Miss Ye’s room. I don’t know anything else."
Hearing Xianglan’s words, Bai Qingshui sighed in relief.
"You don’t know, is that it?" Old Madam Bai, who had been a formidable figure in her youth, narrowed her eyes. "I’ll give you one more chance. If you don’t confess the truth now, your entire family can forget about staying on the Mu Continent! I may be old, but I still have that much power! You can try !"
Xianglan’s legs trembled so violently she almost collapsed. "Old Madam Bai," she stamred, "I’ll talk! I’ll talk! What I said just now... Second Miss taught to say that!"
Bai Qingshui’s face turned deathly pale. She strode over and slapped Xianglan hard across the face. "How dare you spout such nonsense!"
She shot Xianglan a fierce, warning glare.
But Xianglan, ignoring the look, clutched her stinging cheek and confronted Bai Qingshui, "Second Miss, I told you before! Even if you hate Miss Ye for winning Crown Prince Lisao’s affection, you can’t gamble with Old Madam Bai’s health! But you wouldn’t listen! You threatened , saying if I didn’t do as you said, my entire family would lose their jobs..."
"Non... nonsense! You’re talking utter nonsense! Think clearly before you speak!" Bai Qingshui, completely flustered, warned sharply.
Bai Qingshui thought she could still threaten Xianglan, but she had no idea that Xianglan’s entire family had already been apprehended by Mo Yinhe.
Just three minutes prior, she had received a text ssage.
It read: "If you don’t tell the truth, be prepared to collect your family’s corpses."
Xianglan was terrified; she didn’t dare hide a single thing. "Everything I said is true! Old Madam Bai, it was Second Miss who told to put this package in Miss Ye’s room while I was cleaning. This is a recording of Second Miss instructing ."
Xianglan then played a recording on her phone.
Although she was only a maidservant, she knew that if this blew up, a hundred mouths wouldn’t be enough to clear her na. So, she had made a recording beforehand as a precaution.
Upon hearing the recording, everyone stared at Bai Qingshui with unconcealed fury. Who would have thought she’d resort to such despicable ans to fra Ye Siyuan! Old Madam Bai was her own grandmother!
SMACK! Bai Chuanfeng struck her daughter hard across the face. If she didn’t make her stance clear now, the others would beco even more enraged.
Bai Qingshui clutched her swollen cheek. "Mom, Mom..."
As Bai Chuanfeng’s hand swung, her heart ached fiercely, but she knew she had to make her position clear. Her daughter was an absolute fool! She hadn’t learned a shred of her mother’s strategic acun. Seeing Si Mingjing and Ye Siyuan remain so composed in this crisis, Bai Chuanfeng finally understood. Her daughter had blundered into soone else’s trap without an inkling of awareness, priding herself on her ’success,’ only to beco a laughingstock.
"You wretched girl! You wretched girl! How could I have given birth to a daughter like you!" So foolish! Utterly, exasperatingly foolish!
