Sheng Liuyun and Yun Yin were usually at odds, always looking at each other with displeasure. At this mont, however, they wished they could stand united against a common foe. They were determined to get rid of this upstart who dared to impersonate their little sister’s third brother and was fawning over Mo Yinhe!
"Shall we take action?" Sheng Liuyun asked impatiently.
Yun Yin was even more blunt. "Obviously!"
And so, Su Cheng was dragged away by Sheng Liuyun and Yun Yin.
Su Cheng’s internal alarm bells blared. "Hey! Hey! What are you doing? I’m telling you, I am Mo Yinhe’s brother-in-law, you—OW..."
"Ajiu." Soone greeted Si Mingjing.
Si Mingjing didn’t realize she was being called. She was busy socializing with others until soone tapped her shoulder, prompting her to turn around.
She looked up to see Qu Liushang, impeccably dressed and exuding an air of elegance.
Qu Liushang’s gaze burned hotly as it landed on her. He offered her a bouquet of flowers. "Congratulations on the grand opening."
"Thank you."
Si Mingjing smiled faintly; all who ca to show their support today were distinguished guests. One doesn’t turn away a smiling face.
Ye Siyuan, ever sharp-eyed, strode over. "Mingjing, these flowers are beautiful! The finest among roses, and my favorite kind. Can you give them to ?"
"Of course."
Ye Siyuan helped her out of a bind. Si Mingjing, relieved to be rid of the awkward gift, readily agreed. Watching Ye Siyuan snatch the flowers from Si Lisao’s hands—who had apparently taken the bouquet from her—Si Mingjing then laughed and asked Qu Liushang, "Mr. Qu, you don’t mind, do you?"
"And what if I do?"
Qu Liushang wasn’t playing by the usual rules. He saw the staff were already making preparations for the ribbon-cutting. "Then," he proposed, "how about you accompany for a dance at the reception after the ceremony?"
"I’m sorry. I co from Prison Star and have never learned ballroom dancing. I’m afraid I’ll have to disappoint you."
Si Mingjing refused.
She could dance. Not long ago, she had waltzed with Mo Yinhe in the tomb, but she had no desire to dance with Qu Liushang.
This man always called her Ajiu, which annoyed her. Besides, he was indiscriminate with his advances, and Si Mingjing preferred to keep her distance.
Qu Liushang didn’t believe her. His figure was lean, his presence captivating. "The dance you perford at the opening ceremony srized the entire Undersea World. Ajiu, do you really mind dancing with that much?"
He took a step forward, leaning in, breaching the comfortable social distance.
Si Mingjing instinctively stepped back.
At that mont, a voice echoed in her quiet mind—the Demon King, silent for days. "Heh..."
Heh... courting death! Si Mingjing inwardly echoed, mimicking the Demon King’s tone.
Si Mingjing pressed her fingers to her brow and said formally, "Mr. Qu, I hope this is the last ti I have to repeat myself. Please do not call Ajiu. If you continue to address in this manner, I’m afraid I won’t be able to ensure all my guests enjoy themselves. I have other guests to attend to, so please excuse ."
Si Mingjing saw Dong Shangzhi getting out of a car.
She had organized this opening ceremony entirely for Dong Shangzhi.
Her main target had finally arrived.
Si Mingjing’s fighting spirit surged.
Accompanying him was an elegant woman who erged from the car and took his arm.
Si Mingjing stepped forward to greet them. "Director Dong, thank you for coming to support us."
"Not at all, not at all."
Dong Shangzhi’s eyes were puffy; he clearly hadn’t slept well for the past few days.
He introduced, "This is my wife."
So, this was his wife? Did she know about Dong Shangzhi’s infidelities?
Si Mingjing was an expert observer and imdiately saw that Mrs. Dong’s eyes were full of adoration for Dong Shangzhi.
Their marital relationship must be quite good, then.
However, Mrs. Dong herself didn’t look well.
Her phoenix eyes sharp with perception, Si Mingjing asked with concern, "Mrs. Dong, you don’t look well. Are you feeling unwell?"
Mrs. Dong said, "It’s nothing."
"I happen to know a bit about dicine. How about I take your pulse for you?"
Mrs. Dong declined, her voice tinged with sadness. "It’s nothing serious. It’s just that my cat, which I’ve had for several years, sohow fell into the artificial lake at the pharmaceutical plant three days ago. My husband didn’t tell at first, afraid I’d be heartbroken. He saw I’d been frantically searching for the cat these past few days, growing restless and anxious, so he finally told the truth. I’m quite distressed."
A cat fell into the pharmaceutical plant’s artificial lake? Three days ago? Could there be such a coincidence in this world?
Si Mingjing offered Mrs. Dong a few words of sympathy. Then, her phoenix eyes narrowed slightly. She understood!
Dong Shangzhi was cunning! To harm the little boy, he wouldn’t even hesitate to sacrifice his own wife’s favorite cat! Hah, since he wants to put on a show, I’ll gladly play along!
Completely unaware, Mrs. Dong forced a smile. "Miss Si," she said, "today is your grand opening, such an auspicious occasion. I shouldn’t be saying such disheartening things. My husband has told that you’re not only skilled in dicine but have also significantly advanced the dical field’s fight against cancer. It’s a pleasure to et you. I wish your business great success."
"Thank you."
Mrs. Dong had an artistic air. A thirty-six-year-old yoga instructor, she maintained her figure excellently. Every gesture was like that of a true socialite.
To think Dong Shangzhi would still cheat with such a beautiful wife by his side! It seems when so n decide to stray, not even a leash could hold them back!
Si Mingjing felt a pang of sympathy for Mrs. Dong, mixed with scorn for her husband.
Just then, Ye Shen strode over and poked Si Mingjing in the back. "Sister-in-law, Dad is calling you for the ribbon-cutting."
"Okay."
Si Mingjing said to Mrs. Dong, "Mrs. Dong, please accept my condolences. I have so other matters to attend to..."
"Please, go ahead," Mrs. Dong urged. "Don’t miss the auspicious mont. A ribbon-cutting for a company opening is very important."
"Young Master Ye," Dong Shangzhi asked after Si Mingjing left, "did the child identify the culprit?"
Ye Shen looked gloomily at Gu Shurong, who was playing on the ground nearby. "Not yet," he sighed. "I printed photos of every employee you provided for him to identify. But the sight of so many pictures just makes him cry and refuse to look. We’ll have to wait a few days. Let the boy calm down before we try again."
Dong Shangzhi, who had his own agenda, readily agreed. "Indeed, the child’s psychological health is paramount."
Standing nearby, Mrs. Dong only caught snippets of their conversation. "Husband, what happened?" she asked.
Dong Shangzhi explained, "Three days ago, Miss Si brought a child to the pharmaceutical plant. She said he witnessed soone’s affair and was then thrown into the artificial lake."
"What?" Mrs. Dong frowned. "Who could be so cruel?"
"They’re still searching for the culprit," Dong Shangzhi added.
Mrs. Dong suddenly clenched her fists. "Husband," she whispered, her voice tight, "could our Miaomiao also have seen sothing she shouldn’t have and... and been thrown into the lake?"
Dong Shangzhi patted her arm comfortingly. "It’s hard to say, my dear."
"If soone really did throw our Miaomiao into the lake," Mrs. Dong declared, her voice hardening, "I will never let those wretched people get away with it!"
After excusing herself, Si Mingjing didn’t go directly to the ribbon-cutting. Instead, she called the little boy over and whispered sothing to him.
After speaking, Si Mingjing gently patted the child’s head. "Do you rember what Auntie told you?"
The little boy, visibly excited, nodded adorably, puffing out his small chest. "I definitely won’t fall for their tricks! Pretty Auntie, just wait and watch the show!"
