Bai Ye leaned closer to the dark girl and sniffed her carefully. “It’s a human,” he said. “A male.”

Tang Guo spread her hands at Xii and said, “Then leave. We can’t accommodate you here anymore.”
Xii felt as if she’d been struck by lightning. “Then—then why did you call back?”
