Very late before I can go back...
Just these few words made Dong Xin Yan secretly breathe a sigh of relief.
Although she knew that even if he ca back late, what had to be faced still had to be faced. But if he could be late for a while, then let it be late for a while.
"It’s okay, I’ll wait for you. Don’t drink too much, okay?"
"Heh...," the man’s low and pleasant laughter echoed in her ear, "As you command."
After hanging up the phone, Dong Xin Yan sat dumbfounded on the sofa for a while, then got up and walked toward the terrace.
The night breeze was slightly chill. Dong Xin Yan wore thin loungewear, and her body involuntarily shivered a bit. She wrapped her arms around herself, gently rubbing her arms, yet did not return inside.
She needed the cool breeze to keep a calm mind, to think well, and consider how to speak to Gu Ningyi when he returned.
Leaning against the railing, Dong Xin Yan gradually beca entranced as she thought.
Suddenly, a sound exploded by her ear, and then before her eyes, bright fireworks blossod against the dark backdrop, one cluster after another ascended and burst. In an instant, the black night transford into sothing as bright as day, stunningly beautiful.
Dong Xin Yan stared blankly, utterly stupefied.
Why suddenly... are there such beautiful fireworks?
After her daze, she couldn’t help but marvel as her phone suddenly rang. Dong Xin Yan took it out of her pocket and answered, "Hello."
"Do you like them? The fireworks."
"You... you set them off?" Dong Xin Yan was in disbelief, "Aren’t you at a dinner party?"
"You said you missed , how could I not hurry back?" Gu Ningyi’s voice was low and lodious, "Look down."
Dong Xin Yan’s dark eyes followed his guidance.
On the grassy area ahead, nurous candles were lit, forming a large heart shape. The candlelight flickered in the breeze, and Gu Ningyi, tall and upright, stood among them, the corners of his lips subtly curved, smiling at her.
"Co down."
Dong Xin Yan unconsciously covered her lips with her hand, her eyes widening slightly in surprise, astonishnt, and a fleeting thrill. But what followed was a deep unease.
She seemingly realized what Gu Ningyi intended to do.
And at this mont, she had no way to face what he wanted to do.
Dong Xin Yan swallowed audibly, her voice slightly hoarse, "Gu Ningyi, I... I have sothing to say to you."
"Hmm, is that so? Just right, I also have sothing to say to you. Co down quickly."
Dong Xin Yan clenched her hand tightly, her words felt as if they were slowly being squeezed out of her throat, "No, I’m not going down. You co up."
Gu Ningyi’s voice paused slightly, his breathing seeming to deepen a bit, "Xinyan..."
He softly called her na, yet it made Dong Xin Yan’s heart tremble intensely.
He seed to want to say sothing. After a mont of silence, he softly parted his lips and compromised, "Alright, I’m coming up."
-
The footsteps behind her ca from far to near. Dong Xin Yan bit her lower lip hard, as if cheering herself on, and then turned around.
Gu Ningyi approached step by step and stopped in front of her.
His dark eyes lowered, looking at her, "Go ahead, what do you want to say?"
Even though she had prepared herself ntally and thought through everything she wanted to say, when he really stood before her, all her preparations, all her words, turned into nothingness.
She stood there dazed, her lips moving, opening and closing, yet no sound ca out.
Gu Ningyi continued to speak, "Co on, you’ve been hesitating to speak lately; what exactly do you want to say?"
