"Dong Xin Yan."

Gu Ningyi interrupted her coldly, his voice devoid of any warmth, even colder than the cold wind itself, "Either you leave now, or I’ll make you experience those underhanded and filthy tricks you keep ntioning..."

As soon as he finished speaking, the cough he had been forcefully suppressing burst out uncontrollably. Gu Ningyi coughed heavily, his brows tightly knitted, and a touch of unnatural flush quickly appeared on his cheeks.

Dong Xin Yan’s anger was suddenly quelled by his cough. She paused for a mont, unconsciously lifting her eyes to look at him.

She hadn’t noticed earlier nor was in the mood to, but now that she took a proper look, her heart couldn’t help but tremble.

Gu Ningyi’s complexion was terrible, almost entirely drained of color, his lips pale and dry, yet his cheeks were extraordinarily flushed, and his forehead was covered with a thin layer of sweat. Moreover... his body seed to be trembling slightly.

So, he was really unwell? Wasn’t he lying to her? Then, had she wronged him?

All the words she had ready to speak were abruptly stuck in her throat. Dong Xin Yan froze, montarily unsure of how to react.

Noticing Dong Xin Yan’s gaze, Gu Ningyi suddenly turned his body, as if unwilling to let her see his disheveled and vulnerable state. However, his movent was too hasty, and his body too frail to remain steady, causing him to fall forward.

Dong Xin Yan watched, her mind still not reacting, but her hands instinctively reached out and caught Gu Ningyi.

The mont her hands touched his body, Gu Ningyi couldn’t help but tremble violently. He turned his face, looking at her in astonishnt.

Dong Xin Yan snapped out of her daze, and she was stunned for a few seconds. She hadn’t expected that even in her anger, instead of rejoicing in his misfortune, she would reach out to help him.

The two of them locked eyes, the air feeling sowhat stagnant and awkward.

At least, for Dong Xin Yan, it was like this.

Her dark pupils flickered slightly, shifting left and right, not quite able to et Gu Ningyi’s eyes. After a light cough, she gradually released him, clutching her clothing hem tightly, and said in an unnatural tone, "Sorry, I didn’t know you were really sick."

Pausing for a mont, she bit her lower lip lightly, her voice still sowhat cold and hard, "But, did you really not do that thing?"

Despite everything, she still didn’t trust him. She never... trusted him. The only person she trusted and relied on was Cheng Ziyang.

Gu Ningyi leaned against the cabinet in the hallway, barely steadying himself. His lips curled coldly, his dark eyes no longer looking at her but falling into the void, "What if I did? What if I didn’t? Think whatever you like."

He let out a cold laugh, supported himself by the cabinet, and trudged step by step into the room. Yet, whether it was the overwhelming sadness or his body simply couldn’t hold on, with each step his consciousness faltered, and after struggling to take five steps, in the end, he fell helplessly.

-

Gu Ningyi had a dream, or perhaps it shouldn’t be called a dream, because it was sothing that had happened between him and Dong Xin Yan in the past...

During the ti of his blindness, he was irritable, quick to anger, refusing to let anyone approach, not wanting anyone to see his disarray and vulnerability. Dong Xin Yan had insisted on barging in, and he, like a porcupine, had raised his quills harshly, trying to drive her away.
