Chapter 1693: Chapter 612: The Happy Beginning of Master Oswald_3
“Ha ha ha!” Owen Bertram burst into laughter suddenly: “Incurable fool! Show so respect, give a bow, and I’ll spare your life.”
Sullivan was furious: “Arrogant!” Owen Bertram just smiled and shook his head, saying no more. He andered forward, hands clasped behind his back, not uttering another word to him.
Sullivan huffed and followed after him: “Self-righteous.” But he couldn’t help feeling uneasy: Could he have misinterpreted the intentions of Master Burgess? Surely that couldn’t be, what he interpreted must be Master Burgess’s intentions…
He kept reassuring himself, but his anxiety grew. After travelling a hundred miles or so, he hesitantly asked, “Do you think that Master Burgess didn’t an what I thought?” Owen Bertram simply ignored him, continuing to stride ahead quickly. It seed they would soon be out of the Extinction Domain. Sullivan felt too embarrassed to inquire further in the presence of others, but his unease grew.
Finally, the exit of the Copper Gorge Extinction Domain was in sight. Sullivan’s countenance fluctuated several tis before he swiftly manoeuvred himself in front of Owen Bertram: “Hold on!”
Owen Bertram didn’t slow down, veering slightly to pass Sullivan. Sullivan fud, smoke seemingly coming out of his seven orifices, yet he was powerless. He bellowed, “Please halt, and allow to bow to you!”
Owen Bertram stopped and turned around. Sullivan bowed respectfully from a distance.
Owen Bertram laughed heartily before speaking, “Master Burgess is no longer the Deity who communicated with you before the Heavenly Track Reversal, right?”
Sullivan nodded, “It’s not the sa one.”
“So, this is why you can’t understand this simple truth?”
Sullivan’s temples throbbed, frustration evident in his gritted teeth, “Please enlighten .”
“Master Burgess can bestow upon the Divine Script, but once I receive it, not only can Master Burgess contact , but other Immortal Venerables can as well – just like how you do. Do you understand now? Master Burgess has grand ambitions and He plans to cultivate his own team!”
Sullivan had a sudden realization, “So that’s it…”
Owen Bertram gazed at him with a smirk, “Do you still think that Master Burgess doesn’t trust and sent you to keep watch on ?”
Sullivan shuddered, a cold sweat erging from his brow. If he truly thought he had seen through Master Burgess’s intentions, planning to control Owen Bertram while gossiping and creating discord… he might not be far from death.
He glanced at Owen Bertram, stubbornly retorting, “That’s just your guess. Of course, your guess benefits you.” But he was convinced.
Owen Bertram chose not to argue, simply stating, “Of the two tasks given by Master Burgess, I will assign the investigation of the ancient sects to my n. As for the search for terrestrial gods, we will have to handle it ourselves and visit the island.”
Confused, Sullivan asked, “You advised Master Burgess not to exterminate terrestrial gods hastily, yet you willingly carry out this task. Why?”
“Let give you a free lesson.”
Sullivan was indignant but didn’t dare quarrel with him, afraid that he might be asked to bow again before receiving the answer..
“Whether or not to annihilate terrestrial gods, and when to do so, is up to Master Burgess. Our duty is to faithfully carry out his orders!”
…
Upon hearing this, Master Oswald in the Supervision Tower was finally satisfied. This newly recruited subordinate truly was a treasure -g a capable and effective operator who knew what his superiors wanted.
Compared to Sullivan, who was essentially useless – his only redeeming quality being his obedience. But even that had been lost during the previous incident when he tried to claim false rit by putting an innocent man to death.
Master Oswald opened a window and beckoned to the misty clouds outside. A Immortal Crane flew towards him. There were many such magical creations in Immortal Country for immortals to use freely. He instructed the Immortal Crane to summon the four fairies. They arrived shortly after.
Master Oswald reported the information Owen Bertram had gathered. The three fairies whose lineages were lost were deeply grieved. However, the fairies, with their infinite lifespans, tended to be sowhat detached. Their primary concern was the disadvantages they faced due to the lack of soone to inherit their legacy in the lower realm. Their disappointnt was greater than their sense of loss.
As for the only fairy who still had a lineage, who was usually unapproachably cold, she surprised everyone by inviting Master Oswald to a feast in her Immortal Tower as a token of her gratitude.
Naturally, Master Oswald understood that what followed the expression of gratitude would be a request for assistance in contacting her descendants. However, he was still quite delighted: After so many years in Immortal World, he finally had a chance to interact with a fairy closely!
When the three fairies learned that their lineage had been lost in the lower realm and that their gates had been reduced to ruins, two of them beca aloof towards Master Oswald, thanking him and then leaving. Only one, who was naturally kind-hearted, wanted to pick so Fairy Peaches from her Immortal Garden and give them to him as a token of her gratitude for his help.
When she delivered the peaches, Master Oswald revealed to her that he could assist in reopening the gates in the lower realm and reestablishing her lineage. The fairy was overjoyed, although she didn’t offer herself as a reward.
But the news inevitably spread, and when the other two fairies ca to ask for help, Master Oswald refused to see them. Now Master Oswald had the privilege to act this way, since other people seeking favours were lining up to et with him.
The immortals all knew about Master Oswald’s “great supernatural powers”, that he could settle everything in the lower realm! Their deanor was even more humbly affable this ti, and so even displayed their sycophantic side!
