A few more minutes passed, and the situation at the "mountain of flesh" had completely changed.
Not many Poisonous Soaring Ghosts remained; only a scattered few were left.
The horde below—Abnormal Ghosts, Ghost-faced Spiders, fiends, Poisonous Cannon Fiends, and other creatures—numbered in the tens of thousands. They had been hiding in the forest, but the corrupting power of the Blood Essence Stone had lured most of them out.
Most of the creatures in the small mountain of flesh were dead. The remaining thousand or two were buried beneath the collapsed gore, making them scattered and difficult to kill.
Fang Zhen felt the corrupting power emanating from the Blood Essence Stone begin to weaken. Even from a great distance, he could sense that the agitation it caused was starting to fade.
At this point, the battle was all but decided. Most of the creatures had been killed.
The Eternal Night Council’s siege plot—a high-altitude surprise attack using Poisonous Soaring Ghosts from beyond the Whig Society’s counterattack range—had been utterly shattered by Fang Zhen.
Fang Zhen continued spraying the Blood Burst Secret dicine below, but he suddenly realized the drone’s supply was empty.
At that mont, he sensed that the Blood Essence Stone’s power was also about to expire.
The Blood Essence Stone suddenly cracked and then crumbled into dust, its power to attract the creatures gone.
There were still so Poisonous Soaring Ghosts in the sky, but they were no longer in formation. Only a few dozen remained.
Fang Zhen stopped paying attention to the Poisonous Soaring Ghosts and told Karen, "Karen, bring the drone back."
Karen did as he was told, piloting the drone to circle back toward them.
But at that very mont, a crimson line shot out from the edge of the distant forest.
The crimson line was incredibly fast, almost like a red laser. With a BANG, it pierced through the drone Karen was piloting.
Karen cried out in alarm. The drone had been hit, and it exploded, bursting into flas in mid-air before plumting to the ground.
Fang Zhen’s brow twitched sharply.
’What’s going on?’
In an instant, Fang Zhen had a guess as to what had happened.
’This attack was most likely a long-range skill, unleashed by a distant mber of the Eternal Night Council—or perhaps its Vice-Chairman—to shoot down the drone.’
Fang Zhen moved to pilot his other drone back, but just then, another crimson beam lanced through the sky and struck it.
Fang Zhen’s drone was destroyed as well.
His drone spiraled unsteadily to the ground and shattered.
He frowned. ’The mbers and Vice-Chairman of the Eternal Night Council certainly have a few tricks up their sleeves.’
Just then, West, who was standing beside Fang Zhen, cried out in alarm.
"I’ve seen this technique before! It uses so kind of Alchemy Equipnt. It has to be the Vice-Chairman of the Eternal Night Council!"
"The Vice-Chairman of the Eternal Night Council is here! That was one of his long-range kill shots!"
A chill went down Fang Zhen’s spine.
’I thought I was the only one with a long-range sniping ability,’ he thought. ’I didn’t expect that the Whig Society’s Anglo and the Eternal Night Council’s Vice-Chairman would have super-long-range attacks as well.’
’But then again,’ he deduced, ’the Vice-Chairman’s ability can’t be sothing he can just use at will.’
’If that were the case, he would have shot down the drones earlier, while I was using them to gather the creatures with the Blood Essence Stone and kill them with the Blood Burst Secret dicine.’
’The fact that he’s only attacking now ans the skill must have an extrely long wind-up ti.’
’He must have only just finished preparing.’
Fang Zhen sighed inwardly.
He actually had quite a few drones with him. In addition to three large, agricultural DJI-type drones capable of spraying pesticides, he had also brought several smaller ones.
But now two of the large ones were destroyed, leaving only one that was loaded with a full tank of gasoline.
’I’ll have to be careful with it. If this last one gets shot down, I might not have ti to get another one ready.’
’The battlefield is constantly changing. If I were to leave Lanxi City, there’s no telling what other bizarre tactics the enemy might use to attack, or if the city would fall.’
The drones had been shot down, but morale in Lanxi City didn’t drop.
The results Fang Zhen had just achieved were simply too astonishing. The loss of a couple of drones was nothing in comparison; it was like losing a one-dollar coin after winning the lottery.
Seeing that Fang Zhen had wiped out so many of the creatures, and that only a handful of the most threatening Poisonous Soaring Ghosts remained, the morale of the Whig Society mbers on the wall soared.
A roar of triumphant cheers erupted from atop the city walls.
The Curse Sealers and soldiers on the wall cheered loudly, their spirits high and their passion inflad.
