Connor Hai Chao remained silent, a cold smirk on his face as he watched Avera slumped on the ground.

Just then, the Obsidian Gate Fang Zhen had entered through flared with light, and a black-haired, masked woman dressed in black stepped out.

Following right behind her, two more figures appeared, dressed in the sa black attire with black masks.

Fang Zhen narrowed his eyes slightly.

'People from the Night Shadow Family.'

Though he couldn't see the lead woman's face, he recognized her instantly.

She was one of the Night Shadow Family mbers who had ambushed him at the entrance to the Path of the Dead; perhaps she was even their leader.

"la Night Shadow. The most talented assassin of her generation in the Night Shadow Family," Aiden Lei ng said, his eyes filled with wariness as he looked at the lead woman in black.

la Night Shadow hadn't seed to expect such a lively scene either.

After observing for a mont, la seed to have read the room.

la looked at Avera and said coldly, "It seems you've failed, you of the Fei Niao Family."

"The temporary contract between the Night Shadow Family and the Fei Niao Family is now void."

"A contract?" Aiden frowned.

Connor Hai Chao appeared lost in thought for a mont before realization dawned on his face. He then shot Avera a mocking look.

Fang Zhen raised an eyebrow at her words.

He instantly understood what was happening.

'They said there were several factions on the Isle of Rest, but they must have secretly ford alliances long ago to seize the Legendary King's treasure together.'

'The Lei ng and Sea Tide Families have probably already ford a powerful alliance.'

'And Avera of the Fei Niao Family secretly negotiated a temporary contract with la of the Night Shadow Family.'

'Avera wasn't working alone; she likely used her knowledge to win over the Night Shadow Family.'

'la Night Shadow is a skilled assassin, but she couldn't win a direct confrontation against the combined Lei ng and Sea Tide families. So she took a different approach, planning to traverse the Path of the Dead with Avera.'

'The Night Shadow Family's assassination attempt on

at the entrance to the Path of the Dead wasn't because they had a personal grudge. It was most likely a misunderstanding—they probably thought I had taken Avera hostage.'

'What the Night Shadow Family truly wanted was to cooperate with Avera, which is why they went after

for getting in their way.'

'That explains why Avera just stood there and didn't lift a finger.'

'And the fact that la Night Shadow could erge from the Path of the Dead ans she has a way of dealing with the phantoms. There are still over a hundred of them in that passage.'

'That was probably why Avera allied with the Night Shadow Family in the first place.'

'Except, I shattered Avera's original plan.'

Fang Zhen pieced the relationships together, his eyes narrowing slightly.

'I knew it,' he thought. 'This dungeon wasn't going to be that simple to clear.'

'The Forbidden Realm Gatekeeper was certainly tough, but a single Gatekeeper and a few phantoms weren't enough to justify the difficulty level.'

Now he understood.

'To claim Anlon Lie Feng's treasure, I'll have to clear the field of everyone here first.'

'This level of difficulty is about right for a dungeon set in an Elite Realm.'

Just then.

The Obsidian Gate to the Path of the Dead flared with light once more.

The developnt startled even la Night Shadow, who swiftly dodged away from the Obsidian Gate.

Fang Zhen, seeing this, was also surprised.

'There are more people?'

'And from the looks of it, they followed la Night Shadow all the way here.'

'The hunter being hunted?'

As he pondered, the Obsidian Gate shimred and rippled.

Two figures gradually ca into focus.

Before one of the figures had even fully erged, a silvery laugh echoed out.

"Oh? What a lively gathering."

"Am I late to the party?"
