Fang Zhen looked at Avera.

He had originally thought this woman wasn't so bad, seeing as she at least knew how to repay a favor. During the fight with the Lei Ming family, she'd even used her Crystal Bone Crow to block a lightning strike for him, which had left a good impression.

But seeing Avera's gloating expression now, Fang Zhen ntally revised his assessnt of her.

Her schadenfreude wasn't necessarily directed at him; perhaps she just wanted to enjoy the Night Shadow Family's predicant. Her current expression wasn't enough to write her off completely.

However, when Fang Zhen had just fought with the people from the Night Shadow Family, Avera had stood off to the side, not interfering at all.

That was the smoking gun.

Avera was not weak, and her Crystal Bone Crow was more powerful than an ordinary Crystal Bone Beast.

Avera definitely could have reacted during the fight, yet she neither intervened nor offered support. She just watched from the sidelines, which spoke volus.

'This woman isn't very trustworthy.'

When she blocked the lightning strike for him during the battle with the Lei Ming family, it wasn't necessarily out of gratitude as he had first thought. It was more likely because she felt she couldn't escape on her own and needed him to act, which was why she'd behaved that way.

After this reassessnt, Fang Zhen adopted a new attitude.

He and Avera were now just using each other.

Fang Zhen needed Avera's knowledge and for her to lead him into the Forbidden Land Netherworld, while Avera needed Fang Zhen's strength for protection.

Before they found Anlon Lie Feng's treasure, there was no overt conflict between them. But after they saw the treasure, that might not be the case.

Fang Zhen decided to guard against Avera and resolved to keep his distance from her.

His face was hidden beneath his steel mask, so Avera couldn't read his expression.

This was another benefit of the Feiyu Iron Wall Armor.

"So what if they're targeting ?"

"First, they have to find . Then, they have to be able to kill ."

"And even if they do find , that's perfect. I can use the Night Shadow Family to hone my anti-assassination skills."

Though Fang Zhen's opinion of Avera had changed, his tone was the sa as ever, betraying nothing.

Avera looked at Fang Zhen for a long mont before speaking. "You really are different from other people. Among everyone I know, even mbers of the other Thirteen Families, they would have sleepless nights, wracked with anxiety, if they learned they were being targeted by the Night Shadow Family."

"After all, it's impossible for soone to stay on high alert at all tis, but an assassin can strike at any mont."

"I don't know if it's ignorance or courage, but of all the people I know, you're the only one who would say sothing like that."

"Heh, confidence cos from strength," Fang Zhen said.

He wasn't afraid, anyway.

'The Night Shadow Family's assassins are that good?'

'Let's see you chase

back to Blue Star!'

"You're not modest at all," Avera said. "It makes

quite curious. Where did you learn all these strange skills? They don't look like Crystal Bone Techniques. And your equipnt is very odd, too."

Fang Zhen replied, "I told you, I'm a traveler. When you walk the world, you're bound to run into all sorts of strange people and things, not to ntion monsters and demons. You can just think of them as wraiths and bandits."

"I wouldn't have survived this long without so skills."

"Oh."

"What about you?" Fang Zhen asked in return. "You seem to know a lot. How did the Fei Niao Family end up in such a miserable state?"

"It's a long story, hard to explain in just a few words. Let's not talk about it for now." Avera put on a deeply emotional expression, though it was impossible to tell if she was just acting.

The two of them probed each other with words, but neither learned anything of value.

'What a great actress!'

'He's really putting on an act.'

Similar thoughts flashed through both Fang Zhen's and Avera's minds.

Although they each had their own agendas, they still had a basis for cooperation for the ti being, so neither of them called the other out.

"So, how do we get down?" Fang Zhen asked, looking at the natural shaft leading underground.

"My Crystal Bone Beast can lower us down slowly," Avera said, taking out the bird-head-shaped Crystal Bone. "But once we're down there, the wraiths inside are your problem."

"I can't deal with wraiths. If you can't either, we'll be stuck there, which would be very awkward."

Fang Zhen thought for a mont and asked, "Besides being immune to physical attacks, what other characteristics do wraiths have? Do you know of any other weaknesses?"

Although he felt the Kun Sha Seal would be effective, he had never tested it, after all.

To be safe, it was best to have a backup plan.

"Well... I rember now. Wraiths don't like fire. They'll avoid ordinary flas. But we'll be going through the Path of the Dead. The wraiths there rely dislike fire; they have ways to extinguish torches. An ordinary fla will be snuffed out the mont a wraith passes through it."

"Unless you have an unquenchable fla, which might be able to harm a wraith. But from what I know, even the flas produced by a Crystal Bone Master using Crystal Bone Techniques are not much different from ordinary fire, just a bit hotter."

"An unquenchable fla is basically impossible."

"Oh?" Hearing this, Fang Zhen imdiately felt relieved.

'Wraiths are weak to fire?'

'An unquenchable fla, huh?'

He had Magic Grease.

While a Magic Fla couldn't be called unquenchable, it would have no problem burning for thirty minutes.

As for why wraiths hated fire, Fang Zhen guessed they were so kind of residual energy, perhaps sothing like electromagnetic waves. High temperatures would produce radiation that would affect a wraith's existence.

All intelligent beings instinctively dislike things that threaten their survival.

Wraiths probably had so degree of intelligence, which was why they hated flas that could release high-temperature radiation.

If that was the principle, then it was entirely possible he could kill the wraiths by saring so Magic Grease on his longspear and setting them on fire.
