Chapter 130: Chapter 105: Science Plus Alchemy
Xia Siwei was wearing a red, Bohemian-style dress. She had changed her hairstyle as well, with braids on either side and sunglasses perched on her head.
Fang Zhen raised his hand in greeting and walked over.
"Changed your style, huh?" he said to Xia Siwei with a smile.
"Yep, for a change of mood." Xia Siwei seed to be in high spirits. She even turned halfway around and said, "How do I look?"
"Fiery and passionate. It suits you," Fang Zhen said.
"Hehehe," Xia Siwei’s mood brightened even more. She turned around and said, "Let’s go. I’ll take you to et my aunt."
"Alright."
Fang Zhen and Xia Siwei entered the main doors of Siyu dical.
The first floor of Siyu dical was the main lobby. It was quite luxuriously decorated—spacious and bright. The floor tiles had clearly been carefully selected, the walls were made of gray stone, and the air was remarkably fresh.
Xia Siwei was clearly a frequent visitor. She walked ahead and explained, "My aunt works here. She’s the person in charge and also has a Ph.D. in dicine."
"She’s actually only ten years older than . Though she’s my elder, it feels more like we’re peers. My aunt and I are very close. I really admire her—taking charge of the lab at a dical institution like this in her early thirties. She’s a real powerhouse."
"Yeah, to be the head of this dical lab in her thirties, she must have more than just a solid academic background. Her professional experience, managent skills, and achievents in the dical field must all be top-notch. That’s very impressive," Fang Zhen said.
"Right?" It was clear that Xia Siwei held her aunt in high esteem.
Fang Zhen wasn’t surprised.
Xia Siwei had never ntioned her family background, but she gave off the impression of coming from a well-to-do, perhaps highly educated family. It made sense that such a family would produce a dical Ph.D. who was also the head of a dical institution.
The two walked to the elevator and went up to the third floor. Along the way, Xia Siwei chatted with Fang Zhen about interesting things she had seen and heard.
Fang Zhen was starting to get a good sense of Xia Siwei’s personality. She was an extrovert who liked to talk, but she wasn’t a chatterbox, nor was she annoying.
Before long, they arrived at an office door.
After knocking, Xia Siwei opened the door and went in, with Fang Zhen following close behind.
Inside the office, a female doctor in a white lab coat and glasses was looking at a paper report on her desk.
The doctor didn’t look like she was over thirty; she appeared to be only twenty-seven or twenty-eight. Her eyes, clear as water, glead with focused light. She had long, elegantly arched eyebrows that were a bit sharp, but this was softened by a cascade of long hair, making her seem less intimidating. Her hair fell smoothly and neatly over her shoulders, looking as if it had been perfectly arranged.
The doctor had a poised and coolly elegant deanor. Her red lips and white teeth hinted at both ticulousness and gentleness. The plain dical scrubs she wore were an unremarkable outfit, yet her natural presence made them seem exceptionally eye-catching.
"Weiwei?"
The doctor stood up.
"Auntie~"
Xia Siwei walked over and gave the doctor an enthusiastic hug.
Fang Zhen watched, thinking both ladies were generously built and their embrace was a passionate one.
It was obvious that Xia Siwei and her aunt were very close. The doctor’s face showed a hint of resignation, but mostly it was a look of doting affection and care.
Xia Siwei hugged her aunt with playful affection for a mont before letting go.
"And this is?" The doctor turned her head to look at Fang Zhen.
"He’s my friend. Let
introduce you. This is my friend, Fang Zhen. And this intelligent and charming lady is my aunt, Zheng Yachen," Xia Siwei said.
"Dr. Zheng, it’s a pleasure to et you." Fang Zhen offered a polite greeting.
He didn’t know Zheng Yachen, and their eting was for business. He figured it was best not to say too much—just be polite and avoid making any mistakes.
"A pleasure." Zheng Yachen nodded in response.
"Weiwei, did you bring your friend here for sothing specific?" Zheng Yachen asked.
"Yep. Fang Zhen wants to get a biological fluid sample tested, so I recomnded your facility. See how nice I am? I’m even advertising for your institution," Xia Siwei said.
Hearing it was business, Zheng Yachen’s deanor imdiately turned professional.
She pushed up the glasses on her nose and asked, "Mr. Fang, what kind of test are you looking to have done? So of the tests we conduct at Siyu dical are quite authoritative and have international ISO certification."
"Siyu’s test reports et international standards and quality control requirents. For genetic testing, for example, we follow the guidelines and standards of the ACMG—the Arican College of dical Genetics and Genomics—and also comply with national standards."
"If it involves international dical collaboration, Siyu’s test reports will also have additional certification and confirmation to ensure quality and accuracy."
"It doesn’t need to be that professional." Having gotten past the initial greetings, Fang Zhen relaxed a bit. He said, "I’m not looking for genetic testing. It’s just a routine experint to test a non-human biological fluid—cerebrospinal fluid, specifically. I want to see which chemicals or drugs cause a severe or toxic reaction."
"I see," Zheng Yachen nodded slightly. "In that case, I’d recomnd a tissue sample analysis and so biochemical experints. However, the cost for a biopsy is typically quite high."
"Oh? How much would that be, approximately?" Fang Zhen asked.
"Probably between 2,000 and 10,000," Zheng Yachen replied. "It mainly depends on the complexity of the tests and the technology required. You’ll receive a detailed itemized list, with the cost of each test marked separately."
"Of course, if it’s a routine test, like hormone levels, vitamin and mineral levels, or allergen testing, the price would be much lower, roughly between 100 and 1,000."
Fang Zhen heard this and thought it was acceptable.
He had looked up Siyu dical on his way over. It was a reputable institution, known for being legitimate and professional, with all the proper certifications. It was quite famous in Xiahai.
He had also checked their price list for tests.
Siyu’s fees were a bit high, but not outrageous.
"Alright, let’s do that, then. I brought the sample with ," Fang Zhen said.
From his bag, he took out a glass bottle containing the Abnormal Ghost’s cerebrospinal fluid and walked over to place it on Zheng Yachen’s desk.
Zheng Yachen’s eyes fell on the bottle of cerebrospinal fluid. It was the size of an apple, with a frosted glass appearance, and was stoppered with a wooden cork. A hint of surprise flickered across her face.
"The packaging for this sample is..." Zheng Yachen couldn’t help but comnt.
"A bit unique, I know," Fang Zhen finished her sentence.
"Hehehe, you’re very humorous, Mr. Fang," Zheng Yachen let out a laugh. Her smile was truly dazzling, with bright eyes and pearly teeth, leaving a deep impression.
"Can the experint be done?" Fang Zhen was in no mood to appreciate the beautiful mont before him and asked.
"If the sample isn’t contaminated, it should be possible. I’ll take it to the lab and ask. Soone is working overti tonight," Zheng Yachen said.
A dozen or so minutes later.
Zheng Yachen had everything arranged.
The sample Fang Zhen brought could be used for the experints without any major issues.
The official procedures were followed, and the sample and test details were registered.
The test report would be ready in 12 hours at the earliest, or 3 days at the latest.
When the report was ready, a text ssage would be sent to the phone number Fang Zhen had provided.
Fang Zhen prepaid 20,000 for the testing fees. The final amount would be settled—refunded or topped up—once the report and the list of charged items were complete.
With all the procedures complete, Fang Zhen could finally relax.
He added Zheng Yachen on WeChat, and also followed Siyu’s Official Account and Mini Program.
Siyu dical seed quite legitimate. There was no negative press about them, and based on online information that clearly wasn’t from paid shills or sponsored content, they seed quite authoritative.
Fang Zhen planned to keep this connection. He never knew when he might need it in the future.
After taking care of everything, he exchanged a few polite words with Zheng Yachen and prepared to leave.
He ca to Siyu dical to run an experint and spent a considerable amount of money, all for a single purpose.
To use scientific thods to figure out if the Abnormal Ghost had any weaknesses.
In the world of the instance, as Gwendolyn would put it, this was a form of ’alchemy’.
Scientific alchemy.
Fang Zhen had a feeling that there was a shortcut to be found in the Ancient Castle Caverns.
He had learned the curse seals, and they were very useful, but they didn’t seem like the kind of thing that would help him speedrun the Ancient Castle Caverns.
In his line of thinking, if the shortcut to speedrunning the instance wasn’t the curse seals, then it was likely the Alchemy Poison that was highly effective against these aberrations.
Gwendolyn was working on this, and if she succeeded, she would share it with Fang Zhen.
Fang Zhen had a proactive personality; he didn’t want to just passively wait for Gwendolyn’s results. Having Siyu dical run tests was another avenue of approach.
He figured that combining science with alchemy had to increase the success rate by at least 50%, right?
Once the process was complete, Fang Zhen returned to Zheng Yachen’s office.
"Thank you, Dr. Zheng, and thank you too, Siwei," Fang Zhen said. "Sorry to have troubled you by having you accompany
on this trip."
"I’m just happy that you trust us at Siyu. Besides, you’re Weiwei’s friend," Zheng Yachen said.
As she spoke, Zheng Yachen turned her head to look at Xia Siwei and asked, "Weiwei, why have you gone so quiet?"
"No, no, no, it’s just that you two were being so professional, I didn’t dare interrupt," Xia Siwei said, waving her hands.
Fang Zhen smiled and stood up.
"My business here is finished, so I won’t disturb you any longer."
"Siwei, don’t forget next Sunday night. I keep my promises," he said his goodbyes.
"Okay! I’m going to chat with my aunt for a bit longer. Bye-bye~" Xia Siwei waved.
Fang Zhen nodded, said goodbye to Zheng Yachen again, then turned and left the office, closing the door behind him.
「After Fang Zhen left.」
Only Zheng Yachen and Xia Siwei remained in the room.
"Weiwei, what’s your relationship with Fang Zhen?"
"A potential boyfriend?"
Zheng Yachen’s expression was no longer as professional and serious as before. She looked very relaxed as she questioned Xia Siwei.
"No, just a regular friend. We only t recently, but I have a good feeling about him," Xia Siwei replied.
"I could tell you have a good feeling about him. I’ve never seen you bring a guy to et
before," Zheng Yachen said.
"Auntie, you know , I’m a feeler. I make friends based on my intuition," Xia Siwei said. "I just get the sense that Fang Zhen is different from other people. I can’t quite put my finger on how, but anyway, the feeling is good, so I’ll get to know him first."
"That’s fine. Just observe him for a while. Society is so ssy these days, and you’re relatively naive. Be careful not to get tricked," Zheng Yachen nodded.
"It’s not that serious. It’s not like the world is a monster’s den," Xia Siwei said. "I’ve traveled halfway across the planet, you know. I’m not as easily fooled as you think. I’m not an idiot."
"Mhm, mhm, yes, yes, I know, I know," Zheng Yachen said with a smile, revealing a mischievous side she wouldn’t show to outsiders.
"That’s so insincere! You’re just humoring , Auntie. Watch
punish you!" In front of a familiar relative, Xia Siwei also showed her childish side. She made a gesture like she was casting a magic spell, then lunged for Zheng Yachen’s chest.
...
Fang Zhen walked out of Siyu dical, ready to call a ride-share. As he did, he opened WeChat.
Just then, he saw a ssage from Wang Donglai.
"What’s up, bro? Why are you getting body fluids tested? That has nothing to do with your line of work, does it?"
Fang Zhen chuckled. His brother was quite concerned about him.
He suddenly rembered sothing and replied: "Never mind the dical test for now. By the way, do you know anywhere that rents out warehouses or factory buildings? I need a place that’s discreet and has good security."
