Chapter 777: Chapter 777: Sleeping Separately!

In mid-October, Si Bao and Xuan Jiayi had a quarrel.

The father and son had a long video chat while Zhang Yuxi listened from the side.

Truthfully, argunts are perfectly normal for couples, married or not. Si Bao had a carefree personality, while Xuan Jiayi was cautious and ticulous in love. It hadn’t been easy for the two of them to make it this far.

The cause of the fight was simple: they had run out of protection. Xuan Jiayi said she didn’t mind, but he did.

Si Bao was playful by nature and wasn’t ready to be a father, so he had no plans for children just yet. Xuan Jiayi, however, had long been eager to beco a mother and wanted to have a child with him. He couldn’t win the argunt, and the next morning, he found the protection hidden under the clothes in their wardrobe.

He got angry and asked Xuan Jiayi why she had hidden it. They had already agreed to enjoy a few more years of their life together before starting a family. She had promised, so he was furious that she had gone back on her word.

Lin Feng and Zhang Yuxi could only listen; giving advice wasn’t sothing they were equipped to do. Lin Feng had only been in two relationships. The first one ended prematurely when he t the wrong kind of woman. The other was with Zhang Yuxi, a sort of marriage-first, love-later situation that had gone remarkably smoothly. Zhang Yuxi wasn’t much different; Lin Feng was more or less her first love. With a history like that, they hardly had a wealth of experience to draw from.

After listening for a while, Lin Feng spoke slowly, "Si Bao, I can be a sounding board for you, but that’s about it."

"Putting emotions aside for a mont, you two have completely different personalities. It’s bound to take ti to find your rhythm. And in relationships, just like in anything else, you have to try to see things from the other person’s perspective and communicate more."

Well, it feels like I said sothing, but at the sa ti, it feels like I said nothing at all.

After venting, Si Bao felt much better. "Dad, I’ve told her so many tis that I love her and that I’ll never leave her, but she’s just so insecure..."

Another half an hour passed before Lin Feng let out a long sigh of relief. "Ah, it’s finally over."

Zhang Yuxi chuckled from beside him. "Si Bao would be heartbroken if he heard that."

Lin Feng was unconcerned. "It’s fine. People just need to vent when they’re going through sothing. With those two, one’s willing to dish it out and the other’s willing to take it. What can you even say?"

Zhang Yuxi, however, felt a sense of responsibility. "This can’t go on forever. Maybe we should find a chance to talk to her."

Lin Feng countered, "About what? Do you really think you can solve another couple’s problems?"

Angry, Zhang Yuxi thumped his chest. "Be serious!"

Lin Feng found matters of the heart to be the biggest headache. In his mind, it was simple: relationships are mutual. If it doesn’t work, you separate. Watching them seesaw back and forth was just exhausting. Yet, the young people seed to thrive on it. What did that prove?

It proves they aren’t mature yet. Once they are, and they know what they truly want, everything will be fine.

"I think if they really did have a child, it would be a good thing," he mused aloud. "Si Bao would finally settle down, and Xuan Jiayi wouldn’t have to be so insecure all the ti."

Zhang Yuxi was so annoyed she stopped talking and simply walked away.

Lin Feng was baffled. "???"

Huh? Was I wrong?

Ten minutes later, Lin Feng went to the study with a smile, only to find Zhang Yuxi sitting forlornly by the window, clearly intending to ignore him.

"Are you mad at

for not caring about the kids? You’ve got

all wrong. I’ve raised them since they were two months old. Who could possibly care more than ? But you know as well as I do that you can’t interfere in matters of the heart. We might just make things worse."

Lin Feng spoke for so ti before Zhang Yuxi finally reacted. "What do you, a man, know about it?"

"Right, right, you’re absolutely right. I don’t know anything! So... you do?"

"Of course I know what Xuan Jiayi is thinking. She’s... she’s in the sa boat I am right now."

Lin Feng chose his words carefully. "I’m all ears."

Zhang Yuxi looked at his handso, unweathered face and felt as if her frustration was a punch landing on soft cotton—completely useless.

Finally, she sighed. "We need to talk."

Alarm bells blared in Lin Feng’s mind. This... this... we were just talking about the kids. How did this suddenly beco about us?

When a woman says "we need to talk," it usually ans the relationship is in the red zone, and the problem is a serious one.

Zhang Yuxi cupped Lin Feng’s face, her expression sorrowful. "Honey, do you have any idea how much pressure I’m under lately? Back then, even though I was a few years older, I took good care of myself and I was attractive. I thought I had nothing to worry about. But look at you now, still so handso, still so..."

Lin Feng gave a mischievous grin. "Still so... what?"

Zhang Yuxi couldn’t bring herself to smile. "I’m getting older. I can feel ti slipping away, while you’re still in your pri.

"Looking at you, and then seeing all those young won out there... it’s terrifying. I’m afraid you’ll start to think I’m old, that you’ll hate my body for changing...

"Will there co a day when you finally get tired of

and marry so young, beautiful girl? And then you’ll tell her you love her, and you’ll do all the things we did, all over again with her..."

Just saying the words made her heart ache as if it were being pierced. She couldn’t bear that day ever coming; she didn’t even dare to imagine it.

Seeing her like this pained Lin Feng. The Zhang Yuxi he knew had always been such a proud woman. "Don’t be silly. I’ll love you for a lifeti. Forever!" he said, pulling her close. "Co here, mwah."

Sobbing, she said, "How could you possibly love

for a lifeti? You’ll change your mind..."

"Nonsense! I love you for your inner beauty, not your looks!"

"Bullshit! You were attracted to my looks from the very beginning..."

"No, not at all! I didn’t even get a clear look at you at first, so don’t make things up! I’ve always loved all of you, from start to finish."

"A man’s mouth is full of empty promises. You have a line for every occasion to charm a woman, but who knows what the future holds."

"Sigh, what can I possibly say to make you believe ? How about I make a vow? If I ever stop loving you, may I be struck down by lightning!"

"A vow? You think an old trick like that is going to fool ?"

Alright, so that wasn’t going to work. Lin Feng decided a more practical approach was needed. "Fine, then let’s talk facts and logic. Okay?"

Zhang Yuxi looked at him through her tears, waiting for his facts and logic.

Lin Feng gently wiped her tears away as he spoke carefully. "Hypothetically, let’s just say we really did get a divorce. If I went and found soone younger, wouldn’t our four kids—no, five—skin

alive?"

"Stop. Just stop. Listen to ..."

But Zhang Yuxi cut him off, refusing to listen. "So what you’re saying is, you would find soone new, but you’re just too scared to do it because of the kids. Is that it? Don’t let them stop you. You’re their father. What could they possibly do to stop you? If you want to find soone else, then go ahead. I’ll just tell the children we divorced amicably and that we’ll live our own separate lives."

Lin Feng was completely floored. "I... It was a hypothetical! Don’t you understand ’hypothetical’?"

Her face turned cold, her tears gone. "A lot of tests start with a ’hypothetical.’ So you were just testing the waters. Fine, you’ve been thinking about it. I’ll give you what you want."

Lin Feng was speechless for a mont. "Um, honey, can I just say you have an incredibly active imagination?"

This only made Zhang Yuxi feel worse. "Starting today, we’re sleeping in separate beds!"
