Chapter 749: Chapter 749: Second Uncle Passed Away

「Mid-August.」

Lin Daan was suddenly admitted to the hospital and had fallen into a coma.

When Lin Feng received the call, it was already midnight. He hurriedly got dressed to check on the situation. Zhang Yuxi was worried, but Lin Feng told her to take care of things at ho and wait for news.

After he rushed to the hospital, his Second Aunt, Lin Jiajun, Wang Lu, and their two children were all there. The light outside the ergency room remained red.

With her back to them, Second Aunt cried continually. Wang Lu comforted her, while Lin Jiajun remained silent.

"The light went out."

Then they saw a nurse pushing Lin Daan out, followed by a doctor. The doctor explained that they had managed to resuscitate him from the coma this ti, but they couldn’t guarantee the sa outco in the future. He advised them to be ntally prepared and to get his affairs in order.

When Lin Feng returned ho, the house was quiet.

Zhang Yuxi awoke with a start. "How is Second Uncle?"

After a long pause, Zhang Yuxi said, "I hope when my ti cos, I pass away in my sleep, without any pain."

This, perhaps, was a pipe dream.

Lin Feng told her not to let her imagination run wild. Second Aunt and the others had already started making arrangents, and Lin Feng had also told his children to prepare, hoping they could see him one last ti.

The next day, when the two elders learned of this, they were silent for a mont before speaking.

"Let’s go see him."

This ti, the entire family went.

He lay in a hospital bed, breathing with the aid of a ventilator. He was in a private room this ti, as Lin Daan could no longer speak with them.

"Is he still asleep?" Lin Dashan asked gravely.

Second Aunt pursed her lips. "He woke up for a bit, gave so instructions, and then fell asleep again."

"I’ve inford all the relatives, telling them to co for a final visit."

Lin Dashan nodded. "Lin Feng notified the children today. They said they’ll try to co back in the next day or two."

On Saturday, the eldest son arrived in Yangcheng.

On Sunday evening, the third daughter and Shao Yang returned. It was a rare and lively al for a family that had gathered under such somber circumstances.

At the hospital, the children went to see Lin Daan. Second Aunt had called to say he was awake and urged them to co quickly, as she didn’t know how long he would remain conscious.

By this ti, Lin Daan could no longer speak. His complexion was ashen, and his eyes were unfocused.

The children called out "Second Granduncle" several tis before he finally responded, slowly turning his gaze toward them.

He lifted his hand slightly, as if trying to say sothing. The eldest son imdiately took his hand.

"Second Granduncle, we’re all doing fine, so you don’t need to worry about us!"

"You don’t have to worry about our marriages either. Each of our relationships is sure to blossom."

"And it’s not just us. Our entire generation will remain united, helping and supporting one another. Please, rest assured!"

What the eldest son said seed to be exactly what he wanted to hear. He tugged at the corner of his mouth, as if in a satisfied smile.

On the way back, everyone was silent. As they neared ho, Lin Jiajun’s call ca.

Lin Feng had a bad feeling.

Sure enough, Lin Daan, his second uncle and the children’s second granduncle, had passed away.

Lin Feng pulled the car over to the side of the road and turned to look at his parents.

Lin Dashan said flatly, "We already know."

Seeing him one last ti had settled a matter in their hearts, leaving no regrets.

They chose an all-in-one funeral service that handled everything perfectly. Their eldest paternal aunt and Lin Dahu had both been buried in their hotown, and Lin Daan had previously expressed his wish to be laid to rest there as well.

Checking the calendar, the earliest date for the burial was three days later; otherwise, they would have to wait two months. In the sumr heat, even a refrigerated casket couldn’t wait that long. After a brief discussion, they settled on three days from now.

On the day of the burial, everyone wore black, and sorrow was etched on every face. The youngest child followed silently by Lin Feng’s side.

Afterward, Lin Dashan shut himself in his room.

As of today, he had no parents and no brothers left.

Zhou Cuilan sighed. "Let him have so peace and quiet."

That evening, Lin Dashan erged from his room with his usual deanor, though everyone could see that he had been crying.

Having personally experienced the departure of a loved one, the four older siblings and the youngest child cherished their ti with family more than ever.

After everyone else had gone to sleep, the four siblings, who rarely got to gather like this, ordered takeout.

Drinking a beer, the second daughter’s gaze swept over each of their faces.

"From now on, we will all get together at least five tis a year! Any objections?"

No one objected; instead, they all voiced their enthusiastic agreent.

The second daughter’s gaze fell on the third daughter. She had the furthest to travel, a journey of nearly forty hours by plane. Just thinking about it irritated her. She couldn’t do anything to her sister, but she had ways of dealing with her brother-in-law. She glared fiercely at Shao Yang. It’s all his fault for whisking our sister away!

Shao Yang hung his head, as quiet as a mouse.

With a cold snort, the second daughter laid out her plan.

"Barring any surprises, the eldest brother, the fourth brother, and I will all be settling in Jingcheng. It’s not far from Yangcheng, which is great."

"It’s just our third sister who will have to make the long trips. But when we’re free, we’ll all co and visit you."

Then, the third daughter dropped a bombshell. "Who knows? We might have already broken up by then."

Shao Yang turned pale.

They weren’t even married yet, and she was already thinking about breaking up? No way. That can’t happen.

The third daughter turned her head and added pragmatically, "Who can say for sure, right?"

"Don’t worry," Shao Yang muttered, "there’s no chance of that!"

The third daughter fell silent, leaving Shao Yang to fu, completely at a loss for words.

The third daughter’s work was flexible, allowing her to spend a month or so in Yangcheng this ti. The fourth brother had taken leave, and given the passing of an elder, his superiors told him to return in half a month. As for the eldest brother, he was granted ten days of extended leave. It couldn’t be helped; his work was too important, and ten days had been approved only with great reluctance.

Elsewhere, it was customary to hold a funeral banquet. When their eldest paternal aunt passed away so suddenly, they hadn’t held one. Lin Dahu had said not to hold one when he passed, so there was no need to hold one for Lin Daan either.

Lin Dashan was deeply grieved for a long ti on the day of the burial, but eventually, he recovered and seed back to his usual self. At their age, death was a journey everyone had to take sooner or later. Once the grieving was done, there were no more tears to cry.

Life, as it always does, had to go on.
