Chapter 664: Chapter 664 A Family Reunion
After the variety show aired, Lin Feng and Xiaobao unsurprisingly beca popular once again. Right now, Xiaobao’s fa in the industry was unmatched, surpassed only by Lin Feng himself. His appearance on the show demonstrated to everyone that even a remote, wealthy magnate could be as kind and approachable as an ordinary father.
After the show beca a huge hit on the platform, invitations from other production teams naturally poured in. The appearance fees they offered were considerable, but Lin Feng refused them all. It was almost the New Year!
Xiaobao’s winter howork was finally finished a week before the holidays.
This year, Lin Jie’s entire family would be returning to icheng for the New Year, and Lin Feng’s family was going back with them. Sanbao would also be on break and coming ho. A week before the holiday, Lin Feng brought Zhang Yuxi and Xiaobao back to icheng first.
This was Erbao’s busiest ti of year. She had too much on her plate and had to work right up until the twenty-eighth of the twelfth lunar month.
Erbao’s company was on the right track. It had started with video production and educational apps, and now she was collaborating with Lin Feng on ga developnt. Her first title, a match-three puzzle ga, had officially launched two months ago. It was well-received and stood out among a plethora of similar gas. Her team had ingeniously created versions for both adults and children. The children’s version was especially important, as it allowed kids to learn new things while they played. Backend data showed that it was very popular among younger players.
Therefore, her new ga was scheduled to launch on the second day of the Lunar New Year.
Besides the app, Erbao’s design business was equally busy. Before every holiday season, she would receive a large number of dostic and international orders. The orders were secondary, however. What was truly paramount was the launch of twenty new items for the spring collection right after the New Year.
Erbao and Sanbao had arranged to return ho together on the twenty-eighth of the twelfth lunar month.
Dabao had joined a national scientific research team and was juggling several projects. In the past, they could still see him or have a video call now and then. Now, he was rarely seen at all. When others were resting, he was online; when others were online, he was resting. Due to the sensitive nature of his work, Dabao didn’t often carry his phone, and one could only catch a glimpse of him online late at night. He too would have to delay his return ho for the New Year. He was just going through the motions, estimating he would stay for only a day before heading back to his post.
The most leisurely of them all was Sibao. He had started his vacation early and even went on a trip with a few good friends before finally heading ho.
Over the past few years, Lin Dashan and his wife had remained fairly robust. Lin Daan, however, was constantly plagued by illnesses, both minor and major. He was always on dication and had beco so thin he was almost unrecognizable. Despite this, the two brothers had grown incredibly close. They now sat together daily for tea and occasionally played cards. Sotis they would go to the park to watch others play chess.
Influenced by their husbands’ new routines, the wives took up gardening. Their old house and land had been requisitioned, leaving them without a single plot. Later, Lin Daan’s wife heard from a friend about a barren hill that so people had begun to clear for farming. You could clear as much land as you wanted to work, a perfect way to pass the ti.
The older they got, the more nostalgic they beca. Zhou Cuilan had once said that after Lin Feng and Lin Jie were married and settled, she and her husband would return to the countryside to farm. With their land gone, this was an opportunity they couldn’t pass up.
That very spring, Lin Dashan and his wife, along with Lin Daan and his wife, drove out to clear the wasteland. They didn’t need a large area, just enough to manage. Once the land was cleared, they started visiting it constantly, making several trips by car each day. The daily cost of fuel was more than buying vegetables, so the two couples conferred and decided to buy electric tricycles. They could make two or three round trips a day, which was just right. When Lin Daan learned of this, he followed suit and bought one too.
They would go to the fields at the crack of dawn and return before the midday sun got too hot. After an afternoon nap, they would head back up around four or five and work until about nine at night before coming ho for dinner and bed. Lin Daan had been even thinner before, but the period of farm work actually helped him recuperate, and he gained so weight.
Won are ultimately more ticulous than n, and their enthusiasm for farming was also greater. So, while Lin Daan and his brother were drinking tea and playing cards, their wives would keep busy by working the land. Now, most of their recreational ti was spent cultivating their little plot. They could then send so of the produce to their children, feeling it was safer and more reassuring to eat what they had grown themselves.
So now, with Lin Feng’s family back ho, the refrigerator was filled with vegetables mostly grown by their parents. They looked different from the ones sold at the market, each one uniquely ugly.
"We’ve just started, so the harvest isn’t good this year. Your Second Aunt and I still have a lot to learn," Zhou Cuilan said. "Next year, when the yield is higher, you can take so back to Yangcheng with you."
Zhang Yuxi said with a smile, "Mom, farming is hard work. You, Dad, Second Uncle, and Second Aunt should all take care of your health."
"We know, don’t you worry," Zhou Cuilan reassured her.
As they got older, Lin Dashan and his wife paid close attention to their health, not wanting to burden their children with any serious illnesses. Although their sons were successful and their grandchildren were all promising, and money wouldn’t be an issue even if they fell gravely ill, it was only natural for parents to not want to be a burden.
Lin Feng’s villa was cleaned weekly, always under Zhou Cuilan’s supervision.
Once they were back in icheng, Sibao took Xiaobao, along with Jiang Anmin and Su Qiqi’s daughter, out to play, leaving the adults to shop for New Year’s goods. There was a big house cleaning to do, new clothes to buy, and lon seeds and candy to stock up on. They also had to make a trip to the bank to withdraw cash.
On the lively evening of the twenty-eighth of the twelfth lunar month, Sanbao had just arrived ho. Right on her heels, Dabao and Erbao drove up.
When she learned they had driven, Zhang Yuxi’s expression turned serious. "Didn’t I tell you to buy your tickets earlier? With the New Year approaching, so many cars are on the road coming back from out of town. What if sothing happened?"
Zhang Yuxi rarely got angry, but when she did, all the children were afraid of her.
Dabao had bought his ticket well in advance, but Erbao and Sanbao had delayed booking theirs. The sisters figured arriving a day later was no big deal, so they planned to travel back with Dabao on the twenty-ninth. Who knew that Dabao, wanting to get ho sooner, had bought a ticket for the day before. In the end, Dabao simply refunded his ticket, and the three of them drove ho together.
They didn’t get ho until after nine.
With a stern face, Zhang Yuxi gave them a rapid-fire lecture. The three promised they would never make such a long drive again.
"You’re all adults now, do you still need to make promises like that? You’re not little kids anymore."
While Dabao, Erbao, and Sanbao pleaded with their eyes for their father to intercede, they dutifully answered, "We’ll be more responsible. This is the last ti, it won’t happen again!"
Lin Feng caught their glances and ca over to play peacemaker. "Your mother is just worried about you. You need to be more understanding of her."
He then turned to Zhang Yuxi with a smile. "The children have already realized their mistake. Let them go rest. They must be exhausted after driving for so long."
Of course, Zhang Yuxi had to give her husband face. Besides, she always deferred to him.
Her expression softened, and she said lightly, "Alright, go get so rest. But take what I said today to heart."
"We will!" the three chid in unison.
The younger children had long since gone to bed, or so it seed. In reality, aside from Xiaobao, none of the four older siblings were asleep. Sibao was busy playing video gas, completely oblivious to the lecture his three older siblings had just received from Zhang Yuxi.
In the master bedroom, Zhang Yuxi was still talking about the driving incident while doing her skincare routine. Lin Feng, reading a book by the bed, would nod and murmur in agreent from ti to ti.
Suddenly, Zhang Yuxi paused. "Honey, have I been nagging too much lately?"
That’s so self-reflection!
Lin Feng answered diplomatically, "It’s been fine. You have been a bit chattier than usual. But it’s understandable. The kids were really out of line this ti."
Zhang Yuxi sighed. "I’m just so worried about them. I just saw the news about a car accident on my phone tonight..." As she spoke, her eyes filled with concern.
Lin Feng nodded in understanding. What parent wouldn’t feel the sa?
