Chapter 641: Chapter 641: Human Sentint
Xiao Bao quickly went out for breakfast.
Everyone was already up, but they let her sleep in. A growing child needed her rest.
"Wow, this breakfast looks great."
"Let
see... fried eggs, grilled sausages, milk... are these noodles?"
Lin Feng shook his head. "They’re rice noodles."
With so many people around, he didn’t bother making the polite, empty offer, "Would you like so?" They wouldn’t have understood it was just a courtesy anyway.
Another person ca over. "Did you make all of this?"
Lin Feng nodded.
"My goodness, you’re an incredible father. I’ve read what people say about you online. You’re amazing."
Lin Feng just smiled, his eyes never leaving Xiao Bao.
Xiao Bao had a year or two of filming experience, and perhaps she truly had a talent for it. She could perform convincingly even when acting with imaginary props, and it never looked awkward.
According to the on-set director’s requirents, this scene marked a turning point in Eugene’s character developnt. Xiao Bao had to convey the nuanced layers of this transformation. For a seven-year-old, it was a considerable test of her acting skills. This was an approach Xiao Bao herself had proposed, having thought about how to portray the role beforehand.
After more than ten NGs, the director decided they would shoot the scene in the evening.
At noon, the crew ate their usual rations. But Xiao Bao was a growing girl and couldn’t eat such unnutritious food. Lin Feng fired up his small stove again to steam so rice for her.
Once the rice was cooking, Lin Feng started preparing a spicy boiled dish. The seasonings were already prepared; he just needed to bring the broth to a boil and add the vegetables and at.
Lin Feng didn’t have a large appetite, which was perhaps a side effect of the second phase of his Purification and Marrow Cleansing.
Xiao Bao was another story. She was very active and ate a lot, and since she was still growing, he paid special attention to her diet.
Everyone’s eyes couldn’t help but drift toward Lin Feng. After spending this ti together, they all knew he was a wealthy man who kept a low profile. And his children were all exceptionally brilliant.
In their minds, they had imagined that Lin Feng’s ho must have several maids to handle everything. He would be the type to be constantly busy, his feet never touching the ground as he managed countless daily affairs. When Lin Feng first arrived with Xiao Bao, everyone assud he would stay for a day or two before leaving, after which a maid would take over Xiao Bao’s daily care. That was how it was with all the other child stars they had seen.
Unexpectedly, Lin Feng not only stayed but also didn’t have a nanny, personally handling everything himself. It was clear from his every action that he was an outstanding father who took great care of Xiao Bao. He seed to be more of a doting, hands-on dad than anything else.
Lin Feng urged Xiao Bao to eat more.
"Daddy, your cooking is so delicious!" Xiao Bao exclaid between bites.
"If you like it, then eat up."
After the al, Xiao Bao helped Lin Feng clean up, taking the bowl and chopsticks to be washed. Lin Feng had always encouraged his children to do chores to help them appreciate their parents’ hard work; it had nothing to do with whether or not they could afford a maid. In his children’s minds, no matter how rich their family was, there was no need to hire help. If you could do sothing yourself, you did it.
After she finished eating, Xiao Bao went to find the on-set director, while Lin Feng began making her an afternoon snack.
The makeup artist he got along with best ca over. "You’re seriously amazing! How can you make so much delicious food with just this tiny little stove?"
"What are you making now?"
"Pudding."
"Wow, incredible!" the makeup artist marveled, then asked quizzically, "Don’t you have maids at ho? You seem to know how to do everything."
"We don’t have any maids," Lin Feng said, stirring the small pot while keeping an eye on the fla.
This confird their earlier suspicions.
The makeup artist was even more puzzled. "Why not? Don’t you have to work?"
"There’s no need," Lin Feng replied simply. "Besides, I enjoy taking care of my children. I want to be part of their lives as they grow up."
A look of admiration crossed the makeup artist’s face. "You really are a good father!"
I don’t know if I’d call myself that, Lin Feng thought. But I do my best to give them what they want.
When it was ready, Lin Feng poured the pudding into a mold and topped it with homade fruit jam. After it cooled, it would be ready to eat. He put everything away and called Xiao Bao back for her nap.
Xiao Bao hadn’t been asleep for long when the makeup artist’s voice ca from outside. "Hey, is she asleep?"
"What’s up?" Lin Feng whispered back.
"Co on out, we need you for sothing."
Lin Feng stepped outside and saw the makeup artist grinning at him. "We’re playing cards, want to join?"
It was one of their favorite pastis on set. Since he had nothing else to do and they had invited him, he decided to play for a bit. There was a good-sized group of six people playing. The rules were a bit complicated, but they assured him it was their simplest ga. They were playing for small stakes, just for fun.
At first, Lin Feng lost almost every hand, making the others feel a little bad for him.
Lin Feng just smiled. "Let’s keep going."
After a few more rounds, he had completely figured out their strategies. From that point on, he dominated the table, winning back all his money and then so. The others didn’t complain. When Lin Feng was losing, he had never acted like a sore loser, so now that they were losing, they had to have the right attitude.
In the ti it took for Xiao Bao to finish her nap, Lin Feng won every single hand.
Everyone exclaid it was impossible. "How did you do that?"
Lin Feng smiled faintly. "I’m good with numbers."
The crowd was speechless.
Hearing Xiao Bao’s voice, Lin Feng stood up. "Here, take this money back."
They all looked at each other, embarrassed. They had lost quite a lot, after all.
"Consider it a token of my thanks for taking care of my daughter and
on set," Lin Feng added.
The makeup artist was the first to move. "In that case, we won’t be shy. Thanks!"
Lin Feng gave a slight smile. He didn’t care about the small amount of money, so he figured he might as well use it to build so goodwill. After the others split the winnings, they couldn’t stop praising his character. It was almost 10,000 yuan, which was not a small sum. To put it in perspective, the last ti they played with a superstar who earned millions a year, the man had taken every cent of the US$ 5,000 he won.
Xiao Bao woke up and needed to pee. Lin Feng took her over to a tree where the crew had dug a latrine.
Once she was fully awake again, she started looking for sothing else to do. She munched on the pudding Lin Feng had made while staring at a nearby tree. After tilting her head back to study it for a long ti, she suddenly cried out.
"Ah, Daddy! Look, is that a bird’s nest up there?"
Lin Feng looked up. "It is."
"Are there baby birds inside?" Xiao Bao asked eagerly.
"Maybe, maybe not," Lin Feng said, uncertain.
Just then, the makeup artist walked over. "There should be. You can hear a lot of birds chirping around here."
That settled it for Xiao Bao. She was sure there was a nest up there. After finishing her pudding, she circled the tree, her eyes fixed on the nest.
Hmm, I bet I can climb up there and have a look, she thought.
The tree wasn’t straight and tall; it had plenty of thick branches, and its rough bark would make for good handholds. Xiao Bao took a deep breath and started to climb.
She was on the far side of the tree, and none of the film crew noticed her. A little while later, Lin Feng checked his tent and the director’s tent but couldn’t find her.
His heart skipped a beat. The usually composed man’s face darkened instantly. "Has anyone seen Xiao Bao?"
Everyone looked around at each other, shaking their heads.
"Wasn’t she just eating her pudding a minute ago?" one person asked.
"I thought she was with you looking at the bird’s nest," said another.
"I haven’t seen her! We should hurry and look!"
With his excellent eyesight and hearing, Lin Feng knew that if a stranger had tried to take Xiao Bao, he would have noticed.
"Xiao Bao!" he called out, his voice sharp. "Where are you?"
The tree Xiao Bao was climbing was six or seven ters away from the campsite. She heard them calling for her, but she was concentrating with all her might on her ascent and couldn’t answer. She was afraid that if she lost her focus, all her effort would be for nothing.
Finally, she pulled herself onto a high branch. Just a few more branches and she would be able to see into the nest. Faintly, she thought she could hear the sound of chirping.
Suddenly, a thought struck Lin Feng. He ran toward the tree where Xiao Bao had been looking at the bird’s nest and heard her voice calling back to them from a branch high above.
