Chapter 577: Chapter 577 Mischievous Little Treasure
Lin Feng’s lunchbox, which he had bought abroad, was large, had compartnts, and offered excellent insulation. It was actually made in China, just rarely seen for sale dostically.
Lin Feng drove to the school.
In the backseat, Fan Fan, playing with a toy, asked, "Daddy, when will we get there? Are there students at the school? Any big brothers and sisters? Is it fun there? Is there a playground with a slide? Fan Fan wants to play on the slide."
This was the first ti Fan Fan, at her age, had ever been to a school.
Lin Feng hadn’t been to one in many years either. With children to care for at ho, both big and small, he simply never had the ti.
He drove to the school and pulled into the parking lot.
Fan Fan pointed to Zhang Yuxi’s car. "Daddy, look, Mommy’s car!"
Zhang Yuxi still drove the sa blue sedan. It was over ten years old but still in good shape. Aside from so repairs to the bodywork, the engine and internal components were mostly original, which always impressed Zhang Yuxi.
Lin Feng glanced at the license plate—it was indeed hers.
"You’re so clever, Fan Fan!" he said, kissing her cheek. "That’s right, this is Mommy’s car!"
Fan Fan bead. "Fan Fan is the greatest!"
Lin Feng smiled. "That’s right, Fan Fan is the greatest and the smartest!"
Carrying Fan Fan into the school, he noticed a lot had changed in the few years since he’d last visited. Construction was underway everywhere. The new structures were already taking shape, and he figured the school would turn out just as Zhang Yuxi had predicted. It would only get better and better.
Lin Feng called Zhang Yuxi.
"Honey, Fan Fan and I are here. Where are you now?"
He had to admit, he didn’t even know where his own wife’s office was.
Arriving at the principal’s office, Fan Fan was the first to dash inside. "Mommy, Fan Fan is here!"
Zhang Yuxi scooped her up. "Oh, Fan Fan is here! Are you here to bring Mommy her lunch?"
Fan Fan nodded, gave her mother a big smooch on the cheek, and then ran off to play.
The office was still the forr principal’s, with only a few slight, unnoticeable modifications. Fan Fan knelt on the sofa, watching the fish swimming in the aquarium.
Lin Feng placed the lunchbox on the table. "Where do you want to eat?"
"Right here is fine," Zhang Yuxi said, sitting down.
Lin Feng opened the container, and a look of bliss spread across Zhang Yuxi’s face. "It slls so good! Anything my husband makes always slls amazing!"
Lin Feng gave a small smile. "Go on, eat up."
Fan Fan waved to him. "Daddy, co look! What’s this?"
Lin Feng walked over. "What do we have here?"
Fan Fan tilted her head. "Daddy, can we give them nas?"
"Sure, you can na them."
"This one’s ’Red,’ this one’s ’Yellow’..."
There were more than a dozen fish in the tank, and Fan Fan managed to co up with a na for every single one.
After Zhang Yuxi finished her al, she said, "Honey, I have a eting soon, so you two will have to head back on your own, okay?"
"Alright, you focus on your work. What would you like for dinner tonight?"
"Anything is fine. I love anything you make."
It was true. Anything Lin Feng cooked, even a simple dish of stir-fried greens, tasted delicious to her.
After Zhang Yuxi left, Lin Feng departed with Fan Fan. She wanted to stroll around the school grounds, so Lin Feng followed behind, carrying the empty lunchbox.
The school wasn’t completely deserted; so students were still around.
"Wow, look over there! A handso guy and an adorable little girl!"
"Let’s go say hi!"
Two older girls walked over, crouching down to offer Fan Fan so snacks.
Fan Fan grinned. "Thank you, sisters!"
The scene reminded Lin Feng of the past when he used to bring his four older children to the school. They had all been just as adored. Fan Fan was chubby, and her smile was incredibly cute. She was the type of child everyone couldn’t help but adore.
By the ti the two girls left, Fan Fan’s clothes were stuffed with snacks.
"Daddy, school is so nice!"
Lin Feng burst out laughing. "Do you even know what school is for?"
Fan Fan shook her head. Lin Feng knew his daughter wasn’t fond of studying. "You’ll find out soday," he said.
After leaving the school, the two of them went to the supermarket to buy ingredients for dinner. A handso father with his adorable daughter, they were the center of attention wherever they went.
Fan Fan had grown accustod to the attention. She sat in the shopping cart, having Lin Feng push her to the seafood section. Why? To see the fish!
Lin Feng bought a sea bass for her and another for the quads to make as a braised fish dish.
"Crabs! Daddy, can we buy crabs, please?"
Lin Feng ended up buying so crabs to take ho.
Fan Fan swung her little legs, her eyes glued to the bag of crabs Lin Feng was carrying. Ever since he’d bought them, the little girl had stopped fussing, her attention completely captivated.
Lin Feng then headed to the fruit and vegetable section, bought a few things, and they headed ho.
"Daddy, can I hold the crab?"
"No, not in the car. You can hold it when we get ho."
And so, the very first thing Fan Fan did upon getting out of the car was to carry the bag of crabs. They had bought ten in total. Knowing that Fan Fan wanted to play, Lin Feng took out one of the crabs for her as soon as they got ho.
Fan Fan carried the single crab into the house. Looking at it, wrapped in multiple layers of a plastic bag, the little girl asked, "Daddy, can I let it out?"
"Sure, but you mustn’t touch it with your hands, okay? It could pinch you and you’d get hurt."
"Okay!"
The crab for Fan Fan was a bit on the small side. After Lin Feng let it out for her, he started to prep the other ingredients. As for where the other children were, he had no idea.
"Fan Fan, could you call your brothers and sisters and see where they are?"
Fan Fan called the third sibling, but there was no answer. Then she called the fourth. The fourth and second siblings had gone out skateboarding and would be back soon. When they left, the others had been planning to take a nap.
Lin Feng had her hang up. "Fan Fan, let’s just play here in the living room and let your brothers and sisters rest."
Although Fan Fan agreed readily enough, she couldn’t contain her excitent. She was eager to show the crab to her siblings. She had even given it what she considered a very beautiful na: Stone.
She walked around, calling its na. "Stone... Stone..."
When she saw the crab moving in her direction, Fan Fan mistakenly believed it could understand her. Thrilled by this thought, she rushed to tell her father.
"Daddy, Daddy! Stone can understand what I’m saying!"
"Stone?"
Fan Fan had been very keen on naming things lately, insisting on giving everything an official na. She ca up with all sorts of bizarre nas.
"The crab!" she clarified.
Lin Feng understood. "And what makes you think it can understand you?"
"Because when I call it, it follows !"
"Oh," Lin Feng said, playing along. "Wow, Stone must be really smart then. You go ahead and play; Daddy will be done over here in a bit!"
Fan Fan watched Stone, determined to show it to her brothers and sisters. Rembering her father’s warning, she looked around and found a box.
"Stone, get in."
The crab sidestepped away.
Fan Fan crouched on the floor, coaxing gently, "Get in, please. I’ll take you upstairs to find your brothers and sisters!"
Stone sidestepped away again.
Fan Fan blocked its path with the box. But the crab only knew how to walk sideways. After a great deal of effort, she finally managed to corral it into the box. Watching the crab scuttling around inside, Fan Fan went pattering up the stairs.
"Be good now, don’t climb out, okay?" she cooed.
As if a crab could understand her words. Of course, it couldn’t.
Sure enough, it managed to clamber out of the box.
Frightened, Fan Fan instinctively reached out with her hand to try and put it back. But that was a big mistake.
With a sharp SNAP, the crab’s pincer clamped down on her finger.
For a mont, Fan Fan was completely stunned. The next second, a sharp pain shot through her, and she burst into tears with a loud wail.
