Cullen finished speaking and fixed his gaze on her with a questioning look. "I thought you were occupied with your artwork. What brings you here?"

She offered a diplomatic smile. "I wanted to ensure you felt properly welcod in our ho."

"Handle your affairs. I prefer to watch the ga without interruption."

Despite his dismissal, she remained where she stood.

When Felix and Neal voiced their admiration for Niall's performance, the Mack and Crystal families practically glowed with satisfaction. Their expressions radiated unmistakable pride as they absorbed every complint.

The gathered crowd included many who recognized Niall's reputation. Watching her receive such praise from influential figures like Neal and Felix stirred a potent mixture of admiration and resentnt among the observers.

Niall possessed everything others coveted: striking beauty, impressive academic achievents, and now demonstrated chess prowess that had captured the attention of two of the most powerful n in the room. Her romantic connection with Cullen only amplified the Mack and Crystal families' elevated social standing.

Every parent present couldn't help but imagine having such an accomplished daughter.

The envy was palpable as guests approached the elder Crystal and Mack with barely concealed longing. "Your daughter and granddaughter are absolutely remarkable."

"Without question," others chid in, their voices tinged with desperate curiosity. "What thods did you use to cultivate such extraordinary talent? Mrs. Crystal, surely among friends you could offer so guidance?"

Within monts, several of the city's most influential won had ford a tight circle around the Crystal and Mack matriarchs, hanging on their every word.

The continuous stream of praise directed toward Niall filled Aurora with swelling satisfaction. She cast a deliberate glance toward Veronica, her lips curving into a knowing smile as she leaned closer to Dora. "The difference between them couldn't be more obvious, don't you think?"

Dora's face hardened into sharp lines, the comparison between her daughter and Veronica clearly striking a nerve that left her visibly agitated.

Sophia and Isaac caught Aurora's cutting observation, their attention imdiately shifting to study Veronica with fresh scrutiny. The contrast was undeniable—Niall commanded the room while Veronica remained in the shadows.

Their gazes returned to Niall with renewed warmth and unmistakable affection lighting their features.

At that mont, Niall rose gracefully from her seat. She turned toward Felix with genuine respect and said, "I apologize for the defeat."

Felix's expression remained generous and encouraging. "Victory isn't everything. Your performance was exceptional. Few possess the unique combination of intellectual depth and strategic chess ability that you've demonstrated. Not everyone can match the Dennis family's young master, naturally."

Niall's smile brightened under his praise. "Your words are far too generous, Mr. Shane Senior."

"Would you be interested in another round?" Felix inquired.

She declined with elegant modesty. "One ga satisfies completely. Others should have the opportunity to participate."

Felix surveyed the assembled guests with expectant eyes. "Is there anyone else who wishes to compete?"

The room fell into uncomfortable silence, no one willing to risk public failure after witnessing the high level of play.

Marco's eyes found Cullen, catching him turning a chess piece between his fingers while maintaining intense eye contact.

Into this charged atmosphere, Veronica stepped forward with deliberate purpose. Her voice carried clearly as she addressed Cullen directly. "Would you accept a match against ?"

Cullen's hand stilled on the chess piece, his stare intensifying as he processed her unexpected challenge.

Marco's head snapped toward Veronica, his expression registering complete shock at her bold move. The idea that she would publicly challenge Cullen under these circumstances seed impossible.

The surprise rippled beyond Marco to encompass the entire Crystal and Mack families. Niall's composure cracked slightly, her eyes widening with genuine astonishnt. She had been certain that Veronica lacked the confidence to make such a public gesture, especially given her typically reserved nature.

Yet here she stood, having done exactly that. The collective frowns on the Mack and Crystal faces deepened into expressions of clear disapproval.

Huxley's voice carried a note of regret as he muttered under his breath, "I should have spoken with her beforehand if I had anticipated this developnt."
