Tang Chuxia saw Dangdang lying on the bed, still with so bloodstains on her body, as she had fallen into a coma, with the children crying beside her.

"What’s going on?"

Tang Chuxia thought sothing had happened to Dangdang, and quickly pushed aside the children to reach her bedside, stretching out her hand to feel for Dangdang’s breath beneath her nose!

But her wrist was grabbed by Dangdang.

"I’m not dead!"

Dangdang gave a bitter smile repeatedly, and it was only then that Tang Chuxia breathed a sigh of relief, truly scared to death.

She had no idea that upon seeing Dangdang lying there covered in blood, Tang Chuxia really thought she had died.

"So what is this about? Why are you covered in blood, lying here, with all the children crying?"

Tang Chuxia was so angry she wanted to hit soone.

Dangdang, embarrassed, sat up and asked the children to go out and play. She then whispered in an embarrassed tone, "There was a reason for this!"

Tang Chuxia just stared at her.

If she didn’t give a clear explanation, Tang Chuxia was probably going to make her cry.

Fortunately, she knew this and imdiately declared, "Isn’t there a movie coming to our orphanage for shooting?"

Dangdang saw both Tang Chuxia and Gu Nanzhi’s faces looking displeased and could only continue her explanation nervously, "I was thinking of earning a little extra money to buy snacks for the children, so I agreed to act in a scene for the movie. We were just rehearsing!"

Tang Chuxia: ...

Gu Nanzhi couldn’t help but burst out laughing.

Tang Chuxia also had a face full of speechlessness.

Only Dangdang stood there rubbing her hands awkwardly, not having expected Tang Chuxia and Gu Nanzhi to arrive at such a ti, let alone for them to witness this scene.

Dangdang had just heard Tang Chuxia bump into the bed, and guessed her leg must be bruised by now, but she didn’t dare ask, afraid of being scolded by Tang Chuxia.

"So, how co you’re here?"

Dangdang tried to change the subject, but was interrupted by Gu Nanzhi, "If we hadn’t co, how would we have known that you are working so hard to earn snack money!"

Who in their right mind acts like a dead person!

And the key was that she made it look quite convincing.

It was frightening!

Dangdang held Tang Chuxia’s hand, trying to keep her from getting angry. Tang Chuxia wasn’t really angry, just terrified.

Watching her appear so indifferent to life and death, seeming as if she could take or leave anyone, but in reality, she was very afraid of being apart. So, when her grandfather’s health deteriorated and he was on the verge of death, she had ruined her own body, which was hard-earned and recovered, to save soone else once again.

With Tang Chuxia, she could joke, rage, and casually discuss life and death. But she couldn’t face it head-on. She couldn’t turn a blind eye or accept it calmly; it was really out of fear that she pretended to not care.

So in just the scene before, Tang Chuxia’s heart was especially frantic, not even considering why Dangdang, covered in blood, lay there while the children just cried instead of going for help.

Sothing looked wrong, but she had subconsciously ignored it, filled only with unease and fear.

Therefore, when she saw that Dangdang was alright, her initial reaction was simply a sigh of relief instinctively, not the slightest bit angry. But listening to Dangdang’s explanation and seeing her cautious deanor, she finally realized she should be angry.

But pretense could only last for so long.

"Do you want to buy so snacks for the kids? To the point where you need to fake death to make money?"

Tang Chuxia was the first to crack and took the initiative to ask, with Gu Nanzhi stretching her neck to listen in.

"The weather’s been terribly hot—I was thinking of getting so popsicles for the kids!"

The orphanage provided the bare essentials for food and clothing, adhering to minimal standards, simply because the number of children being brought in was increasing. They had to ensure there was enough to eat above all else and couldn’t fully attend to other needs.

Since Dangdang started working at the orphanage, she first sought tasks to busy herself with, but over ti, she grew attached to the kids. Seeing them gaze longingly at other children eating popsicles outside, she couldn’t help but feel upset.

But her salary wasn’t much, and sotis she had to spend it on treatnts for children with health issues. She couldn’t afford to waste money frivolously, let alone fulfill the children’s simple wishes.

After Tang Chuxia and Gu Nanzhi listened to Dangdang’s explanation, their hearts were heavy with discomfort.

They had thought setting up an orphanage would give the children a place to shelter, but they forgot that children are human too, and they also have monts when they can’t resist a craving.

Tang Chuxia and Gu Nanzhi both felt for these kids. Compared to the poverty of adults, the children’s desires were more straightforward—they just wanted a bit of snack.

"Let’s buy them! I’ll go buy them!"

Gu Nanzhi imdiately called out for the children to follow her to buy popsicles, but the kids didn’t rush over. Instead, they looked towards Dangdang.

Dangdang gave them a warmly encouraging smile and said, "Go on, that’s your Sister Zhizhi."

The children then followed Gu Nanzhi out.

Tang Chuxia told Dangdang to change out of her bloody clothes first, as they were quite frightening to look at.

"It’s just chicken blood, nothing serious!"

But it reeked.

Tang Chuxia couldn’t help but admire Dangdang—who had once been so vain. Ever since she ca to the orphanage, she had really done all sorts of work. Now, to make money, she was daring enough to take on any job.

It left people at a loss for words.

Tang Chuxia bluntly comnted, "Doesn’t chicken blood stink in this heat?"

That’s when Dangdang finally changed her clothes and soaked them in a basin.

"Did you guys co to watch a movie being shot?"

Dangdang didn’t believe Tang Chuxia would bring Gu Nanzhi over for an inspection. Given Tang Chuxia’s personality, if she trusted soone, she truly entrusted them with full confidence and wouldn’t doubt Dangdang at all.

Dangdang washed her clothes while watching Tang Chuxia squatting nearby, doodling on the ground with a stick.

"Not really, I initially ca to check on my future sister-in-law. But I was shocked by the situation here and have lost the mood for it."

Tang Chuxia looked at Dangdang, "How have you been lately? Have you figured it out? Still considering divorce?"

Tang Chuxia knew Dangdang’s personality well—if she made up her mind, not even ten bulls could pull her back.

"I did think about getting a divorce. But now, I’ve realized whether I divorce or not doesn’t matter. Wu Haipeng won’t bother with his family’s issues anymore. To reassure , he talked with his parents. He warned them that if his mother caused any trouble again, he would disown her and send her to jail!"

The deeds of Mrs. Wu fell into the sort of category that normally went unexamined by both the public and officials. If Wu Haipeng got really tough on his mother, she might actually end up in prison.

The old lady was still alive and needed care, and Mrs. Wu had retired, staying at ho to take care of her mother-in-law as a way of making ands. As for troubling her daughter-in-law, Wu Haipeng stopped that problem in its tracks.

Dangdang explained to Tang Chuxia, "I figured, marrying anyone, you can’t escape in-law relationships. Since Wu Haipeng is putting in the effort, I’ve decided to observe a while longer!"
