Jiang Nuan was on the bus going back when she received a call from soone.
"Have you guys set off?"
At that mont, Jiang Nuan was leaning her head against the window, half-asleep. Hearing the voice, she opened her eyes to look outside and lowered her voice, saying, "Mm, we’ve left Hechuan County and reached Jiangcheng."
Once the bus crossed Jiangcheng, it would take less than three hours to reach Capital City. Considering the ti, she would probably arrive in the evening.
Fu Yi was standing at the entrance of the lounge just after returning, holding his phone. Yi Hengjian saw his gentle expression, eyelids drooping while making the call, and teased with a smile, "Calling your wife? Young love, how sweet."
Under the inquisitive gaze of many, Fu Yi simply nodded and moved aside with his phone to make the call.
"What’s up? Are you still busy?"
Jiang Nuan propped up her head and yawned, hearing the noise from the other end.
"How about you get busy first? Important matters take precedence."
"You think I’m slacking off?" There was faint laughter on the other end.
Jiang Nuan’s heart inexplicably skipped a beat, her drowsiness nearly gone, and she nervously refuted, "I didn’t think that at all."
He was quick to ease, "I was just joking, you won’t be mad at that."
Jiang Nuan’s heart was stirred into a flurry by his casual words, and she angrily furrowed her brow, "I’m not that petty."
"Mm."
Jiang Nuan seed to hear a soft chuckle from him.
In an instant, she tightened her grip on the phone, her mood becoming more agitated.
"Did you call for sothing?"
Fu Yi, "Not really, just got done with work and wanted to ask if you had left yet. If not, we might still et, and I could see you off."
But by the ti he called, they had already been on their way for quite so ti. Jiang Nuan discreetly read the rest of his unspoken words in her mind.
"We promptly set off at 2:30 PM, we’ve been on the road for an hour."
"I know, you just told , the bus has reached Jiangcheng."
Jiang Nuan fell silent for a mont, unsure how to respond. This call seed rather pointless—he didn’t have anything to say, yet wasn’t hanging up, giving it the feel of a couple’s lengthy phone chat. Jiang Nuan held the phone, her eyelashes slightly lowered, covering her eyes as she said, "If there’s nothing else, I’ll hang up now."
"Nuannuan."
Just as she was about to hang up, a low male voice suddenly ca from the other end.
"Mm?" Jiang Nuan unconsciously paused her movent, "What is it?"
"Don’t forget what you promised ."
Jiang Nuan was dumbstruck.
Sothing she promised?
Her brain slowly turned before she rembered what he was talking about.
She had only agreed to one thing, their half-year pact.
Jiang Nuan let out a breath, holding the phone, "Don’t worry, if I promised you, I won’t forget."
"You sound like I’m asking you to walk the plank." Fu Yi laughed before reminding, "Don’t stay in a hotel when you get back. You have a place in Capital City, and I’ve told Grandma you’ll be back today. She will call you later, and you should tell her when you’ll arrive, so she can pick you up."
"I..."
Jiang Nuan found it troubleso and didn’t want to trouble an elderly person. Before she could refuse, her words were interrupted, "Don’t be in a rush to refuse, it wasn’t my idea. She’s been hesitant to call you so as not to disturb you but isn’t afraid to disturb , calling several tis a day to ask about you. Recently, she heard your dical team is coming back and insisted on picking you up. I didn’t originally want to disclose your return ti to her, but she called Mayor Yi and found out the ti."
At the end of the day, he claid it had nothing to do with him, maintaining his innocence. Jiang Nuan was exasperated, not easily duped, "Do you dare say you didn’t play a part in this?"
