Chen Hai suddenly raised his head, but when he t those emotionless eyes, his body trembled slightly, and he swallowed back the words he was about to say.
"...I won’t play tricks, please trust ."
Six kiloters from Big Sea Village, there’s another small, secluded village called Changning Village. Like Big Sea Village, Changning Village is mostly populated by elderly people and children left behind, as almost all the young people have gone out to work and earn money. So, once night falls, you rarely see anyone out walking around the village. As long as there’s no major commotion, neighbors several dozen ters away would hardly notice anything.
Chen Hai had an uncle in Changning Village, who had passed away years ago, leaving behind a few tiled houses and a courtyard. Since his uncle didn’t have any children, Chen Hai, being the closest blood relative, was implicitly regarded by the villagers as the heir to the property.
He had been living in Big Sea Village for years and rarely ca to this side. The courtyard was ssy, left unattended.
Upon arriving, Chen Hai swiftly tidied up the place, took a deep breath, and nervously waited for soone to show up.
Seven o’clock ca in a blink.
But he still didn’t see the person he had agreed would co.
Chen Hai was starting to lose his composure. He turned to Rong Yan, asking if they should call Chu Feng again to urge him. Rong Yan stopped him, telling him to stay patient and wait a bit longer.
Wait they did, and soon it was almost eight o’clock.
Chen Hai paced back and forth in the courtyard, occasionally stepping outside to take a look. Just as he began to think the other party might be standing him up, a subdued Land Rover carefully made its way onto the dirt road.
The Land Rover appeared outwardly no different than a typical urban SUV, but the price was unmistakably in a league of its own.
They’re here!
Chen Hai’s eyes lit up. He glanced back at the courtyard before heading out to greet them.
Five minutes later, the Land Rover stopped at the entrance to the courtyard. Three towering n exited the vehicle first and moved to open the car door.
Soon after, Chu Feng stepped out from the back seat. Dressed in a traditional Chinese suit, he was in his forties, leaning on a gemstone-encrusted cane. He carried himself with a superficial flair of respectability.
Beside him, the driver also got out. Towering close to two ters, with a build like a steel fortress, his re presence imdiately exuded dominance.
Pestered by the bumpy ride all the way from Capital City, Chu Feng was already in a foul mood. Upon seeing Chen Hai, he imdiately said, "I’m here. Where’s the woman?"
Chen Hai was sweating coldly in his palms, but he maintained a facade of composure, stepping aside, "Inside."
"We agreed you’d handle this matter for , and I’d find a kidney for your sister. Now you’re making co over in person, saying you’re afraid I won’t keep my word afterward. Heh. I’m here now, and you believe this guarantees I’ll honor our agreent later?" Chu Feng spoke impatiently, striding into the courtyard with his bodyguards in tow.
Chen Hai, having prepared his response in advance, replied in a low voice, "I couldn’t be at ease unless the boss ca, so we can trade face-to-face."
"Face-to-face trade?" Chu Feng found it amusing. "How do you expect to trade with you face-to-face? Should I hand the kidney over to you directly?"
"Even if I brought it, could you instantly get a doctor to perform the surgery on your sister?"
These rural folks are so ridiculous.
Chen Hai silently endured his ridicule and led him into the courtyard.
The courtyard was small enough to take in at a glance. Upon entering, Chu Feng’s expression turned grim. He frowned, clearly displeased. "Where’s the person?"
"Hmm?"
Seeing Chen Hai feign ignorance, Chu Feng’s brow tightened with the anger of soone used to power, "Didn’t you say you’ve captured the woman? I’ve co all the way here. Where is she?"
Cold sweat dripped from Chen Hai’s hands as his eyes darted around. His evasive behavior instantly raised Chu Feng’s suspicions that sothing wasn’t right.
