Chapter 1101: Chapter 1101: Shengxiao Has Good Taste
“The point is you,” said Lin Teng, “I understand him, but I don’t understand you. I’m not sure if you’re ready. If you’re not and he’s fighting the whole world for you, and then you cause trouble behind his back, crumbling under the pressure, it would be a huge blow to Shengxiao. I can’t accept that happening, which is why I ca to see you today for a chat.”
Rong Yan smiled, her fair face betraying no emotion. “What’s the outco of our chat?”
Lin Teng burst into laughter. “Not bad, the girl’s got so backbone. She’s not one to run away in face of battle. Shengxiao has a good eye; I thought he was into those soft, weepy little girls.”
Having a tough personality himself, he liked won who were soft on the outside but tough on the inside. Su Yi seed gentle as water, but in reality, she was far more resilient than the average woman. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have been able to tolerate the pain of a long-distance relationship.
He admired strong and independent won, yet ironically, many young won of distinction in Capital City were brought up to be soft and weak. Even his only daughter was like that, which was one of the regrets of his life.
But there was nothing he could do about it. Wanwan had been frail since birth, and it was a miracle she survived at all. He couldn’t bear to put his only flesh and blood through the grueling training he reserved for his subordinates. And since she was always sickly and had poor immunity, he was extra careful with her, afraid of her getting hurt. Seeing Rong Yan, he saw the kind of daughter he wanted—one who could appear delicate on the outside but possess inner strength.
Possibly because he had co to see Rong Yan as Lin Wan, Lin Teng’s gaze softened, and he said gently, “But still, little girl, I’d remind you to be ntally prepared.”
After finishing his coffee, Lin Teng left, not forgetting to pay the bill before he went.
Rong Yan finished her last sip of coffee, grabbed her phone from the side, and checked the ti. It was after 2 pm; ti to head back to the office.
When Ms. Dina’s call ca through, she was using her phone to look up news about the Chu Family. Unfortunately, her search yielded nothing substantial. Typing “Chu” into the search engine brought up mostly news about the Oscar-winning Actress Chu Xi.
The Chu Family, Chu Xi…
Rong Yan didn’t have a clear concept of the Chu Family and wasn’t sure what kind of domineering protectionism Lin Teng referred to, but the arrival of Chu Xi was too coincidental, sharing the surna Chu, making Rong Yan cautious.
As she walked inside, she answered Ms. Dina’s call, “Hello, Ms. Dina, good afternoon.”
“Pfft, I thought you were going to keep playing your slick and smooth-talking act with ,” ca the unmistakably Hanks Dina’s voice from the phone.
Rong Yan relaxed her brows, tucking away her worries to fully engage in the conversation, “Before, I was just playing a little trick on you to get your attention. Now that we’re going to cooperate, of course, I want to show the utmost sincerity.”
Ms. Dina was silent for a mont, then suddenly spoke, “I’m calling about that matter.”
An uneasy feeling welled up in Rong Yan’s heart, but she wasn’t soone easily swayed by emotions. Despite sensing sothing bad, she didn’t interrupt Ms. Dina, waiting respectfully for her to finish speaking.
“We might not be able to cooperate after all.”
Despite being ntally prepared, Rong Yan couldn’t help but ask, “May I ask why?”
