Chapter 91: Chapter Ninety one: Discharge tension

"Your grandma and I already ate," Uncle added, clearly sensing my hesitation. "Alicia, you should eat."

"I already had breakfast..."

"Then have a little more," Alexander said.

I gave him a flat look—but still opened the containers and took a few bites.

"Nana wants to go ho," I explained.

Nana imdiately cut in, clearly worried Alexander might side with Uncle. "Alexander, don’t worry about it. I know my own body. It’s not as serious as you think. Staying here is uncomfortable—they keep restricting everything."

Alexander paused, his gaze lowering slightly as he considered her words.

Then he said, "Nana, your health isn’t sothing to take lightly. How about this—I’ll check with Dr. Harrison. If he agrees, we’ll arrange for you to go ho."

Nana hesitated.

She clearly wasn’t confident the doctor would agree—but if he didn’t, she wouldn’t be able to argue anymore.

After a mont, she waved her hand dismissively. "Fine. Go ahead."

Third person POV

Alexander stepped out of the room and headed straight for Dr. Harrison’s office.

He understood the situation all too well. While everyone wanted the Chairwoman to remain in the hospital for proper treatnt, he also knew that being confined there day after day would only make her feel trapped—and perhaps even worsen her condition.

Dr. Harrison spoke candidly, his tone calm but firm.

"To be honest, the Chairwoman’s condition can’t be reversed at this stage. It may be better to respect her wishes and let her recover at ho. A positive state of mind can make a significant difference."

He paused briefly before continuing,

"I’ll prepare a list of necessary dications and equipnt. My assistant can visit your ho daily to monitor her condition."

Alexander gave a slight nod. "Alright. Thank you, Dr. Harrison."

After leaving the office, he made his way back toward the ward.

As he turned the corner, two doctors’ voices drifted into his ears.

"Ex-husband? So they were really married?" one of them asked, clearly surprised.

"It looks that way," the other replied knowingly. "Probably divorced not long ago."

Alexander’s steps slowed.

Chairwoman Blackwood was a major shareholder of St. Victoria dical Center, and with her current hospitalization, coupled with Alexander Blackwood—the CEO of Blackwood Dominion Enterprises—frequently appearing at the hospital, it was only natural that rumors would spread among the staff.

Recently, the situation had intensified. Reporters had been lingering outside the hospital, and so had even attempted to sneak into the VIP ward. The hospital had already issued internal notices, instructing staff and security to handle the matter strictly.

The doctor on the right lowered his voice slightly, though the curiosity in his tone remained.

"I heard the woman involved is the one who’s been visiting the Chairwoman these past few days..."

He hesitated for a mont.

A few days ago, he had treated Alicia—and she had made one thing very clear: her ex-husband must not find out about her pregnancy.

At the ti, he had assud her ex-husband must be irresponsible, perhaps even cruel.

He hadn’t expected it to be Alexander.

The recent scandal involving a certain actress had already spread across the news. From what people were saying, she was the real third party—likely the reason behind Alexander and Alicia’s divorce.

"...so she’s the mistress everyone’s been talking about," he finished in a low voice.

"How do you know they were married?" the first doctor pressed.

The doctor on the right lowered his voice.

"Miss Alicia ntioned it herself... the day she was admitted."

He paused briefly, as if recalling sothing.

"She made one thing very clear—there was soone who mustn’t be inford..."He suddenly noticed soone approaching.

His expression changed instantly.

"CEO Blackwood," he greeted, straightening up at once.

"CEO Blackwood," the other doctor echoed, his voice noticeably more cautious.

Alexander gave the two doctors a slight nod and walked past them.

After a few steps, he slowed... then paused briefly.

For a mont, the conversation he had just overheard echoed in his mind.

Then, as if nothing had happened, he continued down the corridor.

Alicia’s POV

Back in the ward, Roseline asked impatiently,

"What did Dr. Harrison say?"

Uncle and I both turned to look at Alexander.

"Dr. Harrison said Grandma can be discharged and continue resting at ho," he replied calmly.

The mont Nana heard that, her confidence returned instantly. She shot Uncle and

a triumphant look.

"See? I told you there’s nothing wrong with . I’m perfectly fine! You two were just overreacting."

Uncle and I exchanged a helpless glance.

"Does that an I can go ho now?" Nana asked eagerly.

Alexander shook his head slightly. "Not yet. I still need to have my staff prepare the dications and equipnt Dr. Harrison listed before you can be discharged."

Nana’s face fell. "How long will that take?"

"Don’t worry, Nana. Just a day or two. You’ll have to stay here a little longer."

"Well... if that’s the case..." she muttered, pouting, though she didn’t argue further.

Still, the thought of going ho soon clearly lifted her spirits. She waved her hand dismissively at us.

"You two don’t need to stay here. Go on and do whatever you need to do."

Alexander didn’t respond. Instead, his gaze shifted to .

I stood up. "Uncle, Nana, I’ll head out now. I’ll co see you tomorrow."

"Alright," Uncle replied.

I walked out of the room, and Alexander followed shortly after. We stepped into the hallway together, side by side.

"I heard from Jim that you’re planning to leave the hospital as well?" he asked.

"Yeah."

"How are your eyes now? Still blurry?"

"They’re almost fully recovered. I had another checkup this morning. I’m fine."

Alexander nodded. "Where are you headed? I can give you a ride."

"Straight to the company."

"You’re not going to rest for a few more days?"

"I’ve already taken enough ti off."

??clat Beauty is entering a critical growth phase, and work in the departnt has been piling up. My phone hasn’t stopped buzzing these past few days.

We reached the parking garage together.

Today, Alexander drove himself to the hospital.

I opened the passenger door, slid into the seat, and fastened my seatbelt.

He settled into the driver’s seat—but didn’t start the car right away.

Instead, he lifted a hand to loosen his collar, his movents unhurried.

Then, almost casually, he asked,

"Did you tell the doctor I’m your ex-husband?"

My heart skipped.

For a split second, my mind went blank.

Could it be... that he already knew?

I turned to look at him, trying to keep my expression steady. My hands, which had been resting on my lap, instinctively moved toward my stomach before curling tightly into a fist.

No.

I had to take control of this.

"What’s wrong?" I said coolly. "Are you afraid people will find out that Lilian was the one who caused our divorce?"

"Alicia, that’s not what I ant."

"Then what did you an?" I raised an eyebrow, eting his gaze.

Alexander pressed his lips together, his expression tightening slightly.

"I’m not blaming you."

A faint scoff escaped .

" what else was I supposed to say?" I replied lightly, as if it didn’t matter. "When I had the accident, I told them we were already heading for a divorce anyway."

A brief pause.

"We practically were."

"..."

He didn’t respond.

Instead, he started the car.

The engine ca to life, filling the silence between us as we pulled out of the parking space.

I stole a glance at his profile.

Calm. Composed. Unreadable.

Only then did I quietly let out a breath I hadn’t realized I was holding.

He probably still didn’t know.
