Chapter 50: Chapter fifty: jealousy rumours
"We’ll go ahead then," Alexander said calmly as he linked his arm with mine.
But the mont we stepped out of the room, I gently removed my hand from his arm.
He glanced at , clearly puzzled.
"The guests have started arriving," I explained quickly. "We don’t want to give them the wrong impression, right?"
He studied
for a mont before nodding slightly and continuing to walk.
Strange, isn’t it?
I couldn’t even hold my own husband’s arm in public.
All because he didn’t want our marriage to beco public.
But what did it matter anymore?
Soon, we would be divorced.
A faint, bitter smile appeared on my lips at the thought.
Third Person POV
Amidst the lively chatter and elegant laughter filling the party, two won stood quietly in a corner, their eyes fixed on a particular figure.
"Why is Alicia always so close to Alexander and the matriarch of the Blackwood family?" the tall, slender woman muttered, her gaze sharp as it lingered on Alicia, who was seated beside Roseline, engaged in a calm conversation.
The short-haired woman beside her scoffed. "I heard she cos from a small, insignificant family. Apparently, her father word his way into Grandma Roseline’s good graces, and that’s how she got in. Who knows? Maybe her shabby father planned everything from the start."
"Exactly!" the taller woman agreed without hesitation. "Grandma Roseline must be getting senile to allow soone like her to taint our family."
Their words dripped with disdain, as though Alicia had personally wronged them.
"She never leaves Grandma Roseline’s side," the tall woman continued bitterly. "Earlier, when she was welcoming guests at the entrance with Alexander, I tried to sit next to Grandma—but she told
that seat belonged to Alicia. I had to stand up in front of everyone. It was humiliating."
"Who knows what tricks she’s using on that family?" the other woman added with a sneer."and of all people she had to be the one to accompany the Blackwood Dynasty heir to welco guest"
And so, their hushed conversation continued, laced with jealousy and malice.
Alicia’s POV
We had been welcoming guests for what felt like hours, and my feet were beginning to ache unbearably. Alexander was right—about changing my shoes.
Thinking of him, I suddenly realized he was no longer beside .
Where did he go?
Just monts ago, we had all been seated together at the table.
"Alicia, where is Alexander?" Grandma Roseline’s voice broke through my thoughts.
"I’m not sure, Nana," i replied gently. "I think he stepped away to take an important call. I’m sure he’ll be back soon."
At least, i hoped so.
Everything felt so peaceful tonight—almost like a dream. There were no argunts, no tension... no Lilian. Just a warm, lively family gathering.
"That boy is always working," Aunt Rose sighed, shaking her head.
"You should go check on him, Alicia," Uncle Steve suggested.
I nodded and stood up.
I moved through the crowd, scanning the room, searching for Alexander—but he was nowhere to be found. After a while, exhaustion crept in, and i gave up.
My eyes landed on a table filled with chilled drinks.
Since moving into the Blackwood family, these grand celebrations had beco a regular occurrence, yet I still couldn’t quite fit in. I always felt like an outsider. Alexander’s friends kept their distance, and i had no one to talk to.
Usually, I would distract myself with food.
But today seeing nana so happy I couldn’t even leave her side for a mont.so when I saw the chilled drink I decided to take my chance.
So, I reached for a glass of juice and poured myself a drink. Just as i was about to take a sip, a warm hand gently held mine.
Startled, I turned—only to et Alexander’s concerned gaze.
