Chapter 37: Chapter thirty seven: recalling tragedies

Once confird, the police imdiately began searching for the suspect.

After the student was arrested, the police inford , and Maria went to the station to handle the matter.

At first, the student denied sending the package.

But being young and inexperienced, she was quickly exposed by the experienced officers and eventually confessed.

She admitted she did it because she was a die-hard fan of Isabella and couldn’t stand seeing her "bullied" under my managent.

I asked a lawyer from the company’s legal departnt to handle the matter.

After Maria returned from the police station, I asked,

"Did she say how she found out where I live?"

"It seems her father works as a cleaner in this neighborhood."

"Inform the security company and have him reassigned," I said.

Having him remain here could beco a potential safety risk.

"Alright. I’ll talk to the security company."

After Maria left, I sat alone in the quiet room.

A chilling thought suddenly crossed my mind.

What if the package had contained sothing far more dangerous?

Sothing that could hurt ...

Or my baby?

Was this the price I had to pay for loving Alexander?

I sat there in a daze,At tis like this, when I felt unbearably lonely, the only person I could think about was my dad. I never really knew my mom, but I knew how much she loved us.

My dad was a journalist. We once had a happy family. We weren’t rich, but we were content. Every morning, he would drop

off at school before heading to work, and whenever I returned ho, my mom would be in the kitchen cooking our favorite als.

When I was five, my mom beca seriously ill and eventually passed away. My dad and I grieved deeply, but with ti we learned to live with just the two of us.

Even though my dad Johann Sinclair, was only a local journalist, he was well known for his investigations and for exposing corruption in Valeridge City. One day he had the opportunity to interview Rosaline Blackwood and her husband, Sebastian Blackwood. After that interview, they sohow ford a close bond. Sotis my dad would even bring

along when he visited them.

Grandpa Sebastian was very kind to us. He treated my father like a son, especially since most of his own children rarely visited, except for Alexander’s father, who was the eldest.

A few years later, Alexander’s parents died in a car accident. It was a devastating blow to the Blackwood family. Not long after, Grandpa Sebastian’s health worsened and he passed away when I was thirteen.

Grandma Rosaline was deeply traumatized and shut herself away from everyone. Her other children ca to see her, but their relationship with her wasn’t strong, so they eventually left. My dad was the one who stayed by her side and helped her slowly open up again. With no one else to lead the company, she eventually stepped in despite her age. She buried herself in work, and my dad beca one of the few people she truly trusted.

Then, when I was seventeen, the accident happened.

My dad was driving

to the library on his way to work when another car suddenly crashed into us. In that mont, my dad used his body to shield .

He died instantly.

The other driver escaped, and the car wasn’t registered. Grandma ordered a thorough investigation, but nothing was ever found. The only lead was that my dad had been investigating several governnt officials and companies involved in corruption.

Eventually, the investigation was abandoned due to lack of progress.

That was when Grandma took

in, and over ti we found comfort in each other.

When I first moved into the Blackwood mansion, I never imagined that one day I would beco Alexander’s wife.

Yet here we are—two years into a marriage that is now about to end in divorce. And the only thing I crave for is that simple life full of love and caring.
